Kato (Stone Warriors # 2) by D.B. Reynolds Review
The Stone Warriors: Kato: The Stone Warr... The Stone Warriors: Kato: The Stone Warriors, Book 2 - D. B. Reynolds

It was a time when gods walked the earth, when armies fought not for bits of land, but for the very existence of humanity. On such a battlefield, five formidable warriors stood against an evil greater than any the earth had ever seen. But evil is not an honorable foe. Betrayed by someone they trusted, the warriors were cursed, one by one, tossed into the maelstrom of time, imprisoned in stone, their freedom resting on nearly impossible conditions. Until...

Kato Amadi...born of darkest sorcery, unstoppable on the battlefield, his magic is as deadly as his blade. But not even magic could save him from vicious betrayal. Trapped for millennia in darkness and silence, he is freed at last, only to find himself in the middle of a battle against the very beasts of hell he was created to destroy.

Grace Van Allen is a scholar of ancient languages who toils in the dim recesses of a museum basement with only a beautiful stone warrior to keep her company. But when Grace calls upon her silent warrior to help her translate an obscure new language, she breaks the ancient curse holding him prisoner...and frees three deadly demons to rampage through her city.

Tracking demons is what Kato was born to do, but he’ll need Grace’s help. And when they discover that Kato’s enemy is still alive and still plotting against him, their hunt takes a dangerous turn, one that might just prove fatal for both of them...

As you probably know D.B. Reynolds, Vampires is America series is one hot world that is full of sexy vampires and this spin off series is just as hot and sexy only we now have sorcerers, magic and curses to spark the imagination.

The second book in the Stone Warriors series certainly has sparks flying and the imagination soaring. Kato is one hunky warrior with some awesome magic and fighting skills, but he’s also got that dark, dangerous but vulnerable vibe going on that reaches out grabs readers’ hearts. Grace is a spunky heroine that adds some spice to the story as her character starts off seemingly vulnerable but surprises readers with quite a few admirable traits and an ability to roll with the punches. The romance between Kato and Grace is hot and deliciously sexy and made me green with envy, I mean what red blooded woman wouldn’t love to wake up her very own hunky warrior just in the nick of time.

The plot is full of twists and turns and keeps readers wondering about a variety of different aspects of the story, the main characters, the supporting characters and most especially the bad guys. Believe me when I tell you that the author is one step ahead of you and the danger has increased with this story as the evil villain has more tricks up his sleeve and continues to lead Nick and his warriors on a perilous chase.

Kato is a fascinating read that kept me glued to the pages and ended with me wanting more; when is the next book coming out? I really can’t wait to read the next one as it seems we just might get to travel to Japan… hmm….

5 STARS

Kato is the 2nd book in the

Stone Warrior Series

A Witch's Handbook of Kisses & Curses / Molly Harper
A Witch's Handbook of Kisses and Curses - Molly Harper

Nola Leary would have been content to stay in Kilcairy, Ireland, healing villagers at her family’s clinic with a mix of magic and modern medicine. But a series of ill-timed omens and a deathbed promise to her grandmother have sent her on a quest to Half-Moon Hollow, Kentucky, to secure her family’s magical potency for the next generation. Her supernatural task? To unearth four artifacts hidden by her grandfather before a rival magical family beats her to it.

Complication One: Her grandfather was Mr. Wainwright and the artifacts are lost somewhere in what is now Jane Jameson's book shop.

Complication Two: her new neighbor, Jed Trudeau, who keeps turning up half naked at the strangest times, a distraction Nola doesn't need. And teaming up with a real-life Adonis is as dangerous as it sounds, especially when he’s got the face of an angel and the abs of a washboard—can Nola complete her mission before falling completely under his spell?

***2017 Summer Lovin’ Reading List***

An Irish witch on a special mission to Half Moon Hollow. It’s a cute, fun paranormal romance, in Molly Harper’s inimitable style. But it’s the intersection of this story with the continued adventures of Jane Jameson and Dick Cheney that truly made this worthwhile for me. I’m always interested in whatever shenanigans that Dick is enmeshed in and he features heavily in this book.

Half Nola’s adventures, half the Dick & Jane show, there is just enough of each to keep the plot moving along and to keep me smiling. Perhaps a bit predictable, but with enough humour & snark to keep me reading.

Recommended as light, fluffy summer material.

So I think I know what I will be doing this weekend!  I've been fighting with a nasty cold ever since I got home from Seattle, so I'm hoping to catch up on my sleep as well as get the necessary laundry, cooking, and housekeeping done.

But, I have Thunder Heights on interlibrary loan, so it can't be renewed.  Also, No Rest for the Wicked and Darkfever have holds on them, so I'll have to return them soon, too.

After those three, I'll be able to pick & choose.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses is book two in the Half-Moon Hollow series by Molly Harper.

It’s been sometime since I’ve read the Jane Jameson series. The Half-Moon Hollow is a spin-off. Many of the characters from the Jane Jameson series make appearances and in this one we have a new character from across the pond, Nola! She’s been sent by her family to find 4 sacred objets needed to keep a curse in place.

The characters are unique and charismatic. We are brought into the supernatural area of magic. It’s a different focus from what the books have been, vampires, and we are also introduced to another supernatural being too. Nola makes friends with a small group of the Half-Moon Hollow gang. She settles in, starts her search, and gets herself a little work. I don’t want to spoil things, so I won’t mention all the fun things that happen in the search or the family ties. I got a little kick out of who Nola ends up being related too.

The romance for me was blasé. It didn’t dislike it, but I didn’t fully feel it. I enjoyed the mystery, fun banter between characters, and the family surprise.

For me A Witch’s Handbook of Kisses and Curses was a fine read.

Owner/Review and mind behind Angel’s Guilty Pleasures. However what I am not is a writer. I apologize now for the grammatical and punctuation errors I make, because I know I’m going to make them. I’m a mother, wife, dog owner, animal, and book lover. My favorite animals are horses. As for reading I love all things paranormal & urban fantasy. My favorite shifters are dragons!
