Murder By Muffin (Whispering Bay Mystery Book 3) by Maria Geraci
Murder By Muffin (Whispering Bay Mystery, #3) - Maria Geraci

Geraci has a wicked sense of human and an overactive imagination. Murder By Muffin is adorably, ironic. Lucy is all things crazy, but despite her actively awkward life, her heart is as pure as they come. A baker by trade, a human lie detector and owner a dog with an even more interesting talent. Thrust into a murder mystery and looking to be the major suspect, she's in over her head and the drama could cost her, her heart. Geraci captivates with laughter, intrigue and unpredictably.

Blueberry Muffin Murder (A Hannah Swensen Mystery)
Blueberry Muffin Murder (A Hannah Swensen Mystery) - Joanne Fluke Hannah Swensen, owner of The Cookie Jar, is as busy as ever. She is preparing for the Winter Carnival, but doesn't expect the glory she desires. Another woman, Connie Mac, gets top honors for the upcoming carnival. From a distance Hannah never liked Connie. However, when Connie arrives in Hannah's town, the taste in her mouth grows even more sour.

Connie is quite unlikable, and not just to Hannah. Most assuredly to someone, because, before long, she turns up dead - in Hannah's pantry of all places. With the carnival rapidly approaching, Hannah is more than a bit overwhelmed. With Connie murdered at Hannah's bakery, it is now off-limits. Hannah begins to scramble in order to find places to prepare her delectable blueberry muffins and other exceptional delicacies. More than that, Hannah is determined to find out who killed Connie. Just maybe she may get her kitchen back sooner that way.

While everything is going on, Hannah is enjoying the attention of two men in her town, the dentist Norman and the detective Mike. There are things about both of them that Hannah likes so she is keeping her options open.

Mike is nonplussed when Hannah will not stay away from the investigation. No matter to Hannah however. Ignoring Mike and his demands, Hannah begins questioning everyone about town. Meanwhile, Hannah finds a way to continue to bake and the reader is gifted with several delightful recipes in the pages of this book.

Blueberry Muffin Murder is part of a wonderful cozy mystery series that I have just begin reading. I am excited to be reading it now, and love the fact that there are already two dozen titles, with the twenty-fifth due in February, 2020.

Eat the Damn Muffin: Confidence for Every Body - Jenni Dunlap

Eat the Damn Muffin: Confidence for Every Body by Jenni Dunlap is all about loving yourself and your body.  She writes: “All bodies are good, and all bodies are beautiful. This is a fuck those beauty standards type of book, because beauty is a state of mind not state of body.”  Okay, I’m definitely in!

The book isn’t about changing your body; it’s about changing how your mind feels about your body, and bringing out the best in yourself.  Jenni is very clear that learning to love yourself is not about letting go of your own identity; she writes “Be your best self, not someone else.”

She’s super encouraging, saying that even if you don’t see it yourself, “Believe me when I say you’re stunning.”

She advocates wearing what you want and not using your clothing to hide yourself, and if other people don’t like it, well then “society can shove it.”  There is also a list of body positive affirmations to try out.

Jenni encourages readers to keep taking small sips of positivity until suddenly you’ve got yourself a nice big glass of happy.  This includes being kind to yourself, trying new things that make you smile, and pursuing the things that make you the happiest.

One of my favourite pieces of advice was to “diddle your skittle.”  I may not have heard that particular phrasing before, but yes, I agree!  Plus I love the fact that she mentions it, because we don’t talk enough about masturbation as a female pleasure, not just a male pleasure.

The book talks about the relationship between being physically healthy and having a healthy body image and relationship with one’s body.  She writes: “Once I defined what made me happy, I used it to live healthier. Combining health and happiness was a lot easier than I realized, and I am still able to eat my damn muffins.”

As women (and also as men) we are constantly bombarded by societal messages about what our bodies are supposed to be, and how we’re supposed to feel about them.  This book things that kind of thinking that limits us to the curb and embraces a much more positive concept of how to live within the amazing bodies that we’ve been given.

If you’re struggling with how to have a more accepting, loving relationship with your body, this book is for you.

Real
Muffin Top - Avery Flynn

Lucy and Frankie have already met through mutual friends.  When he rescues her - literally from a jerk who has approached her.  Can Lucy control her urges when she finds herself attracted to the hunky firefighter?

Frankie has suddenly found himself in a position to get to know the elusive Lucy.  The more her learns, the hotter the attraction between them fizzles and pops until an explosion is inevitable.  Now to convince her what he feels for her is real.

This is a great installment to The Hartigans series.  I am finding that each book gets better and better.  The family is fun to read about.  Each character has their own quirks and personality.  It was truly a joy to read each page!  I cannot wait for the next book in this incredible series.  I give this  5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
