Blind Date Bet
Blind Date Bet - Nicole Flockton

Title : Blind Date Bet

Series :Man's Best Friend #1

Author: Nicole Flockton

Genre: romance

Pages:232

Netgalley

Publishers: Tule Publishing

Book synopsis:

Never say never…

After loving and losing a soldier once, Isabella Knowles made a vow: No more military men. She’s rebuilt her life and has a classroom full of fifth graders to love, which is more than enough even though her father doesn’t agree. When he sets her up on a blind date, she only goes to humor him -- never dreaming that the man she meets will tempt her to break her one rule.

In theory, Ethan Masters is not opposed to the wife, kids and house with a white picket fence. But he loves his career as a K-9 handler in the air force, and a dream promotion dangles before him like dog tags. While contemplating his future, he accepts a drunken bet for a blind date, never dreaming that the captivating woman fits perfectly into his ideal, all-American dream. Only one problem. She's gun-shy about all things military.

Can Ethan prove to Isabella love is worth the risk

My thoughts

rating: 3.5

Would I recommend this series : yes

Would I read anything else by this author: yes

A slow going romance , which is once again a nice change of pace , but still a good one to read, Loved how Isabella and Ethan first meet and their first date ,but there was times I just couldn't stand Isabella at all , it was like one minute she was hot for Ethan then she was cold, and there was times it was like she couldn't even make up her mind.Another thing I didn't like was how we didn't see Ethan doing his job , or even his dog Sam ,over all its a good story just to get lost in . With that said I want to thank Netgalley for letting me read it and review it exchange for my honest opinion

Mixed Feelings
Blind Date Bet - Nicole Flockton

Isabella heard an alarm the second she walked out of the clothes store. The assistant told her the mall was being evacuated. She noticed the crowd was thinning than she heard what sounded like a child crying. Isabella worked her way back in. Then she was stopped by a man and said she was a fifth grade school teacher missing one of her students. Than she saw a little boy who looked to be in second grade. The man again told her to leave. That people trained in this type of situation would take care of the boy.  She finally listened and left. It looked to be a serious situation and he had probably done her a favor. Ethan needed his head examined, sober he never would have agreed to a blind date, not after the time Linc had talked him into meeting kathy Birdland. A disaster the moment she opened her mouth . what he needed to do now was swear off tequila shots. They led him to wearing a red fedora so school teacher Isabella Knowles would recognize him. Linc assured him Isabella was hot. Sam was Ethan’s k-nine partner at work. Ethan was in the Air Force. He’d left her on the base to enjoy her weekend. Something pinged in his memory like he’d met her before but he couldn’t remember where. In his job Ethan needed to make quick study of his surroundings and people . even the most innocent person or object could have a bomb hidden on them. Ethan could use with a little distraction while he was stateside and for once Linc didn’t lie. He wasn’t a player like Linc. It had been a long time had anything resembling a serious relationship. He wanted to settle down, have a wife, house , and kids. He just had to find the right woman who wanted the same future. Most of Ethan’s family had been in the military. Ethan knew he'd be a career military man. Than Ethan remembered the woman in the mall the day of the bomb scare. He wondered should he go or stay. But he wasn’t one to bail on a date. Isabella recognized him and started to argue but her face turned white and she looked like she seen a ghost and got up to leave saying “ Sorry Ethan”. Ethan was military. She recognized the buzz cut he wore anywhere. In fact she had seen it on her dad all her life. The style brought back so many painful memories. What a dumb idea to go on a blind date her dad had set up. Memories she’d buried roared to life. Memories of another time and military person who had brought her happiness. Memories of when that was ripped away and she was lost in her pain.  Isabella had married her H S sweetheart Travis when she was eighteen. He had enlisted. He had been killed not long after in a freak training accident. She swore than never to get involved with another enlisted man no matter how attracted she was to him. Meredith had been isabella’s friend since college Both of them had started college later than normal due to circumstances beyond their control they connected their first class they had taken together. They both had traumatic events in their pasts- Meredith had lost her parents in a car accident when she was young. So when one of them was down, the other knew how to bring them out of their funk. Her father had dared isabella to call ethan and make a another date with him. Knowing what she had went through with one man who had been in the military. She did end up calling Ethan and they were to meet at Casa Del Sanchez. Isabella made Ethan think of things he hadn’t thought of in long time. Ethan hoped this date was a success. Ethan believed that people could fall in love in a couple of days as his father had seen his mom and said that was it for him and his mom said the same thing. Isabella had fried Ethan’s senses quicker than an egg on a hot plate.

