Madam Velvet's Cabaret of Oddities
Madam Velvet's Cabaret of Oddities - Nancy Stohlman
Creepy Carnivals for Halloween Bingo!

A woman so determined to be famous, she'll try anything.  So will her reflection.  Together, woman and reflection travel around until they find a place where they belong.  However, when they get separated, one is not sure how to function without the other.

Written in the style of flash fiction, each chapter of Madam Velvet's Cabaret of Oddities ranges from a sentence to several paragraphs.  I have only read a few flash fiction short stories before, so reading an entire book in this style was definitely a new experience for me.  It did take me a few chapters to get into the story, but once I was in the groove, I was devouring page after page.  Much like the shards of the broken reflection, the story is told in bits and pieces.  Information is received out of order and sometimes out of context, there are flashbacks to the woman's childhood as well as visits from her future self.  There are peeks into the lives of other carnival workers like the Four-Legged Woman and the Human Skeleton as well.  With this style of writing, my imagination went wild creating the settings and characters in my mind.  Some of the settings and scenarios were outrageous, such as the Fantasy Hand-Job brothel, but the themes of self-worth and longing will be able to connect with any reader. Madam Velvet's Cabaret of Oddities is an eerie and different flash-fiction read, easily consumed in one sitting.

This book was received for free in return for an honest review.

Cosmic Cabaret: Science Fiction Romance Anthology
Cosmic Cabaret: Science Fiction Romance Anthology - Alicia Kat Vancil,Athena Grayson,Dena Garson,Kerry Adrienne,Selene Grace Silver,Cailin Briste,Blaire Edens,Rosalie Redd,Jayne Fury,Diana Rivis,SFR Shooting Stars,Cathryn Cade (CJ Cade),Tessa McFionn,Jenna Lincoln
Cosmic Cabaret is an anthology of science fiction romance stories that all take place upon the LS Quantum. Each story is individual, with separate characters and situations.

This is an AMAZING anthology. You could even say it was out of this world! (Sorry, it had to be done!) Some of the stories involve insta-love, some of them have loved from afar for years. Some are people on the run, some are princes and princesses, some are both prince/princess AND on the run. What I'm trying to say is that there is something here for everyone.

Each story is very well written, with characters and situations that are completely relate-able, so long as you keep the sci-fi theme fresh in your mind. From doctors to spies to male dancers to Burlesque dancers, this anthology has it all. I didn't feel like a single story let it down, although I do obviously have my favourites. I have found some new (to me) authors that I will be reading more of, which is always a good thing. Absolutely recommended by me, and I'm hoping for more to come!

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

Independent reviewer for Archaeolibrarian, I was gifted my copy of this box set. Welcome aboard the LS Quantum, a star ship to rival all the star ships. 13 stories based on board and around the entertainers and the guests, finding love among the stars was never their plans, but who are they to mess with fate?? I mostly enjoyed these. One or two I didn't read, and there was no one that stood out as they usually do, for me anyway, in these box sets. Some authors I've not read before, and I find these box sets the best way to find new to me authors. We have humans and aliens, princes and rock stars, murders to solve and thieves to track. All the ones I read were well written, with no spelling or editing errors I spotted. Some are more explicit than others, and some carry are darker undertone. Some are a little more way sci-fi based and some are just two people falling in love on a space ship. A great box set, great value for the £2.95/$3.89 (Nov 8th 2017) is on sale for. 4 solid stars **same worded review will appear elsewhere**

Painted faces by L.H. Cosway
Painted Faces - L.H. Cosway

Five stars are not enough!

I'm so glad I found this book! I have to be honest, at first the idea of a hero being a drag queen didn't appeal to me too much but that is the point I'm trying to make here...

"Painted faces" was an unique and pleasant read and I totally fell in love with Nicholas aka Vivica. Let me say, I am openminded but still I was thinking "Is this normal?" well, I don't know or...

Nicholas is adorable, deliciously sexy and broken (yeah idk what is it with broken men, we can't resist them!) so it was easy forgetting that he enjoys dressing as a woman from thursday to saturday nights, although for him is much more than that.

"I get that some men want to dress up as woman because they want to be a woman. I don't want to be a woman though, at least not when I'm off the stage. I perform for the catharsis, because it's freeing."

Freda, she was hilarious, she speaks her mind, doesn't take shit from anyone and is shy sometimes, it was easy connecting with her.

"I'd come to the realisation that I love Nicholas. All it took was for him to save me from being mangled by a car. But I know that's not the only reason why I love him. I love him because he makes me laugh when I don't feel like laughing. I love him because he challenges my view of what a man is. I love him because I know I shouldn't love him and that he'll break my heart. I love him because he's a complete and total anomaly. I love him because I want to kill the sadness inside him more than I want anything else in the world."

They don't have a perfect love but they have a heartbreakingly beautiful one and I loved it!
