Andrew gathered Caryn close to his side when they stepped inside the elevator and pressed the button to his floor. Caryn squeezed his hand during the brief ride. Once inside his room, he sank gratefully onto a chair and absently rubbed the back of his head.
“Can I get you anything? Are you allowed an evening beer?” Caryn offered.
“Did Tom bring any wine over?”
“I think so.”
“Good, why don’t you get a bottle and a glass? We can share and stay within doctor’s orders.”
He watched as Caryn retrieved a bottle from the small refrigerator and opened the drawer looking for a corkscrew. She looked over her shoulder to flash a smile. “Sorry, no wine glasses.”
“No problem.” He couldn’t take his eyes off her. Even in shorts and a slightly sweaty Suns T-shirt, she sparked a familiar fire in his body. His hands itched to free the golden hair from its low ponytail and run his fingers though it. Her familiar citrus scent stirred intense memories of showers they’d shared and he longed to skim his lips across her skin. She leaned to brush her lips against his before she perched on the arm of his chair. Her sparkling amber eyes issued an invitation that matched his thoughts as she handed him the bottle and corkscrew.
“Don’t want to risk it?” he teased.
“Only have the one bottle. You’re the expert.”
He opened the bottle and poured a small amount of wine into the glass she held. Putting his arm around her, his eyes held hers captive. “To our love.”
“Our love,” Caryn whispered, her voice suddenly choked. She sipped the wine, her eyes never leaving Andrew’s, then handed the glass to him. He set it, the wine bottle and corkscrew on the table, and then he closed his arms around her, drawing her onto his lap as his lips sought hers.
“Cary, I love you so much.” The rising tide of emotion swept them into a sea where wave after wave of love and desire crashed over them. After an eternity, Andrew pulled back slightly, smiling softly when he saw Caryn’s flushed cheeks. She reached to tenderly stroke the hair on the side of his head.
“I love you, Drew. More than you’ll ever know.” Her voice was a hoarse whisper. She shook her head as her eyes filled with tears. “I was so afraid I’d lose you.”
He caught her hand and pressed her palm against his lips. “Never.” As his fingers played with the edge of her T-shirt, Caryn’s hands gripped his shoulders tightly. He captured her gasp of pleasure with his mouth, and closed his mind to everything except the onrushing waves of desire that continued to crash around them. She murmured a protest when he pulled back slightly, but Andrew didn’t speak. He caught her eyes, almost dark brown with desire and nodded his head toward the bedroom. Caryn smiled in understanding as she stepped from his lap and held out her hand.

This is the 2nd book in the Clearing The Ice series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. Since it is a series that continues, it is advised to read this series in order.
Andrew and Caryn's story continues in this new installment. Everything hits the fan when Andrew is hurt and it throws their life into chaos. They find out who their real friends and family are that come to help.
Caryn knows she does not want to live without Andrew. He is just such a big part of her life. When tragedy strikes, she learns who to trust and who to ignore.
This book was full of emotions for me. I felt the roller coaster ride that she was on. I sure hope to read the next installment as this series is just amazing.

1. Do you listen to music while you write?
I don’t listen while I’m writing, but I do listen to music when I’m developing a storyline in my mind.
2. Do you ever make playlists (music) for your books?
Yes. While in Paris, we discovered a French-Canadien singer, Garou. His music is not available on iTunes in the US, so I bought every CD from either France or Canada. We also saw him in concert during the Montreal International Jazz Festival. He’s a mega-star everywhere but the US—Some songs are in French and others English. His music comprises the playlist for the Clearing the Ice Series—This Piece of My Heart and This Piece of My Soul. (He’s also quite sexy—just an added bonus!)

3. What was your favorite book as a child/adolescent?
I devoured the Little House on the Prairie series when I was 8-9. I could not wait to go to the library each week to get the next book in the series.
4. What is your favorite sport?
Hockey! Atlanta has had two NHL franchises move away, so my favorite team now is the New York Rangers. (Figured they are not going anywhere!) If I win the lottery, I’ll buy a team and ensure it stays in Atlanta!
5. What is it you hope your readers will take away from your book?
A few hours of enjoyment and escape from the day-to-day…And of course, eagerly anticipate the next book in the series!
6. We love getting to know you! Will you share something with us you have not told anyone yet?
Sex scenes are the most difficult to write. Twelve years’ Catholic education may play a role in this. To this day, I don’t wear patent leather shoes. Thus, my books leave” specifics” to the reader’s imagination.
THIS PIECE OF MY SOUL is the continuation of Andrew and Caryn Chadwick’s story. The novel starts out with the couple getting ready to go on vacation to celebrate their second anniversary. Unexpectedly, Andrew gets a lucrative offer to sign with the Tampa Suns, where they relocate from St. Louis. Andrew suffers a life-threatening injury that puts the couple’s marriage through some major tests.
The plot was very compelling and emotional. The couple truly loves one another. They are a good team. They didn’t want to hurt each other, but continually seemed to do so. They were put in a difficult situation with a lot of obstacles. My heart went out to both characters. Prior to the accident, things were going well for them. They are deeply in love, and they would do anything for each other. It was interesting to see how they reacted to things differently, like the accident.
Andrews physical therapist, Kristen Turner, caused some tension within the story. She was a manipulative character. Add in the strain from Caryn’s parents and the couple has unneeded extra stress to their situation.
Andrew and Caryn make some wonderful new friends from the Tampa Suns. I love Kelly and John Peterson. I love all the support from Andrew’s brother, Tom. I think it is great that he temporarily relocates to help the couple out. I love that Dr. Forster mentors him. I also appreciate, Lauren’s friendship with Caryn. She alleviates a lot of stress for Caryn.
I read a lot of sport fiction. I appreciated the look down the road to recovery for an athlete and how long the process can be. Recognizing the pressures, it puts on the athlete and family.
I really enjoyed THIS PIECE OF MY SOUL. It was an emotional look at how quickly things can change. It is a story about love and perseverance. I did feel the story occasionally dragged, which is why I am giving 4.5 verses five stars. However, I really enjoyed the story, and recommend the read. I like how the story ended. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
