Review! Dasher's Fated Mate (Arctic Shifters #2) R.E. Butler!
Dasher's Fated Mate (Arctic Shifters Book 2) - R. E. Butler

When Mrs. Claus sneaks away from the North Pole on Christmas Eve, Santa sends out a security team to bring her home before dawn on Christmas Day. The team follows the tracking beacon in Mrs. Claus’s coat to downtown New York City, finding her in the crowded streets of the human city. They hustle her into an alley and use magic to take her home to North Pole City.

Merri Blevins has had a rough night. Not only was her adorable elf costume unavailable at the costume store, forcing her to take a Mrs. Claus costume, but she’s late for a Christmas Eve party in New York City. It’s cold, it’s crowded, it’s late, and a crazy woman dressed just like Merri bumps into her and nearly sends her toppling into the gutter. Could her night get any worse?

When Rhys is called by the security team to return to his bedroom after the Christmas Eve run because of a problem with Mrs. Claus, he realizes immediately that the woman wearing the traditional red dress is not Mrs. Claus but his fated mate. She’s human. She’s pissed. And he has to take her back to her human world before dawn or she’ll be trapped in North Pole City for a year. Can Rhys convince her to give him a chance to prove his worth as a mate, or will Merri demand she be taken home immediately? Only Santa knows what the future will bring.

Mrs. Claus has pulled a fast one in this delightfully sweet romance in the Arctic Shifters series. Rhys and Merri are wonderfully strong characters that warm the heart and brings smiles to the reader’s face. The charming holiday setting and the magical world of the North Pole adds a fascination and appeal to the story while the fast paced and smooth flowing plot holds readers in thrall with the building anticipation as the readers await to discover if Merri and Rhys can makes this ‘fated mate’ business into a relationship, after all only Santa knows what the future will bring. The author spins such a wonderful tale with some imaginative and magical shifters that are unique in several aspects which adds to the attraction of the story although I do wish it was a bit longer because I wasn’t ready to leave the captivating world.

A midwesterner by birth, R.E. lives on the East Coast now, enjoying the seagulls and the ocean. When she's not writing, you'll find her curled up with her Kindle, playing with her kids, or jonesing for chocolate.

Author of five series, R.E. loves to explore the supernatural and dream about what might be if people really did get furry once a month.

Quit by Viola Grace Quit (Terran Times Second Wave, #36) by Viola Grace Review
Quit (Terran Times Second Wave Book 36) - Viola Grace

When Minny’s life changes, a career as a recruiter isn’t half as tempting as the new ambassador to Earth.

Minerva has been acting as Recruiter Norz for years. Her mind can split into eight different directions and propel the bot bodies in areas where the alien might be in danger.

When her daughter was taken from her too soon, she had to split her off time between taking care of herself and monitoring her child growing in the tank. In the battle between her and her child, she was losing herself.

Imbolt has been on his way to Terra for some time. His genetic match had produced a daughter, and five months from now, she would be out in the world. Unfortunately, the woman he had been matched with would not make it if he didn’t take matters into his hands and out of hers.

Review

This is a very good ending to a very long series.

The series is an interesting one in that the enjoyment of the books is a cumulative one. Each short story is rather underdeveloped but as the books grow and grow the narrative becomes rich and engrossing.

The series is an expensive habit though. I try to borrow as well as purchase the books because the cost per book length is often not well balanced. However, I like supporting a writer's livelihood and knowing that the price off the books allows her to write.

A few books in this long running series feel route and like a money making machine rather than fiction which also makes money.

This book is not one of those. We get a full fleshed love story that explores grief and leaning into each other.

This is a very good way to close out this world of which the author was clearly weary but this book doesn't show it.

HUS'ABARON: The Warlord's Reluctant Bride (Sky Protectors Book 2) by Clara Hart Review
Alien Romance: HUS'ABARON: The Warlord's Reluctant Bride (Sky Protectors Book 2) - Clara Hart

His warriors want her dead, the Council wants her dead, in fact, his entire planet wants this uninvited visitor dead for good…

He turns to the rest of his men. They all await his command, and why wouldn't they? He is not just Abaron, not even H'Abaron. He is Hus'Abaron, he is the High Hador, the Great Hunter, Lord of Hunters, and he answers only to the Council, and sometimes not even to them.

Yet Hus'Abaron doesn’t understand why he would stop at nothing to protect this earthling and claim her as his bride.

Review

Sigh. This book had a lot of promise but fell flat. Hard.

The writing was actually a nice mix of show and tell with good dialogue and smart main characters.  The plot of a science fiction romance staple of stranded on a planet meet a new culture but I love that.

A fated mate romance, yes, but not insta love on the part of the heroine. The heroine is a linguist anthropologist and we get to actually see her be a genius (as opposed to being told how intelligent a character is with no evidence at all) and interpret  the world through these lenses. Awesome!

The hero is reasonable and interesting.

So, what happened. Oh the strangest of typos everywhere. It feels like scanning errors. The cover doesn't look anything like the hero is suppose to look.

But mainly, the book just gets to a certain point in the romance, they are together, and it quits. The world building ends and there is really so much story to go but it runs out of stream. Sad and frustrated.

Govern by Viola Grace Review
Govern - Viola Grace

A woman, with a foul temper and her own spaceship, ends up an escort for a stunned ambassador. Her perfect mate.

Leo runs her ship with precision and an attitude shaped by pain. Gathering an ambassador in stasis, she is surprised to find his ability to match her innermost desires, and he is surprised to find that she wants him in his own form and not the one she craves.

Ambassador Wikkio is a Beholder. Born to a race that can change to match any other species right down to venom or scales, he is an ideal representative for races who are skittish around strangers. Meeting Govern surprises him. He had not thought to meet the woman of his dreams when he woke from cold sleep and never had he imaged that he would enjoy his woman sharpening her wit on his hide.

The Gold Fairy brought them together, and now, she is determined to keep them that way.

Yea! Such a great cranky heroine (she has good reason) with a cool shapeshifting hero.

This heroine really needs and deserves love so this romance is particularly compelling.

We also get a ship with a mind of her own. Fun!

Knell (Terran Times Second Wave Book 5) ... Viola Grace Review
Knell (Terran Times Second Wave Book 5) - Viola Grace

Hearing the future isn’t as useless as Dot thinks, but she finds herself in the arms of a Guardian who wants her here and now.

Dot has spent nearly half her life in a private home for those who have trouble with reality. Finding out that her talent for hearing the future is actually useful, she agrees to leave her residence to find a place that she has dreamed of. A world where her talent can be put to use.

Loxin has dreamed of the woman his matchmaker told him about but finding her applying to be an Oracle on his base surprises him. No one told him the woman he was destined for could sense the future, but then, no one outside his family and the destiny painter on Yacaro had known about her.

Together, they will fulfill each other’s needs and protect a world constantly under siege…with a little help from the other Guardians.

Review

A lovely short Science Fiction Romance where the heroine comes into her own and the hero is steadfast.
