Biting Holiday Honeymoons (Biting Love Short Bites Book 1) by Mary Hughes
Biting Holiday Honeymoons - Mary Hughes

Biting Holiday Honeymoons (Biting Love Short Bites Book 1) by Mary Hughes has two short stories.

Biting Halloween is about Elena and Bo's honeymoon being interrupted by vampires. I gave it four stars.

"Then he turned and saw me. Our eyes met.

"An ice-cold shiver ran down my neck. Dracula's ruby eyes were dead. Not blank but ghastly, as if the imps of hell danced in his brain. This guy could kill me like I'd kill a mosquito. No, not even with that much emotion. He'd kill me like he'd pull the wings off a fly.

"Death walked skeletal fingers down my spine. I didn't scare easily but at that I slid off Bo's back and ran away."

Biting Christmas turns nasty when a vamp Santa turns up. It derails another honeymoon. Written with humor and heat. I'm glad it had a glossary for Nixie's slang.

I received a complimentary copy from Amazon. That did not change my opinion for this review.

Review: Downbeat (Biting Love #7) Mary Hughes
Downbeat - Mary Hughes

Dragan Zajiek walled off his heart long ago, but while investigating rumors of a monstrous, undefeatable vampire dubbed the Soul Stealer he’s mesmerized by the lovely, unassuming Raquel “Rocky” Hrbek in this exciting paranormal romance. Another delightfully exciting Biting Love story that not only had me in stitches but biting my nails as well and I have to tell you that the author uses some unorthodox elements in the fight against the bad guy that really adds some chuckles to the story and delighted me to no end.

Biting Bad (Chicagoland Vampires #8) by Chloe Neill

Merit has been a vampire for only a short while, but she's already seen a lifetime's worth of trouble. She and her Master, centuries-old Ethan Sullivan, have risked their lives time and again to save the city they love. But not all of Chicago is loving them back.

Anti-vampire riots are erupting all over town, striking vampires where it hurts the most. A splinter group armed with Molotov cocktails and deep-seated hate is intent on clearing the fanged from the Windy City come hell or high water.

Merit and her allies rush to figure out who's behind the attacks, who will be targeted next, and whether there's any way to stop the wanton destruction. The battle for Chicago is just beginning, and Merit is running out of time.

my though

I’m glad I didn’t give up on the books after the whole gnome deal, it got much better again.

This book I liked very much from the beginning and reminded me much if the earlier books and why I liked the series so much.

There is like in most of the books a lot of things happening, multiple things at once and Merit and the gang of course gets stuck trying to figure out who it is.

We still have the PG in plan and of course even though there are no longer part of them the GP has its mind set to destroy the house. Things get ugly and heads roll.

McKetrick is still enemy No1 and is doing also his best to rid the world of vampire, but unless they can proof his involvement in any of it he is a free man and has plenty of time to work against him. That he is smart doesn’t help the house any.

But some new things about him come to light.

Meanwhile, riots are taking place all over Chicago and it seems they are aimed at vampires and companies that support them. After they Grey house gets hit, Cadogan gives them shelter and aid. It gets rather crowded in the Cadogan House for a while.

We get lots of action and plot twists in this book and a lot of answers. People we love and grown care for get injured in this book.  Merit comes to face a questions she never thought she would have to but in the end she makes her choice.

Mallory, is still with the pack and doing “her time”, but things starting to get back to normal and they must thing about what to do with her once she is done with the pack.  I’m still not so sure of her but I give her the befit of the doubt and she seems to be doing everything in her power to make things right. Catcher, seems to be handling it better now and has come to a new routine with her as well. They building their relationship back up.

The one who surprised me the most in this book was Ethan. While I was never really sure of him and had a hate/love relationship with him I really enjoyed him in this book. He seemed sweet and romantic, and he kicked butt. And dare I say he was even funny and sarcastic at times.  I really like this new Ethan so far and hope he stays that way.

We also get more of Jonah and the RG, I really like him and hope he is staying in the books. I’m curious to see how the RG all turns out and if we get to see more of them and meet more of the other members.

We don’t see much of the pack in this book and I kind of missed the Keene Family a little. But we still get to see Jeff a lot since he is always there to safe Merit’s butt.

Also, Merit’s dad is up to something but what he really wants is still up in the air, time and future books will tell…. I hope

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it was exciting, suspenseful, humor and romance all well balanced in this fast paced book.

