Practice Makes Perfect

Patrick “Patch” Donnelly has what it takes to be the best goalie in the NHL…if only he could learn to control his temper. When Coach orders him to get his head in the game with private yoga classes, Patch isn’t having it. There’s no way this tough Boston guy would be caught dead downward dog-ing his way to inner peace. But if he refuses, he risks his starting position and the dream he sacrificed everything for, including joining the priesthood.

Yoga instructor Margot Kowalski is over men. After yet another toxic relationship, she’s eager to forget love and focus on growing her business. Doing the Hellions head coach a favor by helping out a troubled player can’t hurt, and it might give her career a high-profile boost. But free-spirited Margot is soon charming the pants off Patch. Literally. Her sassy combination of sweet and sexy proves irresistible to the goalie. Before Patch can give into temptation though, he’ll have to confess his biggest secret:

He’s a virgin.

But Patch is hiding more than sexual inexperience, and his dark past soon threatens to destroy his shot at true love.

Margot stood on tiptoe, both hands clutching the front of his t-shirt, and kissed him full on the mouth. Their ragged breaths mingled a moment. He tasted the brown sugar in her lipgloss before she broke free, pressing a quick second kiss to the tip of his nose.

“Go to bed,” she whispered, clearing her throat and stepping back. “And have a great game tomorrow.”

It took every last shred of Patch’s willpower not to close the space again, to consume her. “There’s something else you should know.”

“Shoot.”

“I’m not going to get a lick of sleep if you leave.”

“If I stay, you won’t sleep either,” she shot back, shrugging into her jacket.

“I’ll take those odds.”

She shook her head slowly as if with reluctance. “I’ve got to fold. “Goodnight.”

He took her hand and held it between his own. Her skin was cooler than his. He didn’t like that. He wanted to tuck her against him, warm her up. “Do me a favor and call when you get home. I want to know you got back safe, especially driving on that spare.”

“It’s been a long time since anyone has cared if I got home,” she said with a smile.

“Careful, you might be turning into a gentleman.”

“Don’t get carried away. The things that I want to do to you are far from gentlemanly,” he said in a husky tone.

She rocked her head back and unleashed a frustrated moan. “Quit leading me into temptation. I’m trying to respect your virtue here.”

“My virtue can take a long jump off a short fucking bridge.”

“That might be. But . . .if we end up taking that jump. I want it to be special. That’s important. I want you to feel special.”

Blood rushed to his ears. “Funny, I feel the same way about you.”

“Then we’re in agreement and I’m leaving.” A wicked gleam entered her gaze. “But while you wait for my call, slip into something more comfortable.”

“Like?”

“Nothing at all.”

She blew a kiss, pirouetted, and was gone.

Virgin Territory (Hellions Angels, #3)Virgin Territory by Lia Riley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book #3, in the Hellions Angels series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and understand the series, I recommend reading this great series in order.

Patrick AKA "Patch" is an amazing hockey player. He also has a temper. This time it may cost him all he holds dear, unless he is willing to meet a certain sexy female in the middle.

Margot is more than willing to help Patch learn the yoga secrets that can help him stay calm. What she doesn't know is in around her he is anything but calm. If she can reach him on another level, she can save his whole career.

This book was amazing! The emotions felt so real. I loved their banter. The pace of the book was nice and steady. The heat and sexy times felt like the author just turned up the thermostat - cause it was HOT!

About Lia Riley:

After studying at the University of Montana-Missoula, Lia Riley scoured the world armed only with a backpack, overconfidence and a terrible sense of direction. She counts shooting vodka with a Ukranian mechanic in Antarctica, sipping yerba mate with gauchos in Chile and swilling fourex with stationhands in Outback Australia among her accomplishments.

Virgin Territory
Virgin Territory - Lia Riley 3.5 - 3.75 stars

I picked this up because I enjoyed Head Coach, and I have a weakness for sports stories. I was interested in finding out what made volatile Patch tick, and what the deal was with his bar brawl. While he seemed like an out of control freight train in the previous book, his reasons for his short temper were presented so well that I felt a pang of empathy for him.

