Book Review ~ Unforgiven: A Soulkeepers Novel by Lori Adams
Unforgiven: A Soulkeepers Novel (The Soulkeepers Book 3) - Lori Adams

Synopsis ~

Otherworldly desire and paranormal action reach new heights in the final installment of The Soulkeepers. As Sophia St. James moves Heaven and Hell to claim her destiny, questions are answered, secrets are revealed—and immortal love is tested.

After finally becoming a powerful Spirit Walker, Sophia St. James is shocked to discover that her conjured identical twin, Ka—along with her soul—have been dragged down to Hell by the relentless Demon Knight Dante. Sophia tries to hide the crisis, but there is little hope of keeping any secrets from her red-hot Guardian Angel. Growing suspicious, Michael has been making plans of his own that will bind him and Sophia together forever.

But Sophia is plagued with evil visions through Ka’s experiences in Hell. She is terrified that Dante will discover he has taken the wrong Sophia. Desperate to return to her original state before she withers away and dies, she risks everything to go where Michael can’t follow. To bring back Ka and save her own soul, Sophia must now enter the gates of Hell.

My Thoughts ~

Before I even begin, I want to thank Random House Publishing and NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to review this amazing book! The first two installments of the Soulkeepers saga have been so amazingly epic; you can’t even imagine the happiness that filled my heart when I was able to get my hands on an ARC of Unforgiven.  Was it everything I expected it to be?  Oh my, YES - plus so much more than I could ever hope for.

Let’s touch on the cover before I dive into my thoughts.  The covers for the first two books in the Soulkeepers series have been beautiful, but this one?  I absolutely LOVE it!  So dark, but yet you know there is about to be an amazing love story between two people.  But who will win Sophia’s heart, Dante or Michael?

Now, on to my thoughts.

The action starts off right where Awaken left off and Sophia has gotten herself in quite a mess.  Her soul has been ripped from her and placed in her double, Ka, who just happens to be in hell with Dante.  Sophia has to keep this a secret because, well who would want a Spirit Guide without a soul helping you cross over?

Dante is happy as he can be because he believes Sophia finally remembers her past life and the love they had for each other.  As he plans for their life together in Hell, he is totally clueless on what is really going on.  Ka doesn’t help matters any, because she is remembering the love that was lost and now believes she will have everything her heart desires, including power.

In Awaken, I will be the first to admit that Michael really did piss me off, but this time around, he redeemed himself.  He now understands that Sophia needs to be her own, unique self and he is 100% on her side and supporting her just as she deserves.  Yet, there is still that little problem that is preventing them to be together – guardian angels are forbidden from loving humans.  Will love conquer all?  Well, just read this amazing story to find out!

Just when I thought that Lori Adams couldn't possibly improve what was already perfection, she showed once again what an amazing writer she is by exceeding my expectations – and believe me, they were high.  Unforgiven is so uniquely captivating and so utterly compelling I really had to struggle to put this book down.  With tons of action, hot romance and characters you can’t help but love and love to hate, Unforgiven is a definite must read that I would highly recommend to any fans of paranormal romance.

Unforgiven: A Soulkeepers Novel (The Soulkeepers Book 3)
Unforgiven: A Soulkeepers Novel (The Soulkeepers Book 3) - Lori Adams Received via NetGalley from the Flirt team (Random House Publishing Group/Loveswept) in exchange for an honest and completely unbiased review.

----

Mrs Adams does it again in the third and final installment of the SoulKeepers series. Sophia is finally a Spirit Walker after so many ordeals, but when her soul, in the form of Ka, is taken to hell by obsessive Dante Sophia must risk it all to rescue it. She can’t let her angelic boyfriend (Michael) know her secrets: Ka, her recent history with Dante or the possibility she could lose her soul forever.

Michael, on the other hand, has to find the demon spy hiding in their midst while wrestling with being the newest and youngest recruit for the Halos. Michael must hide the ever impossible relationship he has with Sophia or he could lose everything including his beautiful wings.

I loved the first two SoulKeeper novels and enjoyed the dramatics behind the forbidden romance. Learning of Sophia’s destiny to become a Spirit Walker was unexpected and her training seemed grueling. Although I never understood Sophia’s choice to create Ka it fortunately enabled us to learn more about Hell and Dante’s sad history. Ka’s experiences in Hell allow us to learn about ancient Italy, Sophia’s past lives and Dante’s role in making Sophia who she is in her current incarnation. Adams reveals why Sophia is so special and powerful while leading us to the dramatic conclusion of the SoulKeepers trilogy.

The book moves slowly, working up its pace until the very end. It took me a very long time to work through the first half of the book, yet absolutely no time to finish once Sophia got herself into action. The full brunt of the prophecy comes to the forefront near the end of the book, giving us a new vision for heaven, and extends Adams’ world building. Heaven is full of bigots and are not perfect, but Sophia and Michael can change that. This book was a dooozy in world building, changes and growth for all of the main characters as they come to grips with the revelations from this book. And the revelations are stunning..once you get there.

It will be interesting to see the next series set in the SoulKeeper universe because Adams has totally set us up for more!

I recommended this book for previous readers of the SoulKeepers series, people who love fantasy, angel fiction, romance and new adult romance with a dash of the paranormal. I would say this is worth the read and a fantastic end for Sophia St James and the Patronus family.

