[(Down the Rabbit Hole)] [Author: Juan Pablo Villalobos] published on (October, 2012) - Juan Pablo Villalobos

If you have seen Narcos on Netflix, then you should read this book. Seriously.

Villalobos' book is at once both horrifying and brilliant. Told from the viewpoint of a young boy who reveals far more than he believes, the book looks at not only the drug trade but also people's responses to it.

And the names are important.

Are second chances a myth? After twenty-five years, I expect champagne and flowers. What I get instead is heartbreak and a divorce. With my life a shambles, I hit the road and begin a voyage of self discovery and growth. When my keyboard reveals a world of sensual fantasy and dark desires, I don’t know whether to leap into the unknown or play things safe. What I do know is that I’m worth a second chance. I may be forty-five, but I’m not ready to give up on love.

BIO:

ELLIE MASTERS is the bestselling author of Heart’s Insanity: an Angel Fire Rock Romance. She writes multiple genres, creating the stories she loves to read. These are dark erotic tales. Or maybe sweet contemporary stories. How about a romantic thriller to whet your appetite? Ellie writes it all. Want to read passionate poems and sensual secrets? She does that too. Dip into the eclectic mind of Ellie Masters, spend time exploring the sensual realm where she breathes life into her characters and brings them from her mind to the page and into the heart of her readers every day.

When not writing, Ellie can be found outside, where her passion for all things outdoor reigns supreme: off roading, ATV-ing, scuba diving, hiking, and breathing fresh air, are just a few of her favorite pursuits. She has lived all over the United States, east, west, north, south and central, but grew up under the Hawaiian sun. Now, Ellie is proud to call herself a Southern transplant, learning to say y’all and ‘bless her heart’ with the best of them. She lives with her beloved husband, two children who refuse to flee the nest, and four fur- babies; three cats who rule the household, and a dog who wants nothing other than for the cats to be his friends. The cats have a different opinion regarding this matter. Ellie’s favorite way to spend an evening is curled up on a couch, laptop in place, watching a fire, drinking a good wine, and bringing forth all the characters from her mind to the page and hopefully into the hearts of her readers.

Excerpt:

Wade had just receded into himself, into the chasm of despair that dwelled within the walls of his soul.

This was his fault. That was the bottom line. This was his fault. It all stemmed back to the day of the accident when his baby died.

It stemmed back to that split second when he was at the beach party with Merissa and she’d tried to stop him from going off with George. If he could go back in time and change things he’d go back to that point.

That was the point of decision. His right or left moment in life. He choose to go with George and everything went to hell. It meant that everything from that point was destined for disaster.

Even the good, like being with Chloe.

“Chloe,” he breathed. It was the first thing he’d said since the police took him in custody.

He prayed that wherever she was she was safe….

Down The Rabbit Hole
Down The Rabbit Hole - Peter Abrahams Down The Rabbit Hole - Peter Abrahams A middle grade/YA mystery though I have to admit, I have a few issues with the series. I originally read this book back in 2008 and I didn't remember much about it other than a vague sense of it was cute. I don't know if it's because I'm older and have a different point of view than I did 9 years ago or what but I feel differently about them now. For instance, I really, really dislike Ingrid's parents. Like, a lot. I didn't like them in this book but it really hit home while I was reading the second book that the dad is kind of borderline emotionally and verbally abusive. And in this book Ingrid's brother attacks her and gives her a black eye. In order to protect him she lies and tells everyone she fell down. Um, hello?! Classic abuse story. In the book we find out that Ty's rage issues come from the fact that he's been taking steroids, again, because of the pressure his dad is putting on him, though there are plenty of hints of his drug use in this book as well. I'm going to finish reading the series because I'm invested at this point and because I bought them all on kindle and I don't return books once I've read them. But I'm not thrilled with the series as a whole and I won't recommend them to any of my friends for their kids.

Down the Rabbit Hole
Down the Rabbit Hole - Mary Blayney,Mary Kay McComas,Elaine Fox,R.C. Ryan,J.D. Robb Down the Rabbit Hole (In Death #41.5) by J.D. Robb, Mary Blayney, Elaine Fox, Mary Kay McComas, R.C. Ryan

Enter a wonderland of mesmerizing tales. It’s a place that’s neither here nor there, where things are never quite as they seem. Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s whimsical masterpiece, ranging from the impossible to the mad to the curiouser, these stories will have you absolutely off your head.
Don’t be afraid to follow them…

Down the Rabbit Hole Contains the following novellas:

Wonderment in Death by J. D. Robb
Alice and the Earl in Wonderland by Mary Blayney
iLove by Elaine Fox
A True Heart by Mary Kay McComas
Fallen by R. C. Ryan

Review:
I've said before I'll say again how much I enjoy anthologies. I think its a great idea to put together the novellas and short stories that don't always make it to publication for one reason or another. Novella's are great because you get to visit worlds you're already familiar with without the burden of taking on an entire novel or even better keeps you drawn in between full publications. Although I would like to note for readers unfamiliar with these authors previous works that I'd suggest reading their books prior to reading this one simply because some of the novellas are involved in their current publications and if you are unfamiliar with the authors work it may throw you a teeny bit.
That being said I really enjoyed the fantasy/paranormal/supernatural stories that were brought together for this book. I have to say that Robb and Ryan's stories stood out as my favorites but I thought all of the stories including A True Heart (into the looking glass type of adventure), iLove (a tad cheesy for the virtual boyfriend fiends), and Alice and the Earl in Wonderland (in between worlds time travel adventure) were just as great.
