Class Differences in Paranormal Romance
Soul Kissed - Erin Kellison
Troll-y Yours - Sheri Fredricks
Heart Change - Robin D. Owens
Wolf Who Rules - Wen Spencer
Lothaire (Immortals After Dark, #12) - Kresley Cole
Justin - Allyson James, Jennifer Ashley
No Words Alone - Autumn Dawn
Big Bad Beast - Shelly Laurenston
Born - Jenna McCormick
Would-Be Witch - Kimberly Frost

I actually perfer my Romance with more internal than external conflict. When the conflict stems from who the characters are rather than some outside force, it means they have to resolve the conflict. I get way more couple time this way.

Social class difference between the couple sets up an especially dynamic and interesting internal conflict. World views clash and shift.  Good stuff.

In Paranormal, Science Fiction and Fantasy Romance Class difference can be a great plot point as the whole world has been created.

Here are some wonderful Paranormal Romances that deal with social class difference between the leads.

To see and vote on the whole list, visit my Goodreads list: Class Differences in Paranormal Romance

dryad is a tree nymph or tree spirit who are often tied to the very tree they spring from thus if the tree dies the dryad does as well. However, for the purpose of this list, I am counting heroes and heroines who are botanically based or have botanical powers.

Fun! We need more dryads!

My lists are never in any particular order.

1. Garden by Viola Grace

Garden has been called in on a rescue and she carries it out without any second thoughts. With her weapons all in the biological range and her body the pinnacle of genetic manipulation, she is ready for anything.

Mercury is a Guardian mistaken for a robot on a planet that fears technology. Pinned in place and not wanting to hurt the locals, he waits for a rescue and is shocked to find it in the purple-haired woman with the twinkling eyes.

Together, they face attacks and decide that their destiny is worth pursuing. Together.

2. Libriomancer by Jim C. Hines

Isaac Vainio is a Libriomancer, a member of the secret organization founded five centuries ago by Johannes Gutenberg.  Libriomancers are gifted with the ability to magically reach into books and draw forth objects. When Isaac is attacked by vampires that leaked from the pages of books into our world, he barely manages to escape. To his horror he discovers that vampires have been attacking other magic-users as well, and Gutenberg has been kidnapped.

With the help of a motorcycle-riding dryad who packs a pair of oak cudgels, Isaac finds himself hunting the unknown dark power that has been manipulating humans and vampires alike. And his search will uncover dangerous secrets about Libriomancy, Gutenberg, and the history of magic. . . .

3. Blood of the Maple by Dana Marie Bell

A seduction-gone-wrong leaves vampire Parker Hollis with a new vegetarian lifestyle and on the run from a vengeful witch. Moving to small-town Maggie's Grove, Parker meets a redheaded dryad with green, leafy blood that draws him in a way he hasn't experienced in decades. His new neighbor smells divine, and it isn't long before craving gives in to need.

In a unique community of supernaturals, tree-loving outcast Amara Schwedler has never quite fit in. She's scarred by a traumatic incident and feared by the local townsfolk. She's convinced Parker will look elsewhere for a mate once he discovers she's not one of the O-positive set, and can't believe it when Parker finds her irresistible.

When the witch who's been plaguing Parker's life discovers the newfound attraction between Parker and Amara, she takes out her anger on the town. Can the supernaturals of Maggie's Grove accept Amara and band together in time to withstand the assaults of the enraged witch?

4. Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks

Man by day, Centaur by night, Rhycious is a remedy maker who needs his own healing.

He's the royal physician, famous for his cures. War and posttraumatic stress disorder have broken his spirit, preventing him from finding true happiness. Then a direct order from the queen to investigate an uprising forces him out of his secluded cabin at the edge of the Boronda forest.

Patience is an optimistic, good-natured Wood Nymph who works as a mediator to ensure harmony within the Nymph sector.

Environmental pollution in the aquifer stream that feeds the taproot tree of her heart is slowly killing her. Resigned to the fact she will not live long, she sets out to discover the mysterious disappearance of her sister. Experience has taught her to deny herself the love of a male, but the gruff Centaur is different. He doesn't push his expectations on her, only his healing nature.

When Rhycious loses his grip on reality, he believes his inability to control his disorder will drive Patience away. Nevertheless, desire flares, and Patience draws him close. Kidnapping and betrayal turn their mythic joint venture into a deadly bout.

Will their love endure when survival hinges on trusting each other?

