Review: The Norse Chronicles by Karissa Laurel
The Norse Chronicles - Karissa Laurel

This is a must read for every fan of Norse mythology fan. Even if you have not read or seen much Norse mythology you will love these books. This urban fantast trilogy is the perfect mix of modern world with accident gods roaming this world among us.

Follow Solina as she discovers she is part of a world she never thought was real and as she learns so much she never even thought of. She uncovers secrets she was never meant to know, which puts her in danger and on the run. During her journey she meets some new people but quickly learns that she can’t trust everybody and people will betray her to stop her from finding out too much.

All three books are jammed packed with action, laughter, sass and just the right amount of romance and they will keep you on the edge of your seat with some pretty big and awesome plot twists.

Overall, I highly enjoyed all three books and can only recommend them. I rate it 4 ½-5 ★

MOLTEN DUSK BY: KARISSA LAUREL
Molten Dusk - Karissa Laurel

Words can't even express how excited I was to get my hands on an early copy of Multen Dusk! So I'll just let Thor do it.

Actually, I've enlisted Thor and co. to help me with this review to better express all the many feels this book has inspired.

Molten Dusk pretty much picked up where Arctic Dawn left off, with Helen, Skoll and their goons trying to devour Solina and bring on the second Ragnarok.

I did appreciate just how much Solina and Thorin had grown in this addition to the series. Solina was definitely on a smarter path this time around. She was more hesitant to jump straight into each new dangerous situation. Solina was never one to sit back and let her friends fight the good fight without her, but she did learn to trust in them more and know when to listen to her head and let others take the lead when it made sense. But when the time did come for her to storm in she did so with flare!

Solina went through a lot in this book too. But I think the most devastating was the faceoff with Val. I knew it was inevitable, but man it still stung. I'm honestly glad that Solina seemed to feel that too. Val weasled his way in your heart throughout this series, and it wasn't an easy feat to cast him out.

And then there was Thorin.

Thorin was still the protective, mighty bit of yumminess that we've come to know and love. But I feel like we also got to see a much more vulnerable side to him this time that we haven't really seen much of before. I especially liked hearing more about his past in Asgard, even if it was incredibly heartbreaking.

It was nice to see him opening up to Solina and putting himself out there. And the chemistry between the two was off the charts!

Besides the smoking hot smoochy stuff there was that whole stopping the end of the world as we know it thing they were smack dab in the middle of.

Being that Solina and Thorin were more inclined to trust people (with a heavy dose of weariness, of course), that did put them in the position to possibly be betrayed by those closer to them. And there were many likely candidates for this. It was nearly impossible to foresee exactly who was truly on their side or just laying in wait to make their move against them.

Let us not forget to mention the incredibly awkward/adorable situation where Solina's parents finally came into the fold and were introduced/bombarded with the fact that she and her brother were not exactly human, Norse Myths are real, and all their lives are in danger. Oh, and mom & dad...have you met Thorin the God of Thunder?

I quite enjoyed Thorin whipping out his Hammer for them! And no pervs, that isn't an euphemism for something lewd.

We finally come to the EPIC final showdown at the end. I honestly LOVED the way it all played out. There were quite a few things that I didn't see coming that I wouldn't dream of spoiling for any of you. I will say I was honestly more surprised by those who stepped up and chose to act for what's right than the deceivers this time around. Which was a refreshing change of pace after the (cannot be topped) betrayal in the last book.

I thought things wrapped up nicely in general. It was sad to say goodbye to this story and these characters, and while I would have loved to get a little better of a glimpse past all this chaos and bloodshed, I was pleased to get the little sneak peek.

If you haven't started The Norse Chronicles yet, I highly recommend doing so! It is a perfect blend of Norse Mythology and modern atmosphere, and the series is now complete for you to gobble 'em all up at once!

*Thank you gif maker extraordinaires for the wealth of Thor related gifs on the interwebs that made this post possible*

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review.

**A special thanks to author Karissa Laurel for creating this awesome series, and so kindly sharing early copies and always shouting out your appreciation to your biggest fans (including little ole me!). I can't wait to see what you come up with next!**

Review: Molten Dusk (The Norse Chronicles #3) by Karissa Laurel
Molten Dusk - Karissa Laurel

While recovering from a devastating betrayal, Solina becomes increasingly drawn to Thorin as he helps her hunt down Skoll, the mythical wolf who vowed to kill her. If she can find and destroy the beast, she’ll bring a swift and brutal end to her enemies’ schemes. But nothing ever goes as planned in Solina’s strange new world.

During her search for Skoll, Solina uncovers a plot to unleash a battalion of legendary soldiers and launch an apocalyptic war. Before she and her allies can locate the fabled army, several ghosts from her past return to haunt her. Solina must fight for life and the fate of the world, or her hopes for love and a peaceful future will go up in flames.

This book, or the entire series is a perfect mix of ancient Norse mythology and our modern day world. I mean seeing the God of Thunder tumbling with a cellphone is actually pretty funny thing to see. If you have not read the previous book this review might spoil some things for you, I highly recommend them. This is the third and final book in The Norse Chronicles and it was bittersweet, epic and everything I hoped for. But since this is the final book and it is hard to review it without spoiling too much, I will keep it short. Everything we learned so far and everything that happened in previous book will come to a conclusion in this book, everything comes together and plays out pretty nicely. I just wished being the last book it would have been a bit longer to avoid the little bit of a rushed feeling towards the end. That is my only minor complaint about this book, that we don’t get enough of it. Solina still struggles with the revelation of Val and what he really was up to in the last book and really I was too. Val was one of my favorites and it really hit me hard. But Solina does come to term with a lot of things in this books, and grows quite a bit. But don’t get me wrong she still has plenty of moments where she just runs out to save the world without thinking it through, which of course leads to bigger danger. She gives Thorin a run for his money in this book that is for sure. But I think that is just Solina and something that will never change. I also really enjoyed that she has the chance to reunite with some familiar faces.

Thorin, he really shines in this book. We also get to see a lighter side of him, He opens up more and we learn more about him and his history. It is pretty clear how he feels about Solina and what he is willing to risk to keep her safe.

Skylar, I love this girl. I want her to be my best friend for life. She really is there for Solina and I adore the friendship they have. Of course we see other familiar faces we learned to love throughout the series, some struggle and need to find a new foothold in this book. We also gain some new allies... or do we? And of course we never really know who to trust anymore after the next book. Over all this a great book with lots of action, humor and some romance and some pretty awesome twists that will make you dizzy. But the ending will leave you really satisfied even when you know you will miss some of your favorite characters with the end if this series.

I rate it 4 ½ ★

Some of my favorite Quotes

“Enjoy her while you can, God of Thunder. The wolf will kill her. She will die, in the end.”

***

You’re right. I can do better. Move your Royal Norseness. Boy Thunder. Lord of the Rain Dance…”

***

“Pain exists to remind you you’re alive and have a soul. You’ve come all this way because you’re fighting for something, not because you’re looking for an excuse to give up.”

***

“I thought I was a strong man, Sunshine. I never knew a little thing like you would be the death of me.”

*I received a free copy from the publisher and chose to leave a voluntary review. Thank you!*

Karissa and Bonnie

Karissa lives in North Carolina with her kid, her husband, the occasional in-law, and a very hairy husky named Bonnie. Some of her favorite things are coffee, chocolate, and super heroes. She can quote Princess Bride verbatim. She loves to read and has a sweet tooth for fantasy, sci-fi, and anything in between. Sometimes her husband convinces her to put down the books and take the motorcycles out for a spin. When it snows, you'll find her on the slopes.
