New man
Fake Love - Peter Styles

Ethan did not want to go home for a wedding that will never take place.  Nathan had to find a needle in a haystack.  Can them finding each other be love?

Nathan promised his father's best friend he would find his son, in exchange for something he wants so dearly.  Ethan does not know how to tell his family he was not enough, again.  They meet, and both their lives are changed.

Ethan is trying to save face.  Nathan just wants to help Ethan, out of the goodness of his heart.  But when a meddling family think they are helping.....

Let's just say there is a surprise around every corner.  I shall leave it at that.  I am not one to give spoilers but this short and sweet romance is seriously worth it.  I give this story a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Book Review - Triage: The Diary of a Celestial Social Worker
Triage: The Diary of a Celestial Social Worker - P. J. Nash

Triage: The Diary of a Celestial Social Worker, is about a man called Ronnie, who is the victim of a bomb attack in Northern Ireland, leaving him floating somewhere between dead and alive. In order to move on from this in-between world, Ronnie must make it his mission to help others in need. In a way, he becomes a guardian angel.

This is an enjoyable novella and a fun idea that had me wondering about what happens to us when we die. I hope I get to help a few people too. Although, that also had me thinking, I could just make even more effort to help others while I’m alive.

This was quite a quick and easy read. However, I did feel there were too many characters written in first person. This is more of a personal preference, and it doesn’t make the story confusing, as the chapters are clearly marked with names, but I felt a couple of the personalities didn’t really shine through as different voices, so I would probably have preferred them to have been written about, rather than talking to me, leaving the main first person focus on Ronnie and Dorothy.

Thank you to the author for sending me an eBook copy of Triage: The Diary of a Celestial Social Worker, after I won a copy in a giveaway run by Joseph Calleja at Relax and Read Book Reviews on Facebook.

Little Lies
Little Lies - Heather Gudenkauf

By Heather Gudenkauf

ISBN-13: 9781459256170
Publisher: Harlequin
Publication Date: 5/1/14
Format: e-book  A Novella
Pages: 45 pages
My Rating: 5 Stars

Heather Gudenkauf’s LITTLE LIES is a short novella, a prequel for her upcoming riveting LITTLE MERCIES. A story of a social worker, Ellen—a woman who is balancing her personal and work life as a mother of three, husband, and a complex career.

Having read an ARC of LITTLE MERCIES (a 5-star winner), prior to LITTLE LIES. (I tend to start with the latest releases, and if I fall in love with the author, I dive into all their previous books; hence, here I am--as Heather has made it to my favorite author list!

Was so intrigued with Ellen, and wanted to go back to learn more about her life. LITTLE LIES introduces Ellen, as she gets called to assist with an investigation. A child has lost his mother in a brutal murder. The body was found beneath a park statue which is similar to a murder thirteen years ago—with a little boy left behind.

Full of suspense, both books can be standalone reads; however, highly recommend both books. Fans of Diane Chamberlain (First Lies/Necessary Lies), and Jodi Picoult (have read all their books), will devour.

I love novels featuring social workers, as they are so undervalued, with big responsibilities— making for an emotional, and gripping novel.

The First Lie (A Novella)
The First Lie - Diane Chamberlain

By Diane Chamberlain

ISBN-13: 9781466839403

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Publication date: 6/4/2013

Sold by: Macmillan

Format: eBook

Pages: 35

My Rating:  5 Stars

The First Lie gives readers an early glimpse into the life of thirteen-year-old Ivy Hart. It’s 1958 in rural North Carolina, where Ivy lives with her grandmother and sister on a tobacco farm.

Loved this compelling e-short story, setting the stage for "Necessary Lies". (which I read --an advanced reading copy—and loved it)! It was nice to go back to revisit and learn more about Mary Ella and of course, Ivy.

The simple life on the farm begins to change when Ivy's teen sister gives birth as she keeps silent about the baby's father.  Ivy is caught between a web of secrets and the segregated South and not sure who she can trust in a small town with big secrets and lies.

Would highly recommend both books as Diane never disappoints!

Necessary Lies
Necessary Lies - Diane Chamberlain

By: Diane Chamberlain

ISBN-13: 9781250010698

Publisher: St. Martin's Press

Publication date: 9/3/2013

Pages: 352

My Rating:  5 Stars

I received an advance reading copy of Necessary Lies and could not wait to dive in and stayed up all night and finished this morning!

An extraordinary and inspirational novel-cannot stop thinking about it----Diane did an outstanding job with a complex topic and her excellent research skills were definitely reflective throughout the book with careful plot planning and storytelling. Her best work thus far!

From the character development (loved Jane/Ivy), the dialect, insight, the setting – she nailed it! A beautiful story of loss, love, struggles, difficult choices, and redemption (loved the ending). I could very much relate being from the rural south (NC) in the sixties.

Diane offers an insight as to the difficult choices and a close-up of how minors, sometimes with little control over certain circumstances--with the feeling of no way out of their environment in order to change the vicious cycle. Combine this with others having the power to make choices for them without thinking of their future or their best interests. (It was amazing how much control social workers had over situations during this era.)

Hats off to the tenacious professionals who “cross the lines” and take a chance for the welfare of their clients and their futures. Set in rural Grace County, North Carolina in a time of state-mandated sterilizations and racial tension,

Necessary Lies tells the story of these two young women, seemingly worlds apart, but both haunted by tragedy. A Must Read! I look forward to the e-book The First Lie as well.
