Under Your Skin (A For Your Love Novel) - Shannyn Schroeder

Norah O'Malley was pregnant and had not told Avery. Her older brother Jimmy tried to get her to tell him Avery and she knew she had to. But Avery would want to take care of her. She had only been with Avery a short time but it had been magical. Norah ahdn’t lived home in ten years. Jimmy had shipped her to her aunt Bridget’s when she was twelve and he went into the army. Kai owned the tattoo parlor Tommy- Norah’s brother- worked at. He had been in a gang and had been to the hospital a lot visiting injured friends. He had horrible memories. But Kai came to see his mother at the hospital because Jaleesa insisted . Jaleesa- Kai’s sister - was the only person who had been on his side no matter what. She was the only person to visit Kai in jail. She had even pusher her husband to lend Kai the money to open Ink Envy. Kai ends up bringing his mother to his house to recover from her knee surgery and he hires Norah to help while Kai is working. Norah is studying to be a nurse so situation was perfect. Norah also has to decide what to do about the baby. Lani - Kai’s mother- become friends. There is also an attraction between Norah and Kai. Norah decided to pursue Kai and he wasn’t sure what to do about her. Norah makes a hard decision but decides the best thing she can do for her child is let her be adopted. I wasn’t too impressed with this story. Norah should be worried about her baby not another man. She hasn’t even told the baby’s father she is pregnant or he is going to be a dad. But she is into going after Kai and he didn’t really seem to want her. Almost forcing herself on him. Maybe Avery would want his child rather than see her adopted. I did like how Norah wanted to protect Avery from her brothers. But did either Avery or Norah worry about using protection hence pregnancy. She was old enough to know better. Norah was an immature and thoughtless young woman and I wasn’t crazy Norah was crazy about Kai yet he seemed cold and didn’t really want to deal with anyone or anything. Anyway I just didn’t really enjoy this story.

Under Your Skin (For Your Love #1) by Shannyn Schroeder
Under Your Skin (A For Your Love Novel) - Shannyn Schroeder
This book is the first in a spin-off series, although I have never read any of the books in the other series it did not have any impact that I am aware of for this story.

We start off with Norah, a twenty-two year old who is seven months pregnant. This was not planned, and in fact, the father still knows nothing about it. Her family are giving her grief over her not telling them who the father is, but as he doesn't know yet, she doesn't want them to beat him up for something that took two to make!

Kai is an ex-con who has managed to leave that life behind him and has opened up a tattoo shop. He has made himself quite a reputation and life is good. He is very strict about having boundaries, and does not like it when one part of his life crosses over to other parts.

These two first meet when Norah visits Kai's shop, where her brother works. Then she gets hired by Kai to look after his mom whilst she recovers from a knee operation.

There is lots that goes on in this book - you have Kai's past and present that he is dealing with, Norah has to deal with her pregnancy, the father, and then decides she wants Kai too. Although it was good to see a woman go after what she wants, it seemed a bit much and full of drama at parts.

Well written, with no editing or grammatical errors that I saw, this is a contemporary romance that some people with thoroughly enjoy, whilst others don't. Perhaps it would be best to read the O'Leary series first, to get an idea of the author's style of writing. I don't know. I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to all fans of contemporary romance.

* I received this book from NetGalley in return for a fair and honest review. *

Good Story and Characters
His Dream Role (Hot & Nerdy Book 6) - Shannyn Schroeder

Free sucked at asking girls out and had not been on a date since Kim broke up with him.Samantha/ Sam was at the coffee shop Free went to. She couldn’t find her money and Free paid for her coffee as well as his own. Sam volunteered at a shelter and went to school. Her parents had money but not her. Sam felt her life was unsettled. Free wore costumes when he went to the gym with his brother Cary to take the attention off his brother so Cary would go to the gym in his overweight state. Free’s father wants Free to become an investment lawyer like he was. That is what Free is planning on doing with his life. But he also loves acting. Sam likes Free’s quirkiness and really thinks it’s sweet when she finds out he dresses up for his brother and why. But she is not too happy when she learns of his future plans. She wants to be a social worker. The center she volunteers at is for women and children of domestic abuse.