5. The Duke and the Dryad by Elizabeth Rose

uke Odwolfe of Manterra is known to his friends as Wolfe, and to his enemies as Duke the Destroyer. When his prized bull goes missing, he sets out to find it. It has been stolen for a sacrifice by the druids who are conducting their pagan ritual in the forest, within the circle of standing stones. And when he finds he is too late to save his animal, he demands one of them come to his castle as his servant in exchange for his loss.

Rae-Nyst is an elemental of the earth, better known as a dryad. She has both fae as well as human blood running through her veins. She gets her power from the earth, however, fire can kill her. And when the Duke of Manterra decides to take her in exchange for his bull, she finds herself not able to fight him, as her power is draining quickly by the flaming torch he keeps waving in her face.

Can a man who believes in nothing but war and destruction accept the exotic fae girl who honors all life instead of death? Or will she have to give up the ways of her nearly extinct kind in order to be with the man who has stolen her heart? Passion and fury rage in an epic adventure as two headstrong people find themselves faced with a dilemma that could either kill them or bring them closer together in The Duke and the Dryad.

6. The Dryads' Tower by Judy Mays

or twenty long years, no druid has inhabited the tower in the dryad's valley, leaving them vulnerable to humans who'd cut down their trees. Finally, though, a mage who can protect their sacred grove has arrived seeking the magical knowledge the tower contains.

Navaar isn't a druid but they've waited long enough. No children have been born to them in too long because a dryad's tree consort, after all, cannot sire her children. A human male is needed for that. The mage Navaar is perfect, for the night they captured and seduced him, three of the dryads became pregnant. Yes, Navaar is a worthy successor to the druid who left them so long ago.

But then Navaar rescues a druidess from a Blood mage who'd wanted the tower for himself. Dylana, daughter of the druid who'd last inhabited the tower and a dryad mother, has returned to the place of her birth; and she wants the tower for herself, and no man, even if he is a powerful -- and enticing -- sex mage, is going to keep her from claiming it.

Dating Services and Online Dating in Romance Novels
Infatuation - Alison Kent
Meant to Be (RightMatch.com Book 3) - Kathryn Shay
Dead End Dating - Kimberly Raye
Beauty Dates the Beast - Jessica Sims,Jill Myles
Match Me If You Can - Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Love at Stake - Victoria Davies
Troll-y Yours - Sheri Fredricks
Sex, Lies, and Online Dating - Rachel Gibson
Big Boy - Ruthie Knox
Matchmakers 2.0 - Debora Geary

It turns out that 1/3 of Americans are meeting the loves of their lives on line and the data shows these romances are good for the long haul.

Romance Novels often feature dating agency of some kinds but I would love to see more Romances where the couple met through the online dating site or the agency.

One of the reasons that relationships that begin on line tend to be successful is that each person is looking for commitment. The goal of dating is clear.

I like that in my Romance Novels as well--the hero and the heroine want a relationship. Refreshing!.

Here are some fun Romances featuring Dating Agencies.

1. Infatuation by Alison Kent

"Hell on wheels...in bed" someone had written on Rennie Bergen's business card. Now Rennie's card rested with many other men's in the glass "booty"--all up for grabs by the female dating pool in Milla Page's office building.

Three dates! That's all Milla needed to write a sexy, juicy story on San Francisco hot spots for her online column. Was it fate she drew Rennie's card?

The two of them had a history. Infatuation, wild sex, sneaking around--followed by a painful explosive breakup. But Milla was still hot for him six years later.... And it was clear Rennie felt the same. Could they have a shot at rewriting history?

2. Meant to Be  by Kathryn Shay

In MEANT TO BE, thirty-four year old Cole Matheson gets himself entangled with Beth Montgomery, forty-five, while he’s lying to her about his age. When he finally tells her the truth, she reluctantly forgives him. But he’s unable to be completely honest with her and, eventually, Beth cannot deal with his consistent deceit. Now, sexy, adorable Cole must convince her he can be the kind of man she deserves.

3. Dead End Dating by Kimberly Raye

A vivacious vampire with a flair for accessorizing, Lil Marchette is unlike most of her kind. She prefers lively shades of pink to dismal black (soo not her color), plus she’s a hopeless romantic. In need of a steady paycheck to support a compulsive cosmetics habit, Lil starts Dead End Dating (DED), a Manhattan-based matchmaking service that helps smart, sophisticated singles like herself find eternity mates–and may even help her stake a claim to her very own Count Right!

