Hard Rock Improv - Ava Lore
Rock Courtship - Nalini Singh

Play - Kylie Scott
Wicked Beat - Olivia Cunning

Playing With the Drummer (Entangled Indulgence) (Head Over Heels) - Robin Covington
Paradise - Jill S. Alexander

There a lots of kinds of drummers. Sadly, Romanceland seems to be made up of only one kind - Rock Drummers.  Not that they aren't good to look at and fun to read about but come on gimme some--drumline, jazz, big band, reggae, military, drum circle, African drumming, Powwow, orchestral, session drums, Cuban, street... I got one Traditionial Japanese in here.

Who is your favortive real life drummer? I love Cindy Blackman, Buddy Rich, Keith Moon, Janet Weiss, Max Roach, Chuck Biscuits. Shelia E., Lars Ulrich, Meg White, Gene Krupa...

Did I mention I love the drums? Don't even get me started on the Stand Up Bass. Whoa, Mama!

Here are some great Romance Novel Drummers for you to enjoy! My lists are never in any particular order.

1. Steady Beat by Lexxie Couper $3.44

Back when he was playing drums for rock star Nick Blackthorne, it was easy for Noah Holden to focus on the sticks in his hand. Now that the band is getting back together, he’s excited—and worried. His ADHD has made every minute of his post-Blackthorne life a chaotic mess.

His apprehension is blown away when a bar waitress makes him a proposition—and not the kind this king of drums is used to.

When Pepper Kerrigan overhears the band talking reunion, she pushes her self-doubt aside, calls on her encyclopedic music knowledge and challenges Noah Holden to a trivia contest. Her prize should she win? An audition. His? A kiss. Their smoking sexual chemistry guarantees victory—for them both.

With Pepper, Noah is finally able to control his stormy creative energy. But when his wild past catches up with him, he faces the fight of his life to keep from losing his smoky-voiced angel. The one woman who keeps his mind—and his heart—staying on rhythm.

2. Lush by Lauren Dane

Mary Whaley has her hands full running a successful catering company and overseeing her supper club. She has everything she ever wanted—or so she thought. When she meets ridiculously hot and very dirty rock star Damien Hurley at her friend’s engagement party, the attraction she feels is overpowering—and she isn’t about to deny herself.

Damien is used to a hard and fast life. He and two of his brothers started a band when they were fresh out of high school—then they hit the big time and stayed there. He’s also a legendary madman on the stage and in the bedroom. But when he meets Mary, something clicks, and the bad boy starts thinking he may have finally found something good.

What begins as a series of fleeting trysts soon gets much more complicated. Damien can’t figure out why Mary doesn’t want more from him. And before long, it’s Damien who wants more from Mary. But it turns out Mary is no stranger to celebrity news, and he’s got a very big job ahead of him: proving that he’s worth more than a one-night stand…

3. Hard Rock Improv by Ava Lore $2.99

Rose Alton had her future all planned out: excel at her career, find love, make a family and get rich. Then she got fired. Now after years of 90-hour work weeks she’s living out of her car and struggling to hold it together. Convinced she’ll turn it around any day now, keeping up appearances is her highest priority, but when Manny Reyes, her sister’s friend and drummer of the band The Lonely Kings, discovers her deception her secret is out… or so she thinks.

To her surprise, Manny offers to keep her secret and invites her to Kauai, where he grew up and where the band is shooting their latest video. Rose hates to be anyone’s charity case, but with nowhere else to go and needing a vacation she reluctantly accepts and is whisked away to the island paradise.

Rose soon discovers Manny isn’t like anyone she has ever met, rock star or not, Instead of preferring lavish hotels, fine dining, and parties until the break of dawn, when not on the set Manny prefers eating Spam, playing for change, and smoking out with the local hobos on the beach.

But there's a dark secret lurking on the island, one that plagues Manny, even when he's on the other side of the ocean. As the heat between Rose and Manny builds, Rose begins to realize that there are some times when you need to break the rules...and that the only thing you can't plan for is falling in love...

4. Rock Courtship by Nalini Singh $2.99

A drummer for the hottest rock band on the planet, David has a single, powerful weakness: Thea, the band’s publicist and the woman who steals his breath away with her every move.

Only problem is, Thea doesn’t date clients—or musicians. Emotionally scarred by a cheating ex, she’s not about to risk her heart with a man who has groupies buzzing around him like flies. Even if his sexy smile ties her up in knots.

What she doesn’t know is that David is a one-woman man...and he’s madly in love with her. David’s determined to prove he’s worth the risk, and willing to court her, step by exquisite step. Thea’s about to discover just how long and hard this handsome drummer can play.

5. More Than Comics by Elizabeth Briggs $2.99

Writer Tara McFadden has been friends with artist and drummer Hector Fernandez for years, long before his band became famous on reality TV – yet they’ve never met in person. They finally have a chance to connect offline when they’re both sent to Comic-Con to promote the graphic novel they collaborated on.

