If you love a good love story, with a dark past and plenty of hardships to overcome and a thoroughly satisfying ending then this one is a must.

What happens when you live through a horrific trauma? It changes you. There is no other way. You either succumb and die or you get stronger and you live, but you are a different you. And that is what our strong heroine is, she is a changed person who changed for the better, for the stronger and for the smarter. And she kicks as$ (quite literally).

Zhao Lifei has never had a good emotional upbringing but she was raised in wealth and that is what made her conceited and arrogant. When she survived something terrible and managed to work through her trauma and her mistakes, she was built up as a new, improved version of herself. With this still struggling version of herself she meets her destiny in the form of an amazingly hunky and dangerous CEO Yang Feng, oh and by the way, he also rules the shady part of town. When they meet they grow as people - into people whom they are then proud to present to the world. All of that happens with a world of suffering, torture, deaths, humiliation, struggle, kidnappings, resolving their pasts etc. It is a struggle worth going through because it is written in a very compelling and smart way with a dark undertone.

The characters are flawed, as well as they should be. I hate characters that are cookie cutter characters lacking any realism. These characters are flawed, yes.

Zhao Lifei is too stubborn, bottles up her feelings, builds walls around herself and projects things from her past into current situations.

Yang Feng is a bit obsessive and possessive and stubborn as all hell when it comes to things and people he loves.

They both have a dark past and are dealing with their demons. What matters is that they grow, they mature, they lessen their bad characteristics as they spend more time with each other. They help each other. I see plenty of reviews saying the male lead character is too possessive, he is like this and like that but what they fail to mention is that his first thought is like that yes, but then he is actually much more considerate in his actions albeit still a bit too possessive and then he gets burned by our kickas$ female lead and he learns, and he adapts and he realises he can do better and he does. Isn't that the point? Going through hardships and misunderstandings to actually accomplish something, realise something, grow and mature? I certainly think it is.

The storyline is great, the plot keeps getting more and more complicated and the mystery is compelling and you just want to keep reading and discovering and enjoying the process of getting to that sweet wonderful ending.

The characters are wonderful, flawed and full of battle scars and you care for them every step of the way.

The pacing is also done well, there weren't any long scenes that you'd feel like you wanted to skip or that you'd look later at and say that was completely unnecessary. It all has a meaning, gives clues and ties the loose ends in the end.

One thing that I found quite amusing was the ending itself and no, I won't spoil it. I'll just say that it has more endings than The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King XD I kept thinking my goodness, that is amazing, ah this was so good, so that is how it ends and then you turn another chapter and then there is more, and then another and another and another and in the end I might as well say that no stone was left unturned, everyone's story had a proper ending and kudos to the writer for managing it. Well done.

All in all, it was a wonderful experience and a journey I'd sign myself up for at any time.

The characters are strong and real which makes it easy for readers to relate to them and the chemistry between West and Eryn is sexy and sizzles with lots of heat. Eryn is determined to protect her heart no matter how undeniable the attraction feels, so much of the story is an emotional roller coaster as she struggles not to give in to West’s seduction and the hero is a dominate male that will use whatever he has to get Eryn back into his life. The relationship is further complicated by some less than desirable family members which adds to the drama and suspense of this couple’s happily ever after.

The story is set at a steady pace and the hero is a wealthy CEO who’s willing to bargain in order to get the upper hand when it comes to matters of the heart, which is scandalously sexy. The story is quite emotional but there is also some snarky dialogue and chuckle worthy moments peppered throughout the story and with every turn of the page readers find themselves pleased more and more with all the chemistry and romance of Eryn and Hope’s road to happily ever after with every turn of the page.

“You’re supposed to groom the way I want you to. It’s in the contract.”

That raises my alarm. “It’s not!”

“Oh, it is. Paragraph three, subparagraph six, clause B. You’re to be presentable to my satisfaction.”

“When we go out.” I’m positive that’s what I read. Well, almost...

West shakes his head. “I wrote three-quarters of it myself. I know exactly what it says.”

“You wrote most of that?”

He nods. “After I went home, I managed to finish my last semester of college at Columbia, then attended law school. While working as Quaid’s CEO.”

I blink. “You went to law school?”

“There’s a lot you don’t know about the last three years.”

“Whose fault is that?”

His face shutters closed as he reaches into his jeans for his cell. “I’m done arguing about this.”

With a puzzled frown, I watch as he sends a quick text. Almost immediately, he receives a reply. Then he smiles and tosses the device onto the nearest nightstand. “In the spa downstairs, Leona will clear up that landing strip at ten a.m. tomorrow.”

On one level, it’s heady that he cares about the state of my flesh he intends to use. On the other hand, I don’t understand his insistence to have me bare. “Why are you trying so damn hard to control everything, even the state of my pubic hair?”

“Because I want back the sexual compatibility we once had. I want the naked dinners and the lazy Sunday afternoons. I want the long, hot nights of lovemaking. I want—” He lets out a rough breath and shakes his head. “I want your pussy bare.”

That’s not the whole truth. I know West’s expressions too well. Oh, he wants to recreate something about our past. The question is why? And how much? But I’m guessing it’s not just the sex. Holy cow, is he looking to make me his girlfriend? His “fiancée” again? Maybe...but now that I’m thinking about it, two and two aren’t adding up.

Her son Nick was the next in line to be heir to a big money inheritance. Erika’s world was Nick. She became a exotic dancer at a gentlemen's club. Erica is twenty two also going to college to get a degree in psychology.  Tito was Nick’s father's best friend. He was rich and and successful and used to getting what he wants without much of a problem. He also swore never to settle down after seeing his parent’s marriage. He finds about about Erika’s and Nick’s child's existence along with the rest of Nick’s parental family. He promised his best friend if anything happened to him Tito would take care of the baby and it’s mother. They decide Nick should be raised in Greece with all the appropriate cultural heritage. They also decide Erica is not a fit mother as she works in a gentlemen’s club. Erica’s mom was a prostitute but Erica was not. Nick’s paternal family as well as Tito judge Erica without knowing her in any way. As far as they were concerned she was a gold digging floozy. Even though Erica didn’t know anything about her baby daddy’s position or money. Titp was repulsed by the women at the gentlemen’s club and wants to get Nick away from Erica and return to Crete with him. Than he decides it would be better to marry Erica so he doesn’t separate mother and son and the bond they had and take them both back to Crete. Besides Tito doesn’t want to fight Erica in court to get Nick. Erica agrees to Tito’s proposal for Nick’s safety and he is the important one. She wants what is best for her son. Tito and Erica are attracted to each other but fight it as this was only a marriage of convenience.

I enjoyed this book but I do feel at times Erika acted immaturely. But I loved Nick was the most important thing in her life after feeling his father deserted them and having to work at the gentlemen's club. I did really like how Tito was with Nick and later Erica. At first he was just so cold to her that I didn’t care for him. But he does grow on you. At least he did realize it wouldn’t be right to take Nick form his mother. I didn’t care for any of the members of the Greek families- not Nicks or Tito’s. This was a quick, and easy read but also emotional. The ending felt a little rushed to me. But I did love the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.
