From Sallie, the bull terrier who served in the Civil War, to Lucca, a German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix who sniffed out IEDs during the War on Terror, this illuminating work of nonfiction provides short but incisive accounts of some of the most incredible and patriotic canines involved in war efforts. These dogs served in various branches of the military—even the Navy—and encompass a variety of breeds, shattering stereotypes. Each chapter focuses on a specific dog and how he or she came to be in the military in the first place; many times, especially during the earlier wars, this happened coincidentally but paved the way for canine troops to come. The stories are fascinating, heartwarming, and yes, at times sad. Because they are true, there is not always a happily-ever-after ending, but this emphasizes the realities and vagaries of life. Working dogs hold a special place in my heart, and acknowledging their service and sacrifice allows us to properly honor them and to work toward ensuring that when their duty is done, they can live out the rest of their life in peace and well-being.

Fire Away is a great read but it could use some development work as far as relationships and character history and research but I enjoyed the potential the story had to really be a five star read. I loved the whole coming home again kind of story because it makes a character face past and present ghosts and go through a change. The real impact of that change wasn't as strong as I'd hoped it would be but I still enjoyed the ending and the journey.

I really REALLY loved this book! I felt everything - and I was rooting for this couple all along. Such a great story with a terrific HEA! Good group of characters to root for. I absolutely enjoyed every page!

The pretty, Delaney Murphy is the product of a cheating/abusive husband and a verbally abusive mother. How was she to believe she was a beautiful person inside and out if the two people she loved most only beat her down? So, the shy uncertain Delaney is free to discover who she really is.

Neck breakingly tall Beck is just the man to help with all these new discoveries that Delaney is about to make. Beck Townsend is an ex Marine, handsome, tall and possibly every woman's dream, has been keeping his eye on Delaney . He hopes that she is the answer to his prayers, his dream of finding love and being accepted for who he is.

The characters in this tale were well developed and I would like to get to know more about the secondary characters. Especially, the other members of Beck's group. The story as a whole seems to have something missing. It seems that that the entire story missed some spark or some type of zap something ... something that would draw you further in.