When Lil meets geeky vampire Francis Deville, she knows he’s the perfect first client. If she can hook up Francis–after a little revamping, of course–she will prove her skills to the vampire community and turn DED into the hottest dating service in the Big Apple. But just as her business takes off, Lil meets the (literally) drop-dead gorgeous bounty hunter Ty Bonner, who is hot on the chase of a serial killer. Instantly drawn to the luscious vamp stud, Lil really wants a taste. But as a made vampire, Ty can’t procreate–and Lil will settle for nothing less. Luckily, between “vampifying” Francis and helping Ty solve his murder mystery, Lil has no time for silly romantic entanglements . . . even if Ty is all that and a Bloody Mary chaser!

4. Beauty Dates the Beast by Jessica Sims

WANTED

Single human female to join charming, wealthy, single male were-cougar for a night of romantic fun—and maybe more.

Me: The tall, sensuous, open-minded leader of my clan.

You: A deliciously curvy virgin who’s intimately familiar with what goes bump in the night. Must not be afraid of a little tail. Prefer a woman who’s open to exploring her animal nature. Interest in nighttime walks through the woods a plus.

My turn-ons include protecting you from the worst the supernatural world has to offer. Ready for an adventure? Give me a call.

Vampires and doppelgangers need not apply.

5. Match Me If You Can  by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Annabelle's endured dead-end jobs, a broken engagement . . . even her hair's a mess! But that's going to change now that she's taken over her late grandmother's matchmaking business. All Annabelle has to do is land the Windy City's hottest bachelor as her client, and she'll be the most sought-after matchmaker in town.

Why does the wealthy, driven, and gorgeous sports agent Heath Champion need a matchmaker, especially a red-haired screw-up like Annabelle Granger? True, she's entertaining, and she does have a certain quirky appeal. But Heath is searching for the ultimate symbol of success -- the perfect wife. And to make an extraordinary match, he needs an extraordinary matchmaker, right?

Soon everyone in Chicago has a stake in the outcome, and a very big question: When the determined matchmaker promised she'd do anything to keep her star client happy . . . did she mean anything? If Annabelle isn't careful, she just might find herself going heart-to-heart with the toughest negotiator in town.

6. Love at Stake  by Victoria Davies

Abbey is the lone human working for Fated Match, a company that pairs members of the supernatural community with their eternal mates. To snag a young vampire socialite as her next client, Abbey journeys to the home of Lucian Redgrave, the most respected vampire on the East Coast. But he's not willing to recommend the agency to the vampire world... unless Abbey can first find his perfect match in a month.

As Abbey coaches Lucian through his dates, she can't deny the chemistry between them. But humans are toys for vampires, and risking her heart isn't a part of the plan.

7. Troll-y Yours by Sheri Fredricks

SHE TAKES A CHANCE.

Determined to forge a better life, Ella launches her new business with high hopes—until a sexy Centaur bumps into her and throws her life off course forever. Voted “Most Eligible Bachelor in Boronda”, Aleksander shakes up her world and tilts her in more ways than one.

HE’S IN DANGEROUS TERRITORY.

Years of warfare and countless bedroom encounters have stolen Kempor Aleksander’s luster for life. He never expects to rediscover his zeal in the small, redheaded form of Ella the Troll, who fires his blood hotter than the deepest caverns in the forest.

A PASSION SO HOT.

But as trouble lingers in their midst—and edges ever closer—Alek and Ella spiral into troubled terrain. Turning to each other, the pair face down dangers that run impenetrably deep in their mythological world. But will the two lovers discover a passion that runs even deeper?

8. Sex, Lies, and Online Dating by Rachel Gibson

Sex . . .

What is it about men anyway? Bad cars, bad jobs, even bad teeth—nothing convinces them that they can't snare a Size Two Babe with a D-cup chest. And after way too many internet dates with men named "luvstick" and "bigdaddy182," Lucy Rothschild should know.

Lies . . .

But sitting across from her now is "hardluvnman," and he seems different—sensitive, honest, and hot! He says he's a plumber, while Lucy claims she's a nurse! She's really a mystery writer, dating online while researching her next book. Hey, everyone lies a little, don't they?

And Online Dating . . .

But Quinn's really an undercover cop hunting down a serial killer, and he sees Lucy as his top suspect. And while he could really go for this smart, sexy woman with the killer bod—if that's the only thing "killer" about her—he knows he needs to wine and dine her and discover the truth. Hey, he realizes the dating scene can be deadly—but this is ridiculous!

