Review: Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #3) by Rick Riordan
The Titan's Curse - Rick Riordan

Goodreads summary:

IT'S NOT EVERYDAY YOU FIND YOURSELF IN COMBAT WITH A HALF-LION, HALF-HUMAN.

But when you're the son of a Greek god, it happens. And now my friend Annabeth is missing, a goddess is in chains and only five half-blood heroes can join the quest to defeat the doomsday monster.

Oh and guess what. The Oracle has predicted that not all of us will survive...

My opinion:

I really liked this book (for some reason, I don't know why) more than the first two books in this series and I appreciate it more and more. The story is just so complex, because there are so many storylines and mythology background that is linked with each other. I also love the friendship moral in this one (even though this also happens in the first two books). I'm glad I picked it up after all.

What is your opinion about the third book in this series?

June tbr

I know that I everytime I do a tbr post or whatever, I can never read all of the books that I wanted, but hey I don't want to stop trying. These are the ones I hope to read in June:

I'm not going to read all of the novels by Orwell, but I really want to read 1984. I also need to read Americanah, The Kite Runner and A Court Of Thornes And Roses. If I don't get to those this month I'll be really upset with myself. The other ones are the ones that I'd like to read, but I will be okay if that doesn't happen.

What is on your tbr for June?

I'm joining the Dewey's 24 Hour read-a-thon! + tbr

So this is going to happen again! Usually I can't participate because of school or other things, but now I can.

It will take place in the April 23rd (as you can see), but it starts at a different timezone for everyone. I live in the Amsterdam timezone, which means I will be starting at 2pm (on Saturday). I will try to post an update each hour (try, not making a promise here and of course not when I'm sleeping). I'm going to post on my Twitter, so click here if you don't follow me already. These are the books I plan to read:

I think it's manageable and quick reads (and not too challenging) so I really hope I can get to these. If you want to join as well you can follow the original Twitter account (klick here) for sprints and use the hashtag #readathon to chat along.

Are you going to join and if so what's on your tbr?

The Titan's Curse
The Titan's Curse - Rick Riordan

Halfway through the series and it's starting to get a bit repetitive, both the books and my reviews, I'm afraid.

Because I still really liked the mythology, which for me really is the strongest point of the series. I never particularly likes Percy or Annabeth, I mean they are nice enough but the teaming up of the smart girl and the not so smart but good boy who's going to save the world is something I've seen a bit too many times before. Therefore, neither of them really stood out. The mythology, however, did. (And I know this is not the only series using a lot of Greek mythology, but it's very cleverly done, positioning it in modern America. The only thing that could have made it better would have been to set the story in Europe).

Artemis and her Hunters were introduced in this book, and made the story for me. Also, the prophecy is getting more complicated still. I did start to get the feeling when reading this that the story follows the same structure every time (both in and between the books). While not my favourite, I still really enjoyed reading it.

The Titan's Curse is the third book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, the previous books are The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters.

I read a Dutch translation of this book.

The Titan's Curse: The Graphic Novel
Titan's Curse: The Graphic Novel - Rick Riordan,Gregory Guilhaumond,Attila Futaki,Robert Venditti

I know I should just give up on reading these but... they're so short, I can't help it. Plus, it was literally laying around in my house and within reach of me on the couch.

So I think that maybe the art, overall, is marginally better in this one than The Lightning Thief: The Graphic Novel or The Sea of Monsters: The Graphic Novel, but still pretty atrocious. This time around it was horrible because the faces were so inconsistent. At one point, Percy looks like a 30-year old man. And Thalia was all over the place. At times, she looked super masculine and I actually thought she was a dude, though I couldn't figure out who. I swear she had a goatee. In another panel, the goatee was gone and she looked like a girl. Mainly Percy and Thalia throughout the book changed faces and appearances like 10 times. It was absurd. And no, I double-checked to make sure I wasn't mixing them up with each other or a different character. The thing is that when Futaki is not drawing faces, his art is not half-bad. Unfortunately, there is a cast of characters in this series.

The story is fine (though The Titan's Curse has always been my least favorite of the PJATO series) and continues to be well condensed and transformed to fit a short graphic novel. But yikes, the art.

**Did I miss the part in the book where Percy gets a ride from his mom, like it says happens in the description????
