Blog Tour w/Review - Faking It

Faking It

by Carly Phillips & Erika Wilde

Date of Publication: April 11, 2017

Blurb:

Confirmed bachelor Max Sterling isn't into rescuing damsels in distress, but when the very tempting Hailey Ellison needs his help, there's only one thing for him to do. Step in and pose as her loving fiancé. Except there is nothing fake about his attraction to her, or how much he wants her beneath him in his bed, moaning his name. But what starts as a sexy, flirty, temporary engagement, quickly becomes something more serious that neither one ever anticipated.

Faking ItFaking It by Carly Phillips
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book #2 in the Book Boyfriend series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. I recommend reading this series in order.

Hailey is saved by Max when a nosy busybody interferes in her life. The consequences of the save, however, means they must play along for a time. Hailey is attracted to Max for real. Could this be a love match?

Max has wanted Hailey for himself for some time. Playing her missing man is easy when he wants to put his hands on her. It gets more complicated as time goes on, but Max has started thinking that the future may need to be different than he thought.

This book has a lot of humor, heat, and heart. I love that the characters are honest with one another. Well, as much as they can be. This was a sexy and fun read.

Wedlocked
Wedlocked - Brooke Blaine,Ella Frank

This was simply perfect.

After crying my eyes out for well over an hour after finishing this book, I am just in utter awe of this couple, this series and these authors.  Yes…let the swoon review begin.

First off, I am so happy that I chose to reread the first two books in this series before taking this one on.  Getting back into the love between these two men and reconnecting with them was exactly what I needed. I had forgotten so many things along the way especially having not read Aced for nearly a year. (See review of Aced here.)  And then come to find out that I clearly was so overwhelmed by my love of Locked that I never even wrote a damn review.

Dammit…and I couldn’t even write it after the reread either.  *repeat shame gif here*

I have to say that after completing this series, this may very well be my absolute favorite MM romance series ever.  *gasp* I know.  But this is truly one of the best “happily ever after” romances I have read.  It has…wait for it…ZERO angst!!!

There is never a doubt that this couple loves each other…that they know they belong together and are what each other needs and to hell with everyone else.

“I know this is a lot to take in. Shit, I haven’t even taken it all in. But if you want this, if you want me, then I’m ready to walk out that door with your hand in mine and tell the world to fuck off.”

It’s a completely feel good romance with literally nothing I can complain about.  Oh wait…for some reason my copy was missing a reference to this…

Not sure what happened to that scene in my book but I am sure it is there somewhere. ;)

And to get to Book 3 and it be solely devoted to the wedding and union between these two amazing characters is unheard of.  We may get a chapter on a wedding, an epilogue or just the promise of a life together, but this book truly enveloped everything there is about the joining of two people who are meant to be together forever.

Gaaahhhh…I could go on and on about what I love about this series and this couple.  On and on…but I will refrain.

There is however the matter of the supporting cast of characters. And I want them all.  Everyone?  Yes…

Sorry…my freak flag just flew a bit.

First off…Derek.  I want to squish this fabulous guy all over.  What an unbelievable character and best friend to our dear Dylan.  And the interactions with our couple and especially here with Jordan and the potential promises for perhaps some future stories, only made me want to pick up their book (Devil’s Kiss) and roll around naked in that one all over  again.

And as Derek is the best man for Dylan, Shayne was truly the best woman for Ace. I loved the scenes of these two together.  Truly a woman who loves this man and knows the love in his heart and his love for Dylan is true.

Sunshine and Ziggy…I am not sure I have ever loved a set of parents more than these two loving and nurturing human beings.  *tears up*  The moments with them on page will be forever engrained in my memory.

Logan and Tate…what is not to love about these two?  They were my first MM crush and to this day they are the go to for me. I love Logan.  As for future books…I leave that for dear Ms. Frank to decide. I am not sure what I think of more of them honestly.  They are so perfect in my mind and just getting these glimpses may very well do it for me forever.

Quinn…Dear, Quinn.  Woman…you got me.  I don’t read a lot of MF anymore but I tell you what…I would read a story about this one here.  Her time on page is short but boy did she leave an impression.