I liked this story , it was really sweet especially how Free cares for his family as does Sam. I think Free likes studying to become an investment banker and he is good at it. But he can still enjoy acting in his spare time. Anyway I liked the characters especially Free and Sam and all the ups and downs they go through. I recommend

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Book Blitz - HIS DREAM ROLE
<!--more-->

His Dream Role (Hot & Nerdy #5)
by Shannyn Schroeder
Release Date: December 22nd 2015
Lyrical Press

Summary:

Free Mitchell loves the theater. In his dreams he’s the one taking the spotlight. But so far he’s played against character by following in his father’s footsteps as an investment banker. When he’s masquerading as Dr. Who or Sherlock Holmes to help his brother, he feels he can escape his shy, dorky persona. But nothing’s prepared him to play boyfriend to a gorgeous girl like Samantha Wolf.

Samantha isn’t quite sure what to think of Free. He’s cute, sweet, and quirky, but his outlandish costumes make him seem crazy. However, it turns out Sam has a soft spot for theater nerds. And the more time they spend together, the more their steamy romance begins to take center stage. Only problem is, there doesn’t seem to be a script. And it’s anyone’s guess how this one will end.

Excerpt #4

He strode into the kitchen with his jacket open. He, too, wore a T-shirt with his jeans. His dark blue T-shirt read Hermits Unite! in white letters.

“Interesting shirt. Are you sure it’s all right to leave your cave to be out in public?”

He ran a hand over the front of his shirt. “Uh, it’s another Doctor Who reference.”

She smiled at that. Even not in costume, he wore his geekhood. “Speaking of which, I watched a few episodes of the tenth doctor. You were quoting him.”

“Huh?”

“When we talked about books. You said something like books are the best weapons. I thought it was cool at the time, but then I learned you stole the line from Doctor Who.”

He blushed but took a step closer to her. “I tend to do that—use lines from the character I’m portraying. It’s the actor in me.”

“Is that all?”

“No. It also makes things easier when I’m nervous. If I use someone else’s words, I won’t embarrass myself.”

“Interesting tactic. I might have to give it a try.”

He laughed. “You? I can’t imagine you ever get nervous.”

“Maybe I’m a better actor than you are.” The air between them filled with tension, but it was good. She drew nearer to him. “For instance, I’m extremely nervous right now.”

“Why?” His voice had dropped to a lower register, and it was sexy as hell.

“Because I want tonight to be good, and first dates tend to suck.”

“I’ll do my level best to make sure it doesn’t.”

She stood close enough that she watched his pulse thump in his neck. She had the urge to kiss him to see if his pulse would spike, but part of her feared it would scare him away.

She licked her lips, tasting her strawberry gloss, and asked, “Ready to go?”

He stepped back and swept out an arm. “As you wish.”

She pointed at him. “I know that one. Princess Bride, right?”

“Very good.”

“You won’t need quotes tonight. You already got me on a date. No need to be nervous.” She reached into the closet and tugged her coat off a hanger.

“Easier said than done.”

“I always thought that for a guy, asking was the hardest part.”

“True, it only takes about twenty seconds of insane courage.”

“Ha! I know that one too. We Bought a Zoo. Don’t you think it’s a little weird that you can pull out quotes throughout a conversation like it’s nothing?”

He took her coat and held it open for her to slide into. “We’re all pretty bizarre. Some of us are just better at hiding it, that’s all.”

She turned, still standing close enough to brush against him as she pulled her coat closed. She stared and tried to decide whether that was another quote.

He slowly slid his hands under her hair and freed it where it had been trapped under her collar. In doing so, he was even closer. She smelled his cologne and wanted to bury her nose in his neck. His thumbs caressed her neck and he leaned close to her ear. “The Breakfast Club.”

His breath on her ear sent a zing through her body. Something about his quiet mannerisms made her want to rub up against him.
