One Eyed Royals (Seven of Spades #4)
One-Eyed Royals - Cordelia Kingsbridge

What a ride!  And honestly one of the best written crime series and couples I have read. Cordelia has developed an absolutely beautiful, real and perfectly imperfect couple that will be sticking with me for quite some time.  Just this passage alone enhanced for me the depth to which a writer can create emotional connection without words and without touch.

Dominic unwrapped his sandwich and separated the halves. Nudging one half in Levi’s direction, he raised an inquiring eyebrow.

Levi hesitated. Unlike most people in his life, Dominic never pressured him to eat. If he turned down the offer, Dominic would let it go at that. But it had been a while since he’d last eaten, and though he wasn’t hungry, it was a good idea to get some fuel in his system that wasn’t caffeine.

Nodding his thanks, he sat across the table and accepted half the sandwich. When he bit into it, he was surprised to find it was roast beef, his favorite.

Dominic didn’t even like roast beef.

Levi swallowed his mouthful and looked up. Dominic was chewing in silence, watching the infomercial on the TV across the room like it was the most fascinating thing he’d ever seen. Levi fiddled with the crust of the sandwich for a moment, then took another bite.

They ate without talking for a few minutes.

Yes...I got teared up reading this.  Just wow!

Eagerly await a reread of this series as well as the final book in the series.

And these get better and better. Absolutely in love with this couple and continued mindfuck of a mystery.

Reading progress update: I've read 91%.
Broken Pieces - Riley Hart

As though someone flipped a switch, the rigidness in his body evaporated. He sagged against Mateo with his face in Teo’s neck. “I sold myself to the highest bidder,” he whispered. “I made money for school and to take care of my mom by letting someone fuck me. I was his paid whore for years. A whore to his friends, and then I would take that money and buy her food. I’d spend it on my stupid fucking education, because I somehow made myself believe that if I could take care of us, everything else would go away.”

When Mateo wrapped his arms around Tristan, he realized Tristan wasn’t just slack against him anymore... they were holding each other up. His eyes stung. His gut ached. Bile rose in his throat. And fuck if his heart wasn’t somehow matching Tristan’s beat.

My favorite scene.

❤️❤️❤️

In the Absence of Light
In The Absence Of Light - Adrienne Wilder

Morgan may be autistic, but he is a normal man with a mental condition, not a mental condition who is a man.”

Good heavens. Once again Adrienne Wilder has blown me away with her intense and passionate relationships. This one...just wow. The sex scenes in this are quite possibly the best I’ve read. Unique, intense and just absolutely beautiful. And don’t get me started on the eye contact between Morgan and Grant. I absolutely cannot wait to read this again.

A six star read on the couple and their relationship no doubt. The humor and heart in this is so well crafted that you can’t help but love every minute they are on page together. This one fell short with the FBI and Grant’s business dealings. It was really too much and pulled me away from the parts I really wanted. Bummer on that front...but hey...this couple is soooo worth it.
