The Sleep Tight Motel
The Sleep Tight Motel - Lisa Unger

So this was a really good atmospheric scary short story. I loved the location of the motel. I loved the main character. And I loved the slightly eerie motel owner. The only reason that I gave this four stars is that I did see the ending coming. Also this story left me with so many questions. I could have read even more after I got done.

"The Sleep Tight Motel" follows a young woman named Eve. Eve is on the run. We don't know what from at first, but then readers quickly find out from her boyfriend. We don't know what happened, but then clues drift in and out of the story. Eve eventually stops at a country motel and stays the night. Eve is so tired and scared and reflects on her relationship. The hotel owner, Drew, seems very nice, maybe a bit too nice.

So no spoilers, but I thought this was a great pick me-up after "Hannah Beast." Unger plays all the notes in this short story perfectly. Things slowly get revealed to you as you read and I kept thinking I knew what was coming next and was wrong. I was right about one big thing though which is why I sit here now smugly writing my review. Seriously though, this had a wonderful atmosphere. I could see readers snuggling down to this story in the fall or around Halloween. Or heck on a rainy day with lots of fog rolling in.

I felt for Eve since this story is honestly about regrets and the things that you wish you can change, but cannot. And as I said above, I had so many questions after I finished!

Hold Tight
Hold Tight - Harlan Coben My first Harlan Coben book. Will definitely not be my last. The story itself was really good, but not the best I've read. I absolutely love his writing style though.

Release Day Review! Hold On Tight (Lazarus Rising #6) Cynthia Eden!
Hold On Tight - Cynthia Eden

Lazarus super soldier Jett is the perfect predator. He’s faster, stronger, and far deadlier than a normal man—because he isn’t normal. Brought back from the dead, Jett is supposed to be little more than a machine. His heart should be ice cold, but it’s not. His heart beats fast and hard for the one woman he should never be able to possess, Savannah Jacobs.

He’s the hero she didn’t expect.

When Savannah is kidnapped, she doesn’t think she’ll escape her captors. Then mysterious Jett breaks in and takes out all of the men in the room—the masked men who’d yanked her right off a busy public street—and Jett barely breaks a sweat in the fight. Jett is tall, dark, and as sexy as every sin that Savannah can imagine. When he takes her to safety, desire explodes between them. Savannah falls fast and hard for Jett…then he walks away.

But he broke her heart.

Jett knows he can’t have Savannah. A woman as perfect and sweet as Savannah can’t possibly stay in the nightmare that is his world. He gives her up—the hardest thing he’s ever had to do—and disappears from her life. But then Jett learns that he’s been set-up. Savannah was kidnapped as part of a dark plan to throw her and Jett together, and, now, Savannah is in more danger than ever before. She’s pregnant with his child—the first woman to conceive the child of a Lazarus test subject—and Jett’s enemies will stop at nothing to get her and the baby she carries.

And she can’t ever forgive him.

Jett has to protect Savannah—and the baby. His problem? Savannah hates him, and she knows nothing about the secrets he carries. He has to earn back her trust, he has to fight for the woman who owns his heart…and he also has to reveal the painful truth about himself to her. Jett is a dead man walking. A soldier without a soul.

HOLD ON TIGHT…the Lazarus soldiers are back, and they are ready to raise some hell.

The Lazarus soldiers are back in another exhilarating and explosive romantic suspense that holds on tight to readers from beginning to end. Jett and Savannah draw readers in with their strong, convincing characters and their electrical chemistry during a progressive relationship that is full of major obstacles, sizzling red-hot passion and thrilling danger. The readers easily connect to these two characters as they navigate their romance while fighting off bad guys that have a very long reach and readers can’t help but become caught up in their story.

Adrenaline pumping thrills and excitement keeps readers glued to the pages as an enemy with a diabolical and long term plan tries to capture or eliminate Jett and Savannah. Surprising twists and explosive action ensures that there is never a dull moment throughout this fast paced and smooth flowing plot that the author has brought to brilliant life with her well written words and brilliant creativity.

I can’t get enough of the page turning Lazarus Rising series and Jett and Savannah’s story is one fascinating no-holes barred, read that I couldn’t put down. The story is in two parts as it begins with how Jett met Savannah and the second part picks up in the present where Jett discovers that is entirely possible for him to father a child. The whole concept of these altered military men and their devious enemies is intriguing and with some unique elements that makes it different from others and ensures that readers come back for more, needless to say, I am looking forward to the next book.

REVIEW BY MERISSA - Tight Quarters (Out of Uniform #6) by Annabeth Albert
Tight Quarters (Out of Uniform #6) - Annabeth Albert

Tight Quarters is the sixth book in the Out of Uniform series, and if M/M Romance mixed in with a Military scenario does it for you, then you really need to check out this series.

In this book, we reunite with Bacon (and yep, that is his real name!). He is none too happy because he has been stuck with babysitting duty for an embedded journalist, one he actually admires and knows is gay. Bacon himself is Pan, and I loved him for it. Now, Bacon has a history, and is a SEAL. Bryant is a gay journalist. Whatever could go wrong?

This is a book of two halves - the first part being with Spencer embedded and them both fighting their attraction. The second is when Spencer is no longer in the team, and they give up fighting. I honestly can't tell you which half I prefer! For differing reasons, both parts are fantastic, and definitely make up the whole.

With stories that need to be written, but jobs that need to be protected, these two face a horrible decision that left me crossing my fingers and hoping for a happy ending. No knowledge of the American Military is needed as Ms. Albert gives out enough information for it all to make sense, without disclosing any secrets.

I keep thinking to myself that this series can't go on for much longer. How many different military stories can one author do? And then Ms. Albert comes out with something new, something refreshing and unique that makes me fall in love with her characters all over again. How many is too many? I don't have the answer to that, but I do know I definitely need more in this series. Absolutely and highly recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and my comments here are my honest opinion. *

Knit Tight (Portland Heat) Annabeth Albert Review
Knit Tight - Annabeth Albert

One of Portland’s hottest young baristas, Brady is famous for his java-topping flair, turning a regular cup of joe into a work of art. Every Wednesday—aka “Knit Night”—hordes of women and their needles descend on the coffeehouse, and Brady’s feeling the heat. Into the fray walks a tall, dark, and distractingly handsome stranger from New York. His name is Evren, and he’s the sexy nephew of Brady’s sweetest customer, the owner of the yarn shop down the street. He’s also got a killer smile, confident air, and masculine charm that’s tying Brady’s stomach in knots. The smitten barista can’t wait to see him at the next week’s gathering. But when he tries to ask Evren out, his plans unravel faster than an unfinished edge. If Brady hopes to warm up more than Evren’s coffee, he’ll have to find a way to untangle their feelings, get out of the friend zone, and form a close-knit bond that’s bound to last a lifetime…

Review

I like a great deal about this romance.

Brady is wonderful hardworking young man. He is providing for his family when his world collides with Evern a famous knit blogger who has come home to care for his Aunt and her yarn shop as she fights cancer.

Evern nor Brady have time to fall in love. When they decided its too late this becomes a compelling and kind romance about make room.

However, Evern is really closed in and the aspects of his character like his art and cultural background don't get explored as much as I would like. The issues with Brady's younger sister are really left tangled (this might be a reality but it didn't make for the best read.)

I love Brady but I wanted to feel as strongly about Evern for the book to be a real success. It still adds nicely to the series.