I had mixed feelings about this book. I did like how kind and patient Ethan was. But it was hard to like Isabella with how one minute she pulled Ethan to her and the next she pushed him away. If you can’t deal with him being in the military than let him go for good. I understand her past but she can either handle his career or she couldn’t she wasn’t a child. At times this book seemed a little rushed to me. I did like the premise of the plot though. I would have liked to seen Sam the dog more in this book as she was a large part of Ethan’s life. I  took me awhile to get through this - longer than it should have. I did like seeing the growth of the relationship between Isabella and her father. I did chuckle at times and choked up at others while reading this book. So as you can tell I had mixed feelings about this book.

Guarding Suzie Excerpt © Nicole Flockton 2018
A red-hot, searing pain pierced Ryan ‘Joker’ Smith’s leg.
“Fuck.” His left leg buckled beneath him. Before he could face plant into the mud an arm banded around his waist and pulled him upright.
“I got you, man. Can you walk?” yelled Greg ‘Cowboy’ Robertson, both of them ducking as another round of shots were fired in their direction.
Ryan gripped his left thigh. “Yeah.” Even if he couldn’t there was no way he’d let his teammate know.
Cowboy nodded. “We’ll get to cover and then we can check out your injury.”
Gritting his teeth Ryan shifted most of his weight to his right leg and, with Cowboy’s help, they made their way to a grove trees.
“Sitrep.” Robot’s voice came over the coms.
“Joker’s hit,” Cowboy responded to their leader. “We’re heading to the trees ten clicks west from our last check in. Will give update when we can.’
“Roger, that.’
A few seconds later they were covered by trees and Ryan collapsed on the ground. “Shit, this burns like a fucker.”
Cowboy slapped his pack down on the ground next to him and pulled out his first aid kit. “This is gonna burn even more.”
Ryan knew what exactly was going to happen next. “Tell me something I don’t already know. Where are the other guys?”
“Who the fuck knows. Now get ready.”
Cowboy ripped the QuikClot pack and poured the contents over his bullet wound. Ryan bit back a groan at the sting of the powder. He breathed through it, when what he really wanted to do was curse up a blue streak. He knew the QuikClot was only a temporary measure, but it would be enough to get him through until they were able to get safely out of the hellhole they were in.
He closed his eyes and rested his back against the tree trunk, waiting until the burn died down to a more manageable pain level.
“You okay?”
He grunted in response to Cowboy’s question. He knew the bullet hadn’t gone through. It was still lodged in his thigh which meant he had surgery in his future. Thinking about surgery reminded him of the night he’d spent with the hot nurse he’d met when the team had taken his teammate, Italy’s, woman, Erin, to hospital after her kidnapping. Behind his closed eyes, a vision slammed his brain, the hot nurse, her hair spread across the pillow, her mouth open groaning out her release, as they climaxed together.
It had been one night three months ago. They’d agreed on the one night. No numbers had been exchanged, but sometimes he thought about her. More than he’d thought about any of his other hook-ups. Ryan refused to acknowledge that he hadn’t even thought about sleeping with another woman since that night.

Sensuality Level: Sensual

White Knight is a magical beginning to a new Camelot Rising series. It is full of strong, fascinating characters that reach and grab readers’ attention and holds them hostage until the very end.

Sasha and Derek are star crossed soul mates that’s relationship is way past due and their chemistry is off the charts electrifying. They draw readers into this magical story with rocky romance that is in no way clear cut and keeps readers in suspense until the very end.