A certain MMF coupling...that my goodness I want like now.  NOW.  I am absolutely intrigued by them and to potentially get a retelling of a certain scene from alternate POVs makes me giddy giddy.

And my gawd…the end of this book *cue tears again* is just unbelievable. I would love to eventually get more stories from the next phase in their lives. We shall see.  Until then I am content with this beautiful happily ever after.  So content.

A fabulous BR with Elsbeth and Teri.

Death's Ink-Black Shadow
Death's Ink-Black Shadow - John Wiltshire

It has been nearly a week since I finished this one and to say that I may have had a meltdown during the first 30% of this book would be putting things rather mild.

I was destroyed.  And not so much about what did or did not happen but what it did to these men. I am tearing up just writing this...even now a week later.

The love between these two men is so strong and yet they fail to realize at times that they physically cannot live without the other.  So damage and destruction they attempt and when they fall apart...I fall apart.

...it was this last confession that undid him. As the words eased out on the exquisite delight of Nikolas once more pulling out and then opening him up and entering again, Ben’s throat seized up, a deep sob emerged, and before he could stop himself, he flung his arms across his face for privacy, and the pleasure was buried under a desolate confusion at who he was.

Nikolas faltered. Ben felt him withdraw, but then he took him in another way. Nikolas’s arms came around him, dragging him into a tight spoon, just holding him as the humiliating sobs wracked his body. He didn’t even know what he was crying for. Once he’d started, he was distraught for that—for the fact that he was so unlike himself, so unmanned by everything in his life that he didn’t know who he had become any more.

It was only when he heard an agonised whisper, “Please don’t, Ben, you’re killing me,” that he turned, forcing himself to calmness, to find Nikolas’s stressed and worn face creased with anguish.

***

Nikolas turned his gaze back from the darkness in the courtyard, which he’d been studying with such intense concentration, and Ben saw the tracks of tears on his cheeks.

It wasn’t the first time he’d seen Nikolas cry. But in over ten years, he could count the number of times on the fingers of one hand. He rose swiftly and embraced him, wrapping his arms around Nikolas’s battered head tightly, pressing it to his shirt. He pushed his own face into the greying blond hair, and with the familiar smell of vanilla and coconut, he came home.

Fucking hell.  Just kill me now.

Now having said all that, I will say this is likely one of my favorite in the series so far. Nik continues to puzzle me at times and it is hard to totally put your hands on what all makes up this man and ultimately I have decided that this is the point.  Because at times even Ben is puzzled as well.  And even with that said, no matter what...you love him.  Ben loves him and will continue to do whatever has to be done for his Nik.

“You are not alone, Nikolas. Never. I’m right here with you, if this is how it has to be. I will kill the whole fucking world for you, if that is what you need.” Ben shook him. “Do you understand me?”

And yes, I am officially in tears wrting this review.

Life wasn’t sunlit uplands and glass houses, vast wealth and running around with your pretty boyfriend in the expensive toys he bought you.

Life was wearing armour too heavy to bear and carrying weapons too eager to be used.

Life was learning to swim hard and fast and keep your head above the shit.

Life was having someone alongside you in every single manoeuvre, every fall, every painful rise again, and knowing that, win or lose, the war was never fought alone.

Damn.

I guess being destroyed means I love this book and this couple. I eagerly await more.

This Other Country
This Other Country - John Wiltshire

So how do you pick a quote or quotes to include when your entire copy is highlighted?  Yeah...you don't. I cannot possibly choose. Whether it's one of the absolutely hilarious moments (yes I said hilarious...and they involve Nik!!!) to one of the most beautifully written descriptions of love and devotion expressed between two characters..there's just no way.

These two men are without a doubt one of my favorite couples of all times. I continue to be amazed by the words that are unbelievably crafted to truly envelope everything that is Nik and Ben.  It's breathtaking.

And seeing how their love stands up to what unfolds here is quite magical. There truly is no one more perfect for the other than these two.

He had no intention of telling Ben the rest of his thought—he needed to learn how to admit Ben was his captor and that, therefore, Ben held all the power.

Yeah, I found a quote. ;)

Special thinks to Teri for the BR, Marco again for convincing me to give this series another try and CinnaMen on FB for her beautiful collection of images.
