Release Blitz - Guarding Suzie
Title: Guarding Suzie
Authors: Nicole Flockton
Genre: Adult, Special Forces Romance
Published: March 20, 2018
Page Count: 202 Pages
After getting out of a bad relationship, Suzie Peterson has worked hard for her independence. Nothing is going to throw her off track, even if her life is taking a turn she hadn’t planned on thanks to one night with a sexy Navy SEAL three months ago.

When Ryan ‘Joker’ Smith gets shot on a mission, the last person he expects to see walk into his hospital room is the woman he hasn’t been able to forget. Her reluctance to have anything to do with him only makes him more determined to be front and center in her life.

Thanks to her past, Suzie can’t give up her hard-fought control over her life, though Ryan’s sweet patience and sensual kisses, makes her want to. But when her life is threatened, she needs Ryan more than ever. Will he make it in time or will their chance to be together be lost forever?

Guarding Suzie Excerpt © Nicole Flockton 2018
A red-hot, searing pain pierced Ryan ‘Joker’ Smith’s leg.
“Fuck.” His left leg buckled beneath him. Before he could face plant into the mud an arm banded around his waist and pulled him upright.
“I got you, man. Can you walk?” yelled Greg ‘Cowboy’ Robertson, both of them ducking as another round of shots were fired in their direction.
Ryan gripped his left thigh. “Yeah.” Even if he couldn’t there was no way he’d let his teammate know.
Cowboy nodded. “We’ll get to cover and then we can check out your injury.”
Gritting his teeth Ryan shifted most of his weight to his right leg and, with Cowboy’s help, they made their way to a grove trees.
“Sitrep.” Robot’s voice came over the coms.
“Joker’s hit,” Cowboy responded to their leader. “We’re heading to the trees ten clicks west from our last check in. Will give update when we can.’
“Roger, that.’
A few seconds later they were covered by trees and Ryan collapsed on the ground. “Shit, this burns like a fucker.”
Cowboy slapped his pack down on the ground next to him and pulled out his first aid kit. “This is gonna burn even more.”
Ryan knew what exactly was going to happen next. “Tell me something I don’t already know. Where are the other guys?”
“Who the fuck knows. Now get ready.”
Cowboy ripped the QuikClot pack and poured the contents over his bullet wound. Ryan bit back a groan at the sting of the powder. He breathed through it, when what he really wanted to do was curse up a blue streak. He knew the QuikClot was only a temporary measure, but it would be enough to get him through until they were able to get safely out of the hellhole they were in.
He closed his eyes and rested his back against the tree trunk, waiting until the burn died down to a more manageable pain level.
“You okay?”
He grunted in response to Cowboy’s question. He knew the bullet hadn’t gone through. It was still lodged in his thigh which meant he had surgery in his future. Thinking about surgery reminded him of the night he’d spent with the hot nurse he’d met when the team had taken his teammate, Italy’s, woman, Erin, to hospital after her kidnapping. Behind his closed eyes, a vision slammed his brain, the hot nurse, her hair spread across the pillow, her mouth open groaning out her release, as they climaxed together.
It had been one night three months ago. They’d agreed on the one night. No numbers had been exchanged, but sometimes he thought about her. More than he’d thought about any of his other hook-ups. Ryan refused to acknowledge that he hadn’t even thought about sleeping with another woman since that night.

USA Today Bestselling author Nicole Flockton writes sexy contemporary romances, seducing you one kiss at a time as you turn the pages. Nicole likes nothing better than taking characters and creating unique situations where they fight to find their true love.

On her first school report her teacher noted "Nicole likes to tell her own stories". It wasn’t until after the birth of her first child and after having fun on a romance community forum that she finally decided to take the plunge and write a book. Apart from writing Nicole is busy looking after her very own hero – her wonderfully supportive husband, and two fabulous kids. She also enjoys watching sports and, of course, reading.

