Smokin’ thunderbolts, this urban fantasy story has some serious energy and gripping emotions that flow from every page of this powerful read. The events of this story has the rogue scions and a gang of water scions reluctantly joining together to achieve Zeus’ command but there is no trust between the two groups and it is obvious that there are some dirty, underhanded tricks up the water scions sleeves. Somehow, during all of this excitement, there is some romance blossoming with the group of rogue scions, so those flirty but unsure emotions are mixing in with all the other potent emotions that flow the pages.

Although the story does have a disturbing and OMG cliffhanger ending, there is never a dull moment to be found. This complex and fast paced plot has so many twists and turns that readers have to borrow Hermes’ sandals to keep up as it is full of stunning surprises, frightful prophecies, blood and guts, deadly decisions and exhilarating danger that has readers’ knees bounding up and down in giddy, adrenaline pumping excitement.

The newest book in the Flame series is a sensational and exhilarating read that keeps readers glued to the pages as the hero and heroine go up against a vicious and evil alpha. Davis and Natalie are strong, charismatic characters that take Five Bridges by storm with fiery chemistry and amazing gifts. The attraction may be undeniable but this hero and heroine both have some issues left over by the past that directly impact the way this relationship progresses which has quite a bit of emotional turmoil flowing from the pages. Both Davis and Natalie are take charge characters that really complement each other and make this story strong and a satisfying.

The fast paced plot flows smoothly from beginning to end building the suspense and excitement up to epic proportions as the battle between Davis and Natalie and the alpha comes to a head. The story is full of adrenaline pumping events, surprising twists which keeps this readers from putting the book down on their own but add in some amazing twists and elements and this story becomes highly entertaining. The characters come up with some unique solutions to the problems they face and they make plenty of mistakes which makes the story realistic and the characters more lifelike. There is never a dull moment to be found during this complex, sensational and exhilarating read.

Thirty years ago, experiments in the U.S., with the powerful and addictive flame drugs, created five serums, called the alter serums. When taken with food or drink, these serums resulted in complete transformations of DNA.

Humans were no long human and, depending on which serum was taken, the individual involved became one of five alter creatures: Vampires, witches or warlocks, wolves, fae, or dead-talkers. Because of the violence inherent in the early alters — as they came to be known — anyone who underwent the horrifying transformation was sent to live in designation ghettos within the major cities.

Arizona’s ghetto, located in north Phoenix, became known as Five Bridges because of the large bridges that separated each of the warring alter territories. Barbed wire and thick, cement, prison-like walls formed a border between the U.S. and these ghettos. Any alter leaving Five Bridges without a passport, would be killed on sight. Powerful alters of each of the species serve as Border Patrol officers.

Illegal drugs became rampant within the alter world as well as a proliferation of sex clubs. Humans visited the ghettos every night to pay for experiences they couldn’t get in the U.S. proper. With a corrupt government, the rise of cartels, and the naturally violent state of the alter condition, chaos rules this world.

But in each territory, there are those extraordinary men and women, alters though they are, who fight every night of their lives to make Five Bridges a better place for all.

I confess I've had a love affaire with vampires for several years now, especially warrior vampires, the kind found in the books of Sherrilyn Kenyon, Lara Adrian and JR Ward. Though I've been published in Regency Romance under the pseudonym Valerie King--and yes one of my Regency Novellas features a vampire--one day I woke up knowing I had to create my own contemporary world of the warrior vampire.

For some mystical, magical reason, early in the process, my vampires appeared with enormous beautiful wings and it has been the most amazing experience to include flight in my novels, in both battle scenes and scenes involving spectacle. My special vampire world, published by St. Martin's Press, is introduced in the first book called, ASCENSION (12-28-2010). The second book, BURNING SKIES (May of 2011), opens up the world a little bit more. And even as I write this, I'm on the final draft of my third novel, WINGS OF FIRE (September of 2011). What a thrill it has been to live with my ascended vampires through the creation of this extraordinary, multi-dimensional world!

This new urban fantasy series is off to a great start with a host of strong, complex characters that easily fascinate readers from the very beginning. The brothers, Derek and Liam are intriguing, full of life and courageous males that blow readers away with their determination and ingenuity throughout the story. Derek is the older brother and the story seems focusing on him so far, but it obvious that Liam plays a strong part in every decision that Derek makes, so they make a great team and readers can practically feel the loyalty that flows between them. They certainly need that loyalty and their bond as they are up against the Greek Gods in a fantastic setting where the Gods have re-emerged from obscurity and determined to take back their Godships by force. The author brings the setting to life with descriptive words that create a modern setting with a little of a futuristic feel and readers can easily imagine the Gods and how they would rule their world which makes it very easy for the readers to become completely absorbed in the intense and exhilarating story. The plot is fast paced and flows smoothly from one thrilling event to the next with lots adrenaline pumping suspense that builds throughout the story. There is never a dull moment to be found as the story takes readers on a complicated adventure full of exciting battles, betrayals, emotional turmoil and an extreme sense of expectation as each of the twists and turns of the story depends on life altering decisions and the whims of the gods.
