Book Tour w/Review - The Real Thing

NEW RELEASE........
Fall in love on the shores of Sugar Lake in the small town of Sweetwater with Willow Dalton and Zane Walker.

This sassy, spirited baker is fine with heat—but is her fake fiancé too hot to handle?

Bakery owner Willow Dalton’s friendship with Zane Walker has always been a bit complicated. Now a scrumptiously hot A-list actor, Zane’s always had a reputation as player. He’s arrogant, and he’s definitely not boyfriend material. Sure, he did Willow a favor by agreeing to take her virginity before college, but is that reason enough to go along with a fake engagement a decade later—even if it comes with a real diamond ring?

Zane should have known better. Nothing involving Willow has ever been easy. Still, he knows her better than anyone, and becoming America’s hottest new leading man means cleaning up his reputation. An “engagement” to curvy, sass-mouthed Willow is the perfect PR move . . . provided no one gets hurt.

Now Zane and Willow’s little white lie has turned into an irresistible recipe for sweet temptation. And soon no one will be able to tell the difference between their fake engagement or the real thing—including them.

The Real Thing (Sugar Lake, #1)The Real Thing by Melissa Foster
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Willow & Zane are the best of friends. He just has no idea how she feels about him. They have some seriously hot history. Now he needs her to help him out.

Zane tricks Willow into being a part of a charade. Be fake-engaged to me? Sure, like it is hard to pretend to be crazy about a guy she is head over heels for.

This is such an achingly sweet story with a real sexy twist. I absolutely loved it! I feel like this is the author's best work so far. I am excited to read more from the new Sugar Lake series.

Releasing 5th December Only For You (Sugar Lake Book 2)
Love only works when your heart is in the right place. Hers could be right next door…

Single mom Bridgette Dalton doesn’t have time to stop and smell the roses—not even in her own flower shop. But that doesn’t mean she hasn’t noticed Bodhi Booker. Her ruggedly handsome next-door neighbor would be the perfect candidate for a no-strings fling. Having loved and lost, Bridgette’s not ready to hand over her heart…but she could use a distraction.

Bodhi has one rule: never leave anyone behind. As a special operative, he knows that each new mission is more dangerous than the last. He’s never made a promise of forever to a woman, not even to the beautiful widow who has him tied in knots. And if there were anyone who could tempt him into putting down roots, it would be Bridgette and her adorable son.

But as his next deployment nears, they make a startling discovery. Their passion, meant only for the here and now, might already be blossoming into something more…

Review: At Large by John W. Mefford
AT Large (An Alex Troutt Thriller, Book 2) - John W. Mefford
I was disappointed with how the story in At Bay unfolded as such I was a bit uncertain if should continue the series. However, I made up my mind to give At Large a chance and if there was no improvement then I would abandon the series. Now that I am at the end of this installment I have no regrets with my decision. For me this was a more entertaining, gripping and suspenseful read than its predecessor.

It picked up from where At Bay left off, however, it should be noted you don’t necessarily have to read them in order as it can be read as a stand-alone. However, if you are the type of reader who like things in order, then by all means you read At Bay before reading At Large.
It would appear that there is a new serial killer on the loose whose motive was revenge. Discovering the reason for these revenge murders made for a thrilling read. I was quickly reminded why I enjoyed reading John Mefford’s work.

I liked the main character. Alex Troutt is a tough as nails FBI agent who was not about to let memory loss or the murder of her husband get in the way of her investigation. She never had a chance to grieve the death of her husband before she found herself embroiled into another case. She is not the type to back down. It is evident that when she takes on a task, be it work or home related, she gives it her all, and this case was no different. She was determined to uncover who was behind these murders.

It is evident that the killer has some deep seated issues. A note of warning, if you are squeamish then this may not be for you as this story is graphic. The killer’s motive was evident, but what was not obvious was the reason for wanting revenge. Mr. Mefford has a knack for keeping his readers in suspense until the very end.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I am eager to find out if Alex will fully regain her memory. I am also keen to know what next the author has in store for his fans. If you enjoy thrillers and you are looking for something new to sink your teeth in, then the Alex Troutt series would be a good place to start.

One of those stories that keeps you shrouded in mystery throughout the entire book...
The Vineyard - Michael Hurley

I received a complimentary copy of The Vineyard by Michael Hurley as a member of Beck Valley Book Tours. All opinions are strictly my own.

The Vineyard by Michael Hurley is one of those stories that keeps you shrouded in mystery throughout the entire book. It starts out with a great tragedy of attempted suicide, diagnosis, troubled relationships and the mysterious "fisherman" who seems to be the only one able to find shrimp. And not just any shrimp, but these giant shrimp with the most succulent flavor.

We see three friends go through various heartaches but they never give up on each other. They love each other like sisters and it is that friendship and that bond that gets them through their most difficult trials.

For me, this story started out really great. Michael Hurley did a wonderful job showing us Charlotte's pain over the rejection from her church. Her thoughts about why and how she wants to end her life are very descriptive. We see Dory meet the fisherman and begin to learn more about faith and we see Turner go to any length to protect her best friends. But then it sort of started to drag a little in the middle only to be wrapped up really quickly in the end. I didn't feel like the ending really fit. There's a lot of sexual content that really doesn't need to be there. The story would have been perfectly fine without most of it. We do learn who the fisherman is. We learn his name and where he comes from and I could see that some of the events were being led up to, but from about 3/4 of the story it all just sort of became a jumble and I was left a bit confused.

I don't want to give away any spoilers but I will say that we didn't get to see enough of Turner and the fisherman after one HUGE turn of events. That is the moment that everything went awry and the story seemed to move to quickly for me, leaving out some important parts.

Overall, this was a really great story-line with lovable ladies that get under your skin and make you root for them to be happy. Dory's mom had some pivotal moments in Dory's life as well but the main story was about Dory, Turner and Charlotte (Charlie) as well as the fisherman and the choices they made over the course of one summer that drastically changed ALL their lives.

If you like mysteries, check out The Vineyard by Michael Hurley.

*NOTE: This story does contain adult language and sexual content. Just a warning in case that's not your cup of tea.