Once it got going, it was a fantastic read
A Dark & Stormy Knight - Suzie Quint

This story took a bit to get going but once it did, I did not want to put it down. It takes years for this second chance to happen, although Georgia and Sol have many opportunities in the meantime. The stubbornness of Georgia, along with all her fears, keeps her pushing away, but this is one of the things I enjoyed about the book. Georgia finally sees the truth and the path was an emotionally bumpy one. Sol has never truly given up on Georgia and is very tenacious without admitting the complete truth. It was a race to the end and kept me up past my bedtime to finish it.

I received a copy of this story through Candid Book Reviews, and this is my unsolicited review.

How John Taylor Surprised Me With His Beliefs About Good and Evil -- A Review of Paths Not Taken (Nightside #5)
Paths Not Taken - Simon R. Green

My Thoughts

The first instance ever that I have read the words jet-black describing the MC's mom's hair. The thing with jet-black is that while I have heard it used quite often in my family, I haven't heard it or read it anywhere else. We use it to describe a shade of black darker than black and shiny. Maybe I found this word because this book was written by a British author and not an American one. Could be that this word is one of the vestiges left behind by the British from their time in the Subcontinent.

New word learned: Suppurate

When I looked it up, it meant:

Fester

I also made the mistake of searching for images associated with this word. My advice to you? Never be that stupid! *shudders for the tenth time*

"...Lilith frowned, concentrating, and spoke another Word. ...Lilith gave birth to the Nightside through a single effort of Will and determination."

I don't know about the other religions but in Islam, when God wanted to create the world, He spoke one word. He said, "Be" and so the world was. Which is why, it was unsurprising that the scene with Lilith's creation of Nightside seemed quite familiar.

Some parts of the book read beautifully. A few of my favorites, with some background for reference, follow:

"Because Good and Evil and consequences have a way of creeping in, whenever people get together." That is why, according to John, Lilith seeks to destroy the Nightside she created.

According to the angels who show up, they take forms that human minds can comprehend. The pair in question shows up when the MCs go back to a time when humans had yet to be born.

"Neither angel had much of a personality, as such. Presumably that would come later, after centuries of interaction with Humanity."

"To stay would be contrary to our orders," said Gabriel. "And in many ways, we are our orders.

This is pretty close to what I have been taught about angels.

"I couldn't let her die because of something she hadn't done yet and might never do.... Making decisions like this is what Humanity is for."

There was a whole bit at the end about Good and Evil that I found really fun to read. It fit in nicely with my mood these days since I was also reading Plato and a Platypus Walk Into a Bar: Understanding Philosophy Through Jokes at that time.

What was just a teensy bit off-putting was the romance between John and Suzie Shooter.

Since I had done some snooping before, I did know that it was going to happen. It isn't that they don't make a good couple either. I guess it still managed to surprise me.

The trademark humor was a part of this book in the series too but it was still darker than the previous ones. A favorite scene with the unflappable Cathy:

"Oh, Security!" said Cathy. A closet door I hadn't noticed before sprang open, and a huge and impressively hairy hand shot out of the closet and wrapped itself firmly around both the invading Eamonns. They struggled fiercely against the great gripping fingers, but with their arms pinned to their sides, they were both quite helpless. They shouted and cursed until I strolled over and gave them both a brisk warning slap round the back of the head. A thought struck me, and I looked back at Cathy.

"Can I ask what's on the other end of this thing's arm?" "I find it best not to ask questions like that," Cathy said, and I had to agree with her.

I did enjoy returning to Nightside. Can't wait to read the next one!

Wow!
A Dark & Stormy Knight - Suzie Quint

A Dark & Stormy Knight by Suzie Quint is a fantastic read.  Georgia and Sol's story is such a fun read, mainly due to not knowing what Georgia will do next.  This well written story wove together lovable characters, drama, humor and sizzling sexy bits into a book worth reading.  I have to say, Sol is my favorite character for being so persistent and not giving up.  I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Suzie Quint in the future.  A Dark & Stormy Knight is book 3 in the McKnight Romance Series, but can be read as a standalone.  This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