Book Review ~ Awaken (The Soulkeepers #2) by Lori Adams
Awaken: The Soulkeepers - Lori Adams
First off, I want to thank Random House Publishing and NetGalley for providing me the opportunity to review this awesome book!

Second, take a look at that cover!  I absolutely LOVE the cover!  It is so beautiful and practically begs you to open the book and continue the Soulkeeper journey!

Now, on to my thoughts.

Sophia survived the 'kiss of death' from Damon and is eagerly waiting to begin her Awakening so that she can become Spirit Walker, helping lost souls cross over.  This is something that she really wants to do, but Michael puts a damper on things and tells Sophia that he does not want her to continue, declaring that it is far too dangerous.  Sophia is having none of that nonsense and continues with her training with her awesome and funny spiritual trainer, Rama.  She really is determined to become a Spirit Walker and she's not going to let anyone stand in her way to accomplish her goal.  There was one point in the story where she was having a difficult time keeping up with her school work and her training, so she and Bailey come up with an idea to help in the matter.  Not a good idea.  Not. At. All!  Nothing good will come from this action and I believed at the time that it would bite her in the butt later on, and if I'm right, it did.  Of course with the cliffhanger ending, I guess we won't know until the next book.  But despite all of that, Sophia's character has really shown some growth since book one.

Michael has been selected as a candidate for the Halos, so he is spending most of his time in the story training for the trials.  The trials are tough and grueling, but Michael really shows he can kick some major butt.   I am really frustrated with his character because he really changed, becoming controlling and possessive toward Sophia.  I realized he is under a lot of pressure competing in the trials, but really that is no excuse to be angry and bossy toward Sophia.  I am just torn right now about this sudden change.  I really do believe he still loves Sophia, but his actions just suck.

And then there's Damon.  After his failure in the first book, he has been subjected to horrible punishments and has endured a lot of pain in Hell's version of jail.  Still determined to reclaim the soul of his lost love, he, along with Vaughn, escape from the depths of hell so that he can bring Sophia back with him to live forever in Hell.  He only has limited time to accomplish this and he is doing everything in his power to draw Sophia to him.  I really do like Damon and at this point I hope that he succeeds, but, and that is a big but, he needs to find a way to stay in a non-hell like environment so Sophia does not have to endure his hellish home.  And let's be honest, Sophia and Michael can't ever be a couple unless they find a loophole or something, so I think Damon is perfect for her.  I know, I'm crazy, but Damon is so sexy and so sweet when he wants to be. Can you tell I'm Team Damon?

Lori Adams has done the impossible - perfected perfection.  I thought that Forbidden was amazing, but Awaken is so much better.  More action, more romance and well, just more everything I love in a paranormal romance.  Everything about the story flowed so smoothly and so effortlessly.  From page one I was sucked into this amazing story of angels and demons and forbidden love, and before I knew it, I was at the end.  The cliffhanger at the end (and yes, it is a HUGE cliffhanger) left me begging for the next book immediately!  I will be eagerly and not so patiently waiting for its release.

If you are looking for an amazing and unique paranormal romance that never has a dull moment, has an intense love-triangle, fabulous characters and a captivating, action-filled plot, then look no further than this highly addictive series.

Awaken (The Soulkeepers #2) By Lori Adams
Awaken: The Soulkeepers - Lori Adams

Sophia St. James has every reason to be happy: she survived the kiss of death from the seductive Demon Knight Dante and is free to be with Michael, her sexy Guardian Angel. She eagerly begins her Awakening to become a Spirit Walker and help lost souls cross over. But her training is fraught with setbacks, and Michael begs her to stop. The life of a Spirit Walker is far too dangerous, and he won’t be able to protect her.

Then Dante returns, threatening to drag Sophia to Hell so they can finally be together. Terrified of losing everything she has worked for, Sophia turns the tables on Dante, luring him into a deception that may get them both killed. The stakes climb even higher when Dante’s ally, Wolfgang, emerges from Hell with one order: kill Sophia. Will Michael once again be Sophia’s saving grace or will the Awakening give her the power she needs to save herself.

Ok let’s start off with that I liked this book a lot more than the first. Except that some of the dialog is till kind of childish at times, funny but childish. The book starts a couple weeks after the last one finished. We learn fairly early in this book that there was a demon spy all in book one. Wow. Want to know who??  Well read the book …lol

Sophia is doing a lot of growing up this book and starting to become her own person, I also liked that she no longer doubts herself to her abilities as much as she used to. She is eager to start her training to be a spirit walker and super excited, but Michael the person she most cares about doesn’t want her to do it , because of the danger involved. That can cause some problems between the two.

On top of that Dante crawled back out of hell and this time he is not messing around and will do anything to drag Sophie with him back to hell.

I liked Sophie and her strength, she is a nice character.

I loved Michael in the first book but he really is getting on my nerves in this book. While I could understand his point of view most of the time, I thought he was just selfish. Which is an odd trait for a guardian angel.

Dante is the same old Dante as the first book just more aggressive in his goal. I still didn’t care for him.

The ending was just awesome and cruel at the same time .OMG , makes me wish the third and last book was out already. I will for sure read the third book.

Over all it was a great book, filled with action and twist and turns and I enjoyed it a lot.

I give it 4 ½
