MagnoVille...Just Shy of Being Awesome
Magno Girl - Joe Canzano

What I Thought:

The book was about a female superhero...but the book was not from the superhero's POV but the guy dating her!

Some of the jokes and situations were too funny and silly -- I loved them! -- but the jokes did get tiring at the end

All kinds of discrimination were made fun of and I liked how the author made us see the silliness when it comes to advertising, pregnancy etc. but the MCs continuously joked about the short stature of one of the villains.

The character of the teenage girl who became increasingly vapid was fun to read about but her curse was made into such a big deal and then it was solved just like that!

I enjoyed every conversation that Magno Girl had with her mother. They were all laugh out loud funny! It also made sense that Sandra would use the issues that Magno Girl had as a curse.

Legalman was my favorite character -- he would find a reason to sue you even if it killed him you!

I do not know what it was but I kept wanting to put the book away and could not gobble it in one go. I kept wanting to enjoy it and get hooked but that didn't happen. That is why, I am rating it 2.5 rather than 3 stars. However, if you want to try something unusual and funny, Magno Girl is a good idea!

Bad Boy Good Man - Jenny Trout (writing as Abigail Barnette)
Bad Boy Good Man - Abigail Barnette,Jenny Trout

Genre: Erotic Romance
Published 16 March 2015 by Jenny Trout
Number of pages: 59

My rating: ★ ★ ★ ★  I really liked it

"Newly independent real-life adult Ellie McCormack loves everything about her first apartment…except her neighbor. His bi-weekly sex fests keep her up at night in more ways than one as she wonders about the man who’s making all the noise—and what he’s doing to make his women so damn loud.

But even her wildest fantasies couldn’t conjure up a man like Antony DeLuca. When she works up the nerve to confront him, she’s expecting a player, but there’s more to Antony than his carefree sexual escapades. One hot night with him helps Ellie see through the man who drives women wild, to the good guy beneath it all. A guy that she just might be able to fall for…"

Bad Boy Good Man is my first taste of Jenny Trout's fiction writing, and I liked it.  A lot.

This novella is written as Abigal Barnette, the erotic romance incarnation of Jenny Trout.
I am still new to this genre and I am still not sure it is for me, however, I thought that Abigail's offering was very contemporary, realistically done, hot, witty and funny.

Review - The Remaining by D.J. Molles
The Remaining (Remaining, #1) - D.J. Molles

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

I have to admit, I was a bit hesitant when I had NetGalley send a copy of this novel to my Kindle.  I had read a sample of another one of Molles' work and to be honest I was taken aback by the misogyny exhibited by the characters.  So much so, that I stopped reading the sample.  Thankfully it was just a case of 'that book wasn't for me'.

This novel is the beginning of a series, but you won't be disappointed.  There is a conclusion and while you will most likely find yourself intrigued and invested enough to pick up the following books, you won't feel as if the author was trying to eek money out of you by offering the novel's resolution in another book.

The author also presented an interesting take on the popular zombie theme.  I recommend picking this book up to find out the details!  You won't be disappointed.

The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet - William Shakespeare

Even Shakespeare Gets Negative Rating Review

2.5 stars

Narrated by LA Theatre Works

I usually like the casting by LA Theatre Works but this time I did not. Perhaps it is because I have seen at least 3 different film versions of Romeo and Juliet to color my expectations. I felt that the cast had a modern cadence to their lines but otherwise, the acting was not too bad.

Hope the Film Is Better
City of Bones - Cassandra Clare

Hope the Film Is Better Review

2.5 stars

My first literary exposure to this author's work was Clockwork Angel. I borrowed it from the library, and after multiple renewals and late fees, I read about 2-3 pages and returned it. The following year or so I read of the opposition to the casting of Godfrey Gao for the popular minor character, Magnus Bane, for the film version of City of Bones on my GR feed, accompanied by a really hot picture of him. I fell in love (j/k). The author's stalwart defense of an ASIAN actor for a character of Asian descent impressed me enough to decide that I was going to see the movie when it came out, which meant that I ought to read the book before I saw the film, right?

Long story short, I hope that the movie is better than the book.
