May 2019 Round-Up and Giveaway

Happy June

I can't believe we made it to the half year mark already, It's going by so fast. Also so many awesome books are coming out this year or are already released. For once I'm ahead with my Goodreads goal.... so far .

I read a lot of books in May and I was actually all caught with my review copies,  just in time for new ones to come in soon.  I'm still behind on posting some reviews but I'm getting there I posted more this month and hopefully will do the same next month.

Speaking of next month, there are a lot of new releases next month but here are just a few I'm looking forward to.

Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout

40291564

Sweep of the Blade by Ilona Andrews

37712577

DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff

40177770

Kingdom of Exiles by Maxym M. Martineau

42366222

At the moment, on audio I'm still working my way through the The Dresden Files, currently I'm on book #5 which is Death Masks by Jim Butcher. I'm at about 65% so I should be done soon with it. I still love this series a lot.

91479

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But now he's getting more than he bargained for:

A duel with the Red Court of Vampires' champion, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...

Professional hit men using Harry for target practice...

The missing Shroud of Turin...

A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified...

Not to mention the return of Harry's ex-girlfriend Susan, who's still struggling with her semi-vampiric nature. And who seems to have a new man in her life.

Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you're charging

In paperback, I'm reading A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab, I was looking forward to reading this book for so long that I think I over-hyped this book. I like it but not as much I thought I would and not until about half way through when we finally met Lila. I'm on page 242/400 and it finally started getting really interesting.

Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.

Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.

Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.

After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.

Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive.

I have a few ARCs coming so I'm not sure what I be reading next, but if you are interested and not already are, you can follow me on Goodreads, I'm pretty good at updating my reading there.... well.... most of the time anyway.

We still have the giveaway running that will end in June but make sure to keep your eyes out for a new one coming end of June or beginning of July that will run until September. That is always a good way to find new author, books and win some pretty sweet prizes.  You can find the current giveaway on the homepage, I will also add the copter to the end of this to make it easier.

That should be all, hope everyone is having a great Summer and gets some time to read.......

Now to all my May reads, as always you can find the buy links in the reviews that will be linked.

Thank you and Happy Reading !!!

Just One of the Groomsmen by Cindi Madsen

Addison Murphy is the funny friend, the girl you grab a beer with—the girl voted most likely to start her own sweatshirt line. And now that one of her best guy friends is getting married, she’ll add “groomsman” to that list, too. She’ll get through this wedding if it’s the last thing she does. Just don’t ask her to dive for any bouquet.

When Tucker Crawford returns to his small hometown, he expects to see the same old people, feel comfort in the same old things. He certainly doesn’t expect to see the nice pair of bare legs sticking out from under the hood of a broken-down car. Certainly doesn’t expect to feel his heart beat faster when he realizes they belong to one of his best friends.

If he convinces Addie to give him a chance, they could be electric…or their break-up could split their tight-knit group in two.

Hiding the way he feels from the guys through bachelor parties, cake tastings, and rehearsals is one thing. But just as Tucker realizes that Addie truly could be the perfect woman for him—he was just too stupid to realize it—now she’s leaving to follow her own dreams. He’s going to need to do a lot of compromising if he’s going to convince her to take a shot at forever with him—on her terms this time.

Godsgrave  by Jay Kristoff

A ruthless young assassin continues her journey for revenge in this new epic fantasy from New York Times bestselling author Jay Kristoff.

Assassin Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church ministry think she’s far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she’s no closer to ending Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo, or avenging her familia. And after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia begins to suspect the motives of the Red Church itself.

When it’s announced that Scaeva and Duomo will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end them. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between loyalty and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

Set in the world of Nevernight, which Publishers Weekly called “absorbing in its complexity and bold in its bloodiness,” Godsgrave will continue to thrill and satisfy fantasy fans everywhere.

I liked this book a lot better than book one…. It had a lot of growth from the characters to the story.

We pick up shortly after where the last book ended and see how Leah handles her immortality. Just when they think all is set and done and they can live in peace things get messy.

I really enjoyed the pace of this book it was not too fast, nor too slow.

I really thought I knew where this was going but there were a few surprises along the way and we get thrown for a loop, which I really loved .

I really enjoyed that Jack and Leah not only grew themselves but with the story.

I found both Jack and Leah a bit annoying last book, while I was still not a big fan of them I liked them better this book, that it I just got used to them. While I liked them individually better, I didn’t really care for them together. It was all a bit much and maybe seemed a bit too pushed overall and Jack sometimes came over more of an immature brat than jealous.

Artagan was still my favorite but we also mee t some pretty cool new people.

Overall I really enjoyed more than last book and thought it was a interesting book that kept me captivated to the last page.

I rate it 4.5 ★

I enjoyed this book.  I wasn’t sure in the beginning I would. It started out a bit slow and the back and forth was a bit much in the beginning. But I really ended up enjoying it and had a hard time putting the book down. The Mystery to what Jack is kept me glued to the page… the same with Leah…. It was clear early on that there is something more to her, but not what.

The book really picks up after the first 30 pages and the pace increases to a steady and enjoyable pace.  I also really liked the concept of the story and liked that we learn along with Jack what was going on.

Some of the things happening were a bit too convenient for me to fit in the story but it really didn’t bother me all too much. The beginning also reminded me a bit f the Vampire Diaries (TV show) in the beginning with the whole doppelganger theme. But again not too much and it had enough of its own content to not bother me too much and be new and fresh.

Neither Jack, nor Leah were my favorite both had a semi annoying site to them, but overall I enjoyed them. Another thing that bothered me a bit was Grady and his flip-flopping attitude towards Jack. It just didn’t feel right and a bit forced like just to be there for the drama.

I absolutely loved Ed and his shop. But by far my favorite was Artagan and I really wanted more of him and I have high hope for that in the next book.

Overall I enjoyed it and ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would and after the cliffhanger I’m curious to see what happens next.

I rate it 3.5★
