My True Love Gave To Me Edited by Stephanie Perkins
My True Love Gave to Me: Twelve Holiday Stories - Rainbow Rowell,Holly Black,Laini Taylor,Myra McEntire,Kiersten White,Stephanie Perkins,Gayle Forman,Matt de la Pena,Jenny Han,Ally Carter,Kelly Link,David Levithan

Here is an old review of mine, perfect for the holiday season!

An overall rating is hard to come by, because I feel like it is not fair to everyone. I rated stories for many different reasons. The lower ratings do not come down to bad writing by any means, but to my tastes, and what type of stories I like. I applaud all these writers and thank them for creating this collection of stories. I will give this a score of 4/5, for all the stories I really enjoyed and all the writer's hard work.

1.  Midnights by Rainbow Rowell *****

This is the first thing I have read of Rainbow's and it gave me a really good heartwarming feeling. I wish there was more story for the characters in this short story. 5/5 stars. I read this story on 12/12/15.

2.  The Lady And The Fox by Kelly Link **

2 stars does not mean I disliked it, but that it was okay. It was a bit too odd for my tastes. 2/5 stars. I read this story on 12/13/15

3.  Angels In The Snow by Matt De La Pena ****

I thought this was cute and I loved the parts the cat was in. I did think the romance part felt rushed. 4/5 stars. I read this on 12/14/15

4. Polaris Is Where You'll Find Me by Jenny Han ***

I like the writing style, but the story fell short for me. I felt like there should have been more to it. 3/5 stars. I read this on 12/16/15

5. It's A Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown by Stephanie Perkins *****

It is no surprise that I really liked this story. I love her writing style. This had me in all smiles and gave me the warm fuzzies. 5/5 stars. I read this on 12/16/15

6. You're Temporary Santa by David Levithan ****

I liked the story. There was a sadness to it though. 4/5 stars. Read on 12/18/15

7. Krampuslauf by Holly Black ***

I enjoyed it, though not as much as some of the others. 3/5 stars. Read on 12/18/15

8. What The Hell Have You Done, Sophie Roth by Gayle Foreman ***

I liked it, but not the romance. Too rushed. 3/5 stars. I read this on 12/19/15.

9. Beer Buckets And Baby Jesus by Myra Mcentire ***

One year later, I am resuming this book during December/Christmas time. I really enjoyed this story, but I think I am not a super short story sort of person because I really wanted more details and for it to be longer. However, it was cute. 3/5 stars. I read this on 12/02/16

10. Welcome To Christmas, CA by Kiersten White *****

I loved this story. It was cute and sweet, had drama and a happy, romantic ending. 5/5 stars. I read this on 12/02/16

11. Star Of Bethlehem by Ally Carter ***

Interesting concept for a story, though its been done before. I feel with more details, it would be better. 3/5 stars. I read this on 12/03/16

12. The Girl Who Woke The Dreamer by Laini Taylor ****

I really enjoyed this one and thought Taylor's writing style was wonderful. 4/5 stars. I read this on 12/03/16

Reading progress update: I've read 100%.
Where She Went - Gayle Forman

Where she went is definitely better than If I stay.

I'm glad I read it. Adam is a great book character.

After the ferry to Staten Island I COULDN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN! Loved the ending! I want an Adam just for me! XD

This book is the one I want to see at the movies!!!

Left me feeling like a teenager in love with love! *sigh* LOL XD

Reading progress update: I've read 16%.
Where She Went - Gayle Forman

Good first two chapters.

Not surprised of what became of them.

I'm liking Adam's story, his narration is better than Mia's in the first book.

I hope the writing stays good.

If I Stay - Gayle Forman

It's a cute story for teens but that's it. The flashbacks didn't work for me. Some were boring. But it's an OK read, nothing epic, just OK.

Good ending. Like I said, it was kind of boring until that last scene. The last scene is what makes the book worth reading.

Will read book #2. I've heard it's better than book 1. We'll see.

Heartbreaking, unique and oh so good
If I Stay - Gayle Forman

Opening Line:Everyone thinks it was because of the snow. And in a way, I suppose that’s true.”

Well wow, this was heartbreaking and just oh so good, a totally unique and beautiful story that will be hard to forget.

17yr old Mia’s life is pretty great when we join her on a snowy morning in Oregon. A gifted cellist with a bright future at Julliard on the horizon, she has good friends, a family she doesn’t mind spending time with and a gorgeous boyfriend on his way to becoming a rock star who loves her even though she’s kinda straight laced and not into the whole club scene.

At 7:09 A.M school has been cancelled so her family decides to take advantage of the day by going for a drive. They will be back in time for her to attend Adam's concert that night in Portland and a bonus day looms ahead. The reader immediately gets a feel for this loving and happy family that laughs, teases and gets along. Yes, unlike most girls her age Mia actually thinks her parents are cool and likes her little brother. I liked her parents too; kinda hipster and her brother… well I can’t think too much about him now without wanting to cry.

Sometime between 8 and 9 that morning, as her family laughs and fights over which radio station to listen to Mia's life changes forever. In an instant almost everything is taken from her.

"You wouldn't expect the radio to work afterward. But it does. The car is eviscerated. The impact of a four-ton pickup truck going sixty miles an hour plowing straight into the passenger side had the force of an atom bomb."

Now Mia is caught between life and death, her body comatose but her spirit watching as the paramedics scramble to keep her alive. She goes with herself to the hospital and roams the corridors when the ICU becomes too much. Her grandparents are there, friends and family in a waiting room. Is this real? Am I dead? Finally Adam rushes in, his eyes red and swollen and Mia is forced to make a decision.

If I Stay is only about 200 pages long but wow what an impact. As Mia hovers between life and death, she reflects on her life and we learn all aspects of it, her dreams for the future and her relationship with Adam. And we’re with her when she realizes she has to make a choice because to live is going to hurt and take more courage than she may have. Will she stay and face the pain of an unknown future or will she simply let go...

I just loved this story, but I’m such a sucker for a good tragedy, this tore me to pieces in the best of ways. Cheers
