Deadly Intent was a book that had been lurking on my shelves for the past 6 years. I bought it during a time I was reading a lot of police procedurals and I had heard the name of Lynda La Plante often so I wanted to give it a try.

It comes in over 600 pages and makes you wonder. Does a police procedural need to be thing long? The answer is probably no. I felt it could have been shortened with at least a hundred pages without losing any of the information in it.

This is the fourth book in the series, but the first one I read. Therefore I was not as connected with the characters as could have been. There was quite some tension, with the main character Anna making some stupid decisions.

As a crime novel, it was fine, but not the kind of special I had hoped for. (This is also much less my genre now than it was back when I bought it, which my account for some of it).

If you love Chick-Lit and you laugh out load at comedy novels, then this is the book (or audio) for your summer holiday. 

Harriet is a lovable Battersea girl, all rough edges and self-deprecation. She works as a laundrette manager to make money for her medical studies and has a low-life of a boyfriend, Julian. When he lets her down big time, Harriet finds herself saddled with a huge debt and no way of paying it off.
She receives 'An offer she can't refuse' and her ensuing adventures feature gangsters, engagement to a wealthy creep, inviting her wacky family to a large country mansion and, of course, romance.

I have yet to find a book that actually makes me laugh out loud. I can cry buckets, but for some reason I never laugh. So, to say this book made me smile, is probably a good sign. Yes, it was a bit exasperating, but I was forewarned by the title. The ending was a bit predictable, but the way it came about was definitely original.

I wasn't really a fan of the narration, although Rosie Akerman has been praised by other reviewers, I found her male voices unconvincing - with the exception of her sexy Bryce voice. She did a good job with the accents though, so credit where credit's due.

All in all, a good romp, something to take your mind off your own troubles for a few hours.

Guarding Reese is a story by R.S. McCoy, in the Wings of the Wicked anthology. In it we meet Cass, a guardian angel who has had to spend nine years away from his charge. Reese has worked his way through five other guardians, but no one seems to work. Cass is given the chance to work with Reese again, and he follows his heart to the one who has held it since the first moment they met.

This book is a paradox - it is both steamy and sexy, whilst also fading to black. The passion between Reese and Cass is full-on, and full of emotion. I was hoping for that ending, but I wasn't sure I would get it. R.S. McCoy managed to keep me on tenterhooks throughout.

This is an excellent story, being well written, and with no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading. The pacing is smooth, and the characters well rounded. I would love to know if this is part of a series, as I would love for Vin and Alexander to have their stories too!

If you like reading about hot and sexy angels, or ripped musicians who know what they want, then I can definitely recommend this book.

For the last year I've become very picky about what I choose to read. I believe I'm very sure about my likes and dislikes at this point. I'm a Literary Fiction and Historical Gal. I really want to read my own books, but have bitten off more than I can chew, in past years, in requests. 

Going forward, perusing book websites to acquire more books will be in my past. I want to concentrate on reading what I've already obtained. My concentration will be put on the social media sites that are more of my lane and those are Goodreads and Booklikes. I'm a recovering Instagram scroller and Youtube time waster. This year I will have more focus and drive for what inspires me and allows me to thrive.
