Complicated
Dirty Games (The Dirty Series) - HelenKay Dimon

This is the second book in the Dirty series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader understanding and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading the series in order.

Justin and Finn have a sort of antagonistic past.  Both of them have been insanely attracted to one another, but for some reason cannot stand the other.  This keeps them apart, which is good, since Finn could now be considered Justin's boss.

Finn has come a long way to try and solve problems that Justin asked for help with.  His reception when he arrives, however, is lacking.  Anger seems to be what the men have in common and it keeps them apart.

This was a story so full of interesting subjects.  Like other books in the series, the characters just seem so real to life leaping off the page.  I love the banter, even the anger, since it shows such real emotion.  This book gives us such compelling characters and storyline - I cannot wait to read the next installment!  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

New Charity Blues
New Charity Blues - Camille Griep

New Charity Blues is marketed as a retelling of the Trojan War, but as such, the comparisons are rather subtle and I wouldn't recommend it being read like that. After a devastating plague survivors have scrambled together to form two communities, one poor, one relatively rich. When one girl is allowed into the New Charity from the City, she is surprised to see the riches there and she might hold the future of the entire world in her hands.

This was an interesting read. The focus was not so much on the post-apocalyptic setting of the story but more about relevant questions of good and evil, what we would like and what we should do. As such, very interesting. The dual POV was not my favourite but I enjoyed reading the novel nevertheless.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Dreamtime Dragons Anthology
Dreamtime Dragons - Nils Visser

by Nils Visser et al

This is an outstanding collection of stories, all having to do with dragons in some way. The stories are from twelve different authors so styles vary, but there wasn't a dud in the bunch. One by the editor was written in present tense, but it was actually done well which is rare.

I've read a few of the authors before so I knew I could expect above average quality for at least some, but I was pleasantly surprised overall. I've added A.J. Noon to my favorite author list and sent for samples of his other work. I do like a bit of humor in my Fantasy!

The editing was also above average, even for big publisher books. I counted four minor typos for the whole book, plus two in the author bio section. I bet they didn't check there!

It was an enjoyable collection and included sample chapters from some of the authors' other books as well, but they were self-contained segments that didn't leave me wondering what was going on.

It's also good knowing that any money generated from the project is going to a ferret rescue center. So a good read and something to help animals. Win-win! And the cover art is amazing!
