In one future Addie is living with her mom in the life she's always known and is being pursued by the most popular guy in school. In the other she is the new girl in school, where she falls for a cute, quiet artist. Then Addie finds herself drawn into a murder investigation, and her fate takes a darker turn.

This was a pretty average book until the ending hit. And the ending was immensely well crafted and heartwrenching and ohmygoodness I can't even.

My biggest issue with this book was the premise, which was also this book's biggest boon. Addie has the power to see future outcomes of various choices she makes, but

she has to live all the way through the consequences to figure out which she wants, meaning that if it's a life altering decision, she'll possibly be living multiple lives. The author didn't explore how this could affect Addie; I feel like she'd be more mature or more life weary as in a way she could live various lives, which would almost leave her immortal in a way or with way too many memories. It's a fascinating premise, but it wasn't explored at all which was disappointing to me.

I thought that, given her power, the choice her parents initially forced her to make was completely unfair, and I was surprised that she just took this and decided to look into the future.

The plot got very complicated and due to the supernatural aspects it could be challenging to figure out what exactly was happening, but the general line and eventual choice was strong and fascinating to read.

The ending was absolutely fantastic and incredibly well planned. I was really pleasantly surprised by how awfully neatly everything came together.

I did enjoy how characters in both lives appeared and how they kept their personalities, but I found it so hard to suspend my disbelief and envision how Addie's old school would just happen to be in the same football league as her new school. If her dad really wanted to escape this world, why wouldn't he go to an entirely new place?

I don't know about this one. I did enjoy it, but it left me wanting more details and more explanations.

Review:

I've been so MIA with reviews lately, college and work are taking over my life! But I've finally read Pivot Point by Kasie West and although I wasn't the biggest fan of some of her stand alone books this book completely made me a fan of hers!

I loved the world of a secret society with mind powers and how the two paths ran parallel to each other so we could see the connections throughout and got two stories in one. I liked that Kasie labelled her chapters so we knew which path we were reading about without having to flick back and check. I absolutely loved Trevor, their relationship wasn't insta love as they became friends first which I appreciated and he took finding out about Addie's abilities and about her community really well, but I guess it helped that he reads comics haha :P

However, I didn't really like the ending.....*spoiler* I dunno it just didn't make sense to me as we didn't get an explanation as to why Bobby wanted al these powers (besides assuming the obvious of him wanting to be the most powerful that we usually see in villians) and although we knew he was a creep from the start it was only Addie who knew this because of her ability, why didn't anyone else pick up on it? I know Kasie was going for the shock factor but it would have been a much better story progression if Poison had been the killer as although he would have been the obvious choice, because we didn't get to know his character or see any redeeming qualities in him, it just seemed the logical choice.

I still really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would and can't wait to pick up the sequel as I'm excited to find out what happens next!

What a cool way to write a story. I thoroughly enjoyed Pivot Point and the way it was written - two different futures. Interested to see where the story goes. 

Addison has a life changing moment when her parents tell her their getting a divorce. She's forced to choose between living with her dad outside the compound or living with her mom within. To help her decide she uses her powers and Searches into the future. 

The two different futures are interesting to read about but I definitely enjoyed reading one side more than the other. Duke, Laila and Trevor are all great side characters. Pivot Point is an easy book to recommend because while it does have Dystopian type elements it holds close to a contemporary story as well. Can't wait to read the next one in this series! 

This book was INSANELY good! I honestly was not expecting to love it as much as I did. I could not put it down; to the point that I've had the third Mara Dyer book in my possession for over 24 hours and am only about 20 pages in. I cannot read multiple books at once. No matter how often I try, I just cannot do it. And I don't like to.

That said, I was COMPLETELY willing to put this book on hold and come back to it after finishing The Retribution of Mara Dyer. But I couldn't do it. I had to know what was going to happen next.

This story is about a girl named Addie who lives within a secret compound along with thousands of other people who have advanced mental abilities. She can see her future, but only in the sense of choosing between two different choices (i.e. her parents get divorced and she needs to choose one with whom she will live, and so she looks into each of the two possible futures for a duration of 6 weeks to enable her to make this choice.) And that is the book.

I LOVED that each chapter was alternating between the two futures. I'm glad it wasn't one side straight through to the end, and then the other side. I'm not crazy about love triangles. But you had to know while reading that there was more to one of the two guys than met the eye. So I was pretty happy with how that all played out. I was saddened by the choice that Addie had to make in the end, but it was completely understandable.

I loved this book. I loved the end. I loved the epilogue. I really don't see the need for another book, so I'm kind of sad that there is one. I wish sometimes that authors could leave their conclusions the way Kasie West did in this book without feeling the need to add to the story. There is nothing wrong with leaving a somewhat open, yet optimistic, conclusion to a story. It can actually be rather refreshing.

However, I will obviously be reading Split Second and I'm sure I will enjoy that one also.