The plot is fast paced and keeps suspense building throughout with twists and turns that ensures readers are kept guessing and the magical elements add spice and a sense of wonder to the story.

The authors has a created a fascinating world that combines elements of the  King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table legend and fairy tale elements along with unique elements that make the story charming and appealing. I will admit that at first, I wasn’t so sure about this book, but it quickly ensnared me and I had to know how the story played out and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the Camelot Rising series.

Guarding Erin Excerpt © Nicole Flockton 2017
Exhaustion bit at her heels. It had been a shit of a day. A computer software problem had all their reservations jumbled up tighter than a pair of stockings in a washing machine. The last thing she wanted to do was go to dinner, but she really needed a girl’s night.
She turned the light off and closed her office door. At the end of each day a sense of pride filled her with all she’d accomplished in the past four years. Hard work and determination had gotten her to the position of General Manager quicker than she ever imagined possible.
Before she left, she stopped at the registration desk. “If any issues crop up overnight, call me. No matter what the time.”
The clerk smiled. “Certainly, Erin. Hopefully, I won’t have to. Have a good night.”
“Thanks.” Secretly, Erin prayed her phone wouldn’t ring. After dinner she planned to go home and fall into bed. Between the stress of Bryan turning up in her life again, and today’s work drama, a solid eight hours of sleep sounded like an unreachable dream.
She skipped down the stairs, glad to be outside and absorbed everything that made New York, New York. The sounds of taxi drivers sitting on their horns, the aroma coming from the hotdog stand on the corner, the flow of people streaming out of the subway stations.
“Hello, Erin.”
Shocked at hearing Carlos’s voice, her foot slipped and she missed the bottom step. Instead of finding herself kissing the sidewalk, warm, strong arms closed around her. Without thinking, she laid her head on Carlos’s chest. She breathed deeply and the aroma of hotdogs was replaced with a tangy citrus smell that was intoxicating. She inhaled again.
He chuckled. “Did you just smell me?”
Erin came to her senses and pulled away from him. Surprise made way for embarrassment. “What are you doing here?”
If she thought her terseness would put him off, she was living in a fantasy world. Instead of putting distance between them, he grabbed her hand again.
“I got your text message and I was worried.”
“What text message?” Confusion colored her thoughts. She knew she’d sent him a text last night, but she hadn’t asked him to travel up to New York to see her. She expected him to call.
His hand went to his pocket and pulled out the phone, all the while he maintained his hold on her. Her skin sizzled from the connection, drawing her back to the first time they’d kissed when they’d been sixteen. At the time, she’d thought her reaction to his touches and kisses had been because he was her first boyfriend. A crush that had turned into juvenile love. Now she had to wonder.
After the first couple of dates with Bryan, her body had never flared to life like hers was doing right now. They were only holding hands for goodness sake.
“This message.” A phone was shoved under her nose.
“I didn’t send ...” She re-read the message and then it hit her. This was the message she’d started to send to him while on the subway and then she’d had second thoughts. “I, um, I didn’t mean to send it to you.”
“Right. Who were you sending it to.”
She could fabricate that she was sending it to a friend. Somehow she didn’t think he would buy it. “You.”
“But?”
“Well you didn’t respond to my message last night and then I didn’t know what to say.”
Everything she’d told him was the truth. The only problem was she still didn’t know what to say to him. For a brief second on the train she’d wanted to ask him for his help with Bryan. She’d helped him, he could help her. But could she ask that of him though?
“I was out last night, and didn’t see your message until I checked my phone this morning.”
“Uh huh. Well,” she looked at their connected hands and then at the crowd bustling around them. “I’ve got plans, so I’d better get going. Good seeing you, Carlos.”
She went to pull her hand out of his grip, but he tightened his hold on her.
“What’s going on, E? And don’t tell me nothing. I know you. I can see the tension in you.”
Anger rippled through her and she yanked her hand out of his grip. “You don’t know me at all now. You were the one who walked away from me. From us. And yes, I’m tense. After the shit day I had, you’d be tense as well. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’ve got places to be. Real friends to catch up with. Goodbye, Carlos.”