Margot Kowalski is asked by her BFF’s main squeeze, coach Tor, to help Patch Donnelly learn to control his temper before he’s thrown out of the NFL. Margot’s not thrilled with this assignment, but she wants to open her own yoga studio and the PR, if she’s successful, could go a long way to helping her venture become profitable. Her first meeting with Patch doesn’t go as expected, and she thinks she’s doomed to failure. Her determination to help him goes a long way, and before she knows it, she’s gotten to know him a little too well. Can she keep business and pleasure separate?

Margot is a woman with just as many issues as Patch. She’ been slut shamed since high school, and because of an unpleasant relationship, she can’t stand gingers. Patch, bless his heart, is a red-headed god, and Margot is quickly reconsidering her opinion of auburn haired males. Margot’s ex runs an MMA studio, and he also stalks her in his spare time. Possessive and verbally abusive, he belittles her for having relationships prior to meeting him. He’s a douche, and despite my wishes for Patch to get his temper under control, I wanted him to rip the ex’s arm off.

Patch is the product of a childhood filled with neglect. His mother was an addict, and he watched as one abusive male after another used and abused her. He swore that he would never treat a woman badly. Instead, he kept himself as far away from them as possible, concentrating first on hockey, and then a brief stint studying to be a priest. He couldn’t deal with the rules, and oh, his temper keep popping up, so he went back to hockey, where he was picked up by the Hellions. A gifted goalie, Patch’s uncertain flashes of rage have been the cause of much grief for him. Almost as much grief as keeping his deepest, darkest secret – he’s a virgin.

I really enjoyed this story, but I wish it has been longer so that the relationship could have developed a bit more slowly. I thought that aspects of the story were glossed over too quickly, but that’s really nit-picking. I liked Patch and how he accepted Margot as the gift she was. She helped him learn to control himself and not go off when he got angry, and she taught him that he was deserving of love. Both Margot and Patch had a difficult time accepting that they were capable and deserving of a loving partner, and they were perfect for each other, propping up each other’s weaknesses.

I have enjoyed the two Hellions books that I read (I did pick up the 1st during an Amazon sale, but I haven’t read it yet). I hope that this isn’t the last book because I liked the setting so much. Regardless, I will keep my eyes open for more books by the author.

Grade: 3.5 – 3.75 stars

Virgin Territory - Kim Dare

*Book source ~ A review copy was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Aaron Banks has had a grueling few weeks and he just wants to relieve some tension at the Spread Eagle. When a buddy points out a new sub on the scene and informs him that said sub is a virgin, Aaron isn’t all that interested. Until he gets a look at Danny Clarke, that is. He’s hooked and he wants Danny hooked to him before another Dom claims him. Lucky for Aaron, Danny seems to want the same thing. But when they leave the club Danny surprises Aaron with some important information. You know what they say about assumptions, right?

Hmmm…this one has a bit of a twist that was interesting. Danny is right sick of assumptions and it makes him a bit pissy. But it just seemed to me that he was going to cut off his nose to spite his face. Lucky for him Aaron was more flexible than I would have been. I would have walked out. Anyway, it turns out that Danny and Aaron fit together like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Another great intro to M/M BDSM by Kim Dare. This is a self-contained story. No need to read others in the series to know what’s going on, but you’ll want to seek them out when you’re done.

Virgin Territory
Virgin Territory - Kim Dare Finally back to the Kim Dare stuff I love. I seemed to have gone through a little slump were I wasn't feeling a connection between her MCs. This was a short, non-angsty read. I felt Danny and Aaron's connection from the second they locked eyes across the club. And I loved Danny's attitude and not just letting Aaron make assumptions because Danny was a virgin. And Aaron allowing Danny to have his attitude and also letting Danny try being a dom and topping, even though it's (the Dom part anyway) clearly NOT his thing. I think Aaron was great for a just out of the closet guy like Danny who wanted to try everything instead of forcing Danny to just be a sub or just be a bottom. I didn't like Aaron thinking about another guy (Tom) during sex though.