9. Big Boy  by Ruthie Knox

When Mandy joins an online dating service, she keeps her expectations low. All she wants is a distraction from the drudgery of single parenthood and full-time work. But the invitation she receives from a handsome man who won't share his real name promises an adventure--and a chance to pretend she's someone else for a few hours.
She doesn't want romance to complicate her life, but Mandy's monthly role-playing dates with her stranger on a train--each to a different time period--become the erotic escape she desperately needs. And a soul connection she never expected.
Yet when she tries to draw her lover out of the shadows, Mandy has a fight on her hands...to convince him there's a place for their fantasy love in the light of day.

Mick - guppy scientist and victim of her self-inflicted dating adventures.
Miri - astrology whiz and promoter of steamy sex for the greater good.
Derrick - data genius and life idiot.

Meet the match team at MatchMakers.com, the web 2.0 online-dating service with a personal touch.

Can Mick lead her team, find a guy, and finally win Match the Loser? Enjoy a little humor, a little romance, and occasional trivia about guppies.

Healer: Romance Healers Who are Not Traditional
Keepers Of The Flame - Robin D. Owens
Warprize - Elizabeth Vaughan
Dark Magic (Carpathians, #4) - Christine Feehan
Remedy Maker - Sheri Fredricks
The Warrior's Touch - Michelle Willingham
Yellowstone Redemption: Yellowstone Romance Series Book 2 - Peggy L. Henderson
Forbidden - Elizabeth Lowell
Resurrecting Flame - Viola Grace
Shadow Touch - Marjorie M. Liu
Slave to Sensation - Nalini Singh

Some people can heal by touch alone. I always thought this super power would be a terrible one to posses. I would try to save everyone. I couldn't help myself.

Then, we have the herbalists, medicine people, and other non traditional healers.  Usually the hero or heroine needs some healing and that is the meet in these romances. However, sometimes, being a healer is just a large part of character development.  Its all good!

Here are my favorite Romances with these kinds of leads:

1. No one does it better than Robin Owens, Heart DuelHeart SecretKeepers of the Flame and  Heart Change all showcase very different healers with wonderful conflicts and love stories.

2. Warprize by Elizabeth Vaughan,  Xylara

3. Dark Magic by Christine Feehan, Gregori

4.  Remedy Maker by Sheri Fredricks.  Rhycious

5. The Warrior's Touch by Michelle Willingham, Aileen à Duinne

6. Yellowstone Redemption by Peggy Henderson, Sarah Osborne

7. Forbidden by Elizabeth Lowell, Amber the Untouched

8. Resurrecting Flame by Viola Grace, Kozue Guardsman

Gingers! Redheads in Romance
Live - Mary Ann Rivers
Outlander - Diana Gabaldon
The Unidentified Redhead - Alice Clayton
Never a Gentleman - Eileen Dreyer
Angels' Flight (Guild Hunter, #0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 3.5) - Nalini Singh
Devil in Winter - Lisa Kleypas
Timeless Moon - C.T. Adams,Cathy Clamp
Beast - Pepper Pace
The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie - Jennifer Ashley
The Chocolate Touch - Laura Florand

While we only make up only 1 to 2 percent of the world populations, were recently threatened with extinction, and South Park made us a very funny slur, we thrive in the pages of Romanceland.

Jamie of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon fame being the most famous red headed gentleman and maybe Grace, The Unidentified Redhead  by Alice Clayton being the most notable leading lady.

Redheads have plenty of stereotypes to contend with like all hair colors but I think what I like about Gingers in Romance (besides the self representation is the way, when done right, being redheaded builds the the character physically. We are easier to blush, tend to have freckles, for better or worse think a great deal about our hair as do other people, come in so many shades, and well then there is the more intimate of ginger touches.

We will only show you if we really like you.

I love the scene in Outlander where Claire gazes on Jamie while he is nude in the sun getting to see all those private bits of redheadedness.  This is my plea for please, please more ginger heroes in Romance. :)

There is also a stunning scene in Eileen Dryer's Never a Gentleman (The Drake's Rakes series)  of discovery between the hero and the heroine. Wowza.

I recently waxed poetic about Mary Ann River's Live (The Burnside Series): The Burnside Series and all the details of the heroine's gingerness through the hero's loving, lustblown (I stole this word from Charlotte Stein and I am keeping it) eyes.

If you would like to see a great video on the Redheads, check this one out!

All The Science Reasons Redheads Do That Redhead Thing They Do