Hector's secretly been in love with Tara for as long as he can remember, and once they meet, she sees him in a new light. All the years of longing lead to an incredible night of passion after one of his concerts, but neither is sure if their online relationship can translate into a real life romance – or if this will ruin their friendship forever.

Over four crazy days at Comic-Con, Hector and Tara must decide if they want a future together. But when their story seems to be over, it’s up to Hector’s entire band to make sure he and Tara get their happy ending.

6. Play by Kylie Scott $3.99

al Ericson, drummer for the world famous rock band Stage Dive, needs to clean up his image fast-at least for a little while. Having a good girl on his arm should do the job just fine. Mal doesn't plan on this temporary fix becoming permanent, but he didn't count on finding the one right girl.

Anne Rollins never thought she'd ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls-especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn't end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

7. Wicked Beat by Olivia Cunning $3.82

When Rebekah Blake becomes the Sinners' new soundboard operator, she has no idea that red-hot drummer Eric Sticks is the only man who can give her everything her dirty mind desires...

8. A Drummer's Beat to Mend by Kei Swanson

Tetsuro Takemitsu has devoted his life to taiko drumming, in the process sacrificing family for the love of performing. MacKenna Stafford, a brilliant orthopedic surgeon, has given her life to medicine, having long lost all hope of marriage and children. It had to be destiny when a freak accident brought them together and East met West. For it soon became apparent that McKenna would find her heart being brought back to life as gently as the delicate surgery she practiced to repair Tetsuro's hand in bringing back the beat to his life.

9. Playing With the Drummer by Robin Covington $2.99

Entertainment journalist Lita Matthews is on the verge of making it big. As in her-own-TV-show big. She just needs amazing inside scoop on the year's hottest celebrity wedding. Instead, her big break is becoming a big nightmare—all thanks to rock star Rocky Cardano. Who apparently hasn't gotten over what happened between them four years ago...

Rocky is pretty damn familiar with just how far Lita will go for a “scoop.” Hell, their unbelievably hot hook-up in Mexico years ago was the story of a lifetime. Rocky's learned his lessons. He'll do whatever it takes to keep her from the story—even if he has to seduce her to the point of distraction! But Lita has always had a way of getting under his skin. Only this time, he won't be able to just walk away...

10. Paradise by Jill S. Alexander

Paisley Tillery is the drummer for a country rock band. If they can make it to the stage at the Texapalooza music fest, then Paisley will be closer to her dream of a career in music and a ticket out of her small Texas town.

Drumming and music are what Paisley has always wanted. Until the band gets a new lead singer, the boy from Paradise, Texas. With Paradise in her life, what Paisley wants, and what she needs, complicate her dreams coming true.

Hard Rock Improv (The Lonely Kings, #3) - Ava Lore

Review

So, Ava Lore is officially a guilty pleasure read for me. There is lots of stuff that doesn't really make sense. Dangling threads... and yet I still enjoy the hell out of myself.

If I didn't read as much as I do, then I might not enjoy this fast food romance but I do so I do.

We have a sexy drummer who just likes a woman. The woman is perfectionist overachiever whose life has gone to crap.

There is impossible hammock sex. See, fun.

The Adventures of Drake & McTrowell on Krypton Radio
Aaron Sikes and Elizabeth Watasin (I'm the one going, "OMG, what?"), Clockwork Alchemy 2013, Drake & McTrowell's "Hot Potato School of Writing" game

#steampunk TONIGHT! (well, Monday, 3am Pacific, and so on), The Adventures of Drake & McTrowell on Krypton Radio will be broadcasting (and if I'm wrong, it's because I mixed up the dates), an episode of PERILS OF A POSTULATED PAST as well as recordings of my and dashing author Aaron Sikes' participation in Drake & McTrowell's "Hot Potato School of Writing" improv at Clockwork Alchemy 2013. Yes, Drake and McTrowell are real life steampunks and storytellers and they were a pleasure to play with! I think I and my story partner Penelope Dreadfulle won the first round of cheese mafia, Prince Albert, an automaton lady, plus invasion of London by Switzerland (the game, to put it simply, tosses many story aspects at the game players, as provided by the audience, and then is woven into a coherent story in under 3 minutes). BUT my brain was entirely tapped out by the second round and the delightful Aaron and his story partner won that, hands down.

'Twas my first story improv game and I probably developed a few grey hairs thanks to it, ;) but everyone had a blast. So check out the show, at least to enjoy some great steampunk tales and adventuring with Drake & McTrowell!

A brand new episode of The Adventures of Drake and McTrowell  airs each week at the following times:

  • Mondays 3AM Pacific / 6AM Eastern / 11 AM GMT
  • Mondays 11AM Pacific / 2PM Eastern / 7 PM GMT
  • Thursdays 5PM Pacific / 8PM Eastern / Friday 1 AM GMT

- – -

This radio serial is based directly upon the highly popular written, continuing story of The Adventures of Drake and McTrowell: Perils in a Postulated Past.

(both photos swiped from Drake & McTrowell's site and blog!).
