Pestilence (The Four Horsemen #1) by T.A. Chase
Pestilence - T.A. Chase

There is "not enough" trend in this book, IMHO.

Human Bart's not sick enough the way his illness is described.

Pest does not care enough & not emotional enough. He is detached and doesn't spend enough time with Bart.

Pest and Death talk about secrecy but they are not secretive enough. In fact they can't seem to keep their mouths shut.

The whole falling in love process is not convincing enough.

The whole case of pandemic about to explode is not believable either.

The Chimera (Bound Gods #1) by Adrienne Wilder
Bound Gods: The Chimera - Adrienne Wilder

Frigging brilliant! My only complaint is that Kaleb is not suffering the change of scenery enough. He must have had friends, he must have had hopes and ambitions and plans, like being in college, obtaining freedom from his father. Maybe the reality is yet to settle in? :D

Looking forward to the next installment.

PS
There are problems with editing, but I am choosing to ignore them since they were not too bad.
Mixed up "he, she" in reference to Kaleb's trans male brother drove me bonkers. There should be "He" in this book with this particular set of characters, no way around it.

Fighting Instinct (L'Ange #2) by Mary Calmes
Fighting Instinct - Mary Calmes

A  very quick read. Cut out headache-inducing bickering and meaningless dialog and the story shrinks from 224 pages to about 124. Cut out rivers of blood and gun-waving, and you get it down to about 70 in no time. Then tune out the descriptions of posh surroundings and you are looking at mere 60. Pull out and burn the bush that the author beats around instead of moving the story forward and you can get maybe 40 pages of the actualstory
I am not going to review that story, just want to mention that yet another creature went through pain and suffering and was almost destroyed emotionally and physically so we could read about Arman and his guns.

Coyote's Creed (Broken Mirrors #1) by Vaughn R. Demont
Coyote's Creed - Vaughn R. Demont

3.5-ish stars.

Warnings:
Non-romance. There are some smooches, sex, even attempts at "i love you", but - no, not a romance.
Elements of horror.

One full star off for Present Tense. I find it generally awkward and unnatural, bordering creepy, unless it's tied to the story/characters, like The Silvers, where one of the MCs lives "in the present" and processes everything accordingly.

0.3 stars off for the urn shuffle. The whole business is rather fishy and springs an unhealthy amount of unanswered questions.

0.2 stars off for non-american feel. I kept thinking I am in Europe somewhere, no matter how much the author wanted me to believe otherwise.

Anyway, a very entertaining read. Rounding down to 3 (considering the rough beginning) and moving onto book 2.

Dragon's Treasure by Qaida Harte
Dragon's Treasure - Qaida Harte

Warning: rape, torture, blood and gore. Not a pretty read for the first 40%.