I rate it at 4 ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“It was a chef’s knife,” I said, holding my hands about a foot apart. “And a very large one.”

“That’s what she said,” Ethan murmured.”

***

“It’s your job to be worried,” I said lightly, squeezing his hand. “That’s why we pay you the big bucks. Which you are apparently going to hand over to the NAC in order to keep that car in the garage.” “Never fear, Sentinel. I will still be able to keep you in bacon.” “Damn right,” I said. “You know your priorities.” Ethan rolled his eyes and slapped me on the butt.”

***

“Because sometimes women cry when there’s good news. Tears of relief. You know, catharsis.” His expression was utterly blank. “Haven’t you ever cried when you, I don’t know, you get a new batch of that fancy stationery you like with the watermarks on it?” He looked bewildered. “That’s what you think I’d cry tears of relief about?” “You do like your office supplies.”

***

“I had a sense of your passion when we met, Merit. When you first stormed into my House with fire in your eyes.” “That wasn’t fire. That was sheer, unmitigated fury.”

Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires #6) by Chloe Neill
Biting Cold - Chloe Neill

Turned into a vampire against her will, twenty-eight-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago’s vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye—and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing—among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he’ll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

3 ½ ★

OMG, I don’t even know where to start with this book. There was so much going on and let me just say not everything was good or made sense. Okay let’s just with the thing that bothered me the most. GNOMES, yes you heard that right honest to god freaking gnomes! With all the other mythical creatures that could have come into that story she chose gnomes. WTF!!! There are like hundreds of other things she could have chosen, that would have made way more freaking sense than gnomes. Honestly, when I read that I felt punk’ed and even put the book down for a few hours if not a day before I could see what else she came up with. Once I got over the part with the gnomes ( I hate saying or thinking about them) , the book got better. I liked it way more than the last book that is for sure. Anyways, so Ethan is back and he turned into a giant Asshole, but that is not just him there is much more to it. But I don’t think that should excuse his behavior at all. It is the typical ‘I want to be with you’ but a minute later ‘I don’t want to be with you’ Ethan. I swear he is Bi-polar. But what I did like was that he did in the end stand for the house, his house and really didn’t care about the GP or what they have to say more or less. Talking about the GP, they are still trying to destroy the house and doing everything they can, it is not clear whether they succeed or not even at the end of the book. Kind of wish that all would be done and over with. Merit, seems to be a her normal self again more or less, even though she had plenty of stuff to deal with, Ethan , Mallory , the GP and the RG (Red Guard). Plus this new thread, well more like a new/old threat. I really wish she would stop making excuse for Ethan though and stop whining and just kick his ass into next week. I was glad to see that she did make a decision about the RG though and didn’t care what others and or Ethan would think. Malory, is causing all kinds of trouble and needs to be stopped but in the process of that Tate, comes back into the picture and now is twice the trouble. They finally figure out what or who he is. I don’t; want to spoil it for anyone so I won’t say much about him. And to be honest I wasn’t quite sure what to think of it in the end how it all played out. I really liked Luc and Lindsey in this book again and wish we could get more of them. The same goes for Jeff. But he had his great and awesome hero moment in this book, so that was great. Also would live if we get more Jonah, I really like him, so far even better then Ethan. I did enjoy that all the sups had to work together in the end to stop this threat that can destroy not only a lot of people but also the entire city and much much more. Overall, I liked this book much better than the last, like I said but I also was a little on the fence yet. I’m looking forward to see how it all will continue and hope it will get better again. One thing is for sure, things will not be same anymore for any of the sups and or our vampires. I rate it at 3 ½ ★

Some of my favorite quotes:

“Like an angel of justice taking them down with his giant sword of righteousness?”

“That sounds like the tagline for a bad porn flick.”

***

“Girl, you’re the Sentinel of this House, and you’ve been trained by Catcher and Luc and Ethan. He’s in the training room right now. Get down there and kick his ass!”

***

“That’s tough. Anything I can do?” “Just stay in play as my backup.” I nearly swerved the car off the road. “I’m sorry—your backup?” “You know, in case it doesn’t work out with Fallon.” “And what about Ethan?” Jeff chuckled. “I just figured he was your backup for me.”

***

“The moral of the story? Don’t fuck with the magical order.”

***

“Morgan threw tantrums that would impress a two-year-old.”
