Review: Rape Jokes
Rape Jokes - Louise McGregor

This was a LibraryThing giveaway.

Thumbs up because the publisher is based in my hometown.

Cons:

1) The title, which I get, but I got a lot of looks while reading this in public.

2) The entirety of the book is in first person which does make sense for the story being told, but I loathe first person perspective.

3) Some of the situations were so convoluted they were comical.

Pros:

1) The story was told from the victim's point of view.

2) She had a good support system.

3) She didn't instantly know what to do and how to feel.

4) She didn't have instant closure.

We watched as our protagonist, Edie, figured out what actually happed to her and saw how she navigated everday life as a survivor of rape.

Her life fell apart a little too spectacularly for my tastes, but we did watch her work to put it all back together again, which didn't happen instantly.  She had to learn how to fuction as a friend, a worker, a love interest and just Edie again.

It wasn't a great read, but it was very good. I would definitely check out more from the author a d publisher in future.

Reading progress update: I've read 62 out of 205 pages.
Rape Jokes - Louise McGregor

It's in first person, which I loathe.  However, considering the story being told, it makes sense for it to be in first person.  I haven't decided how I feel about it.  I don't hate it though, so that's good.

Review: The Inn at Ocean's Edge
The Inn at Ocean's Edge (Shadow Bay) - Colleen Coble

I would say this book is really a good read. It sure has the mystery element to it. We learn the mysteries throughout the book. It more of a thriller and mystery combination.

There are crime and detective going on as well in this story plot. Claire returns to the Inn at the Ocean Edge and things start to happen to her. Is she the real Claire Delmore?

There seems to be a cover-up story or is Harry Delmore hiding something from his daughter? Her grandmother also is acting strange when Claire starts wondering and questing about herself.

We also meet Luke Rocco and his sister. He thinks that Claire had disappeared around the same time his mother disappeared. Is there a connection between the two?

Colleen does tell a story that will make hungry for more. The plot is written well. The characters are developed and show their personalities. This book a cannot put down the book once you get into the action.

Adrift...
Adrift - Rob Boffard

Loved it! The suspense was great and there was non-stop action the entire ride! I literally held my breath through quite a bit of the book.

The boys, Corey and Malik, were my favorite characters out of all of them, besides the pilot, Captain Jana Volkova, I liked her a lot too, but the kids were seriously the stars of the show.

I only had an issue with one small part-

Roman turned sides way too easily. It seemed like one minute he was plotting their demise and the next he was helping to save them. I can see what the author was trying to show-that Corey being a child had a profound effect in his decision but geez, it just happened a little too quickly.

(spoiler show)

All-in-all a nice thrilling space adventure and definitely worth reading!

*I received this ARC from the author and the Goodreads FirstReads program in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!
