Blog Tour w/Review # 2 - WINGING IT

Book Title: Winging It (Corrigan Falls Raiders, #3)

Author: Cate Cameron

Release Date: May 16, 2016

Genre: YA Romance

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains adult language, ice-melting kisses, and a swoon-worthy hero. This fake relationship romance will have you wishing for a hockey player of your own…

Natalie West and Toby Cooper were best friends growing up, on and off the ice. But when Toby’s hockey career took off, their friendship was left behind. Now Natalie has a crazy plan to land her crush—Toby’s biggest rival—and she needs Toby’s help to pull it off.

When Nat asks Toby to be her fake boyfriend, he can’t say no. Not when it means getting his best friend back. But Natalie is all grown up now, and spending time with her—even when it’s just playing hockey together—stirs up a lot of feelings, old and new. Suddenly pretending to be interested in her isn’t hard at all…if only she wanted him and not his enemy.

Winging It (Corrigan Falls Raiders, #3)Winging It by Cate Cameron
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is book # 3 in the Corrigan Falls Raiders series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and complete understanding, please read the series in the order intended.

Natalie AKA "Nat" have been best buds since they played hockey together when they were young kids. Now, on the last year of high school, she asks him to help her win the affections of the cousin he hates.

Toby is disgusted that someone he admires and yes, maybe likes, wants his lousy cousin. Lucky for them Scott is so jealous of Toby that the scheme actually makes sense. They agree to a 2 week plan.

This book has so much going for it! I loved every single page! I felt all the emotions from angry, sad, and elated right along with the characters. Such a great series and a book that is truly well written!

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains adult language, underage drinking, sexual situations, and crazy squirrels. It may cause you to become a fan of hockey - or at least hot hockey players.

The hometown hockey hero won’t know what hit him…

Karen Webber is in small-town hell. After her mother’s death, she moved to Corrigan Falls to live with strangers—her dad and his perfect, shiny new family—and there doesn’t seem to be room for a city girl with a chip on her shoulder. The only person who makes her feel like a real human being is Tyler MacDonald.

But Karen isn’t interested in starting something with a player. And that’s all she keeps hearing about Tyler.

Corrigan Falls is a hockey town, and Tyler’s the star player. But the viselike pressure from his father and his agent are sending him dangerously close to the edge. All people see is hockey—except Karen. Now they’ve managed to find something in each other that they both desperately need. And for the first time, Tyler is playing for keeps…

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains adult language, swoon-worthy kisses, and sexy hockey players. It may cause you to watch a hockey game...or ten.

Sixteen-year-old Claudia Waring has never kissed a boy. Never been popular. Never been to a hockey game. All that’s about to change. Assigned to tutor Chris Winslow, a prank-loving, gorgeous hockey player, Claudia’s perfectly planned life immediately veers off course. And she kind of likes it. But as fun as Chris is, she knows she'll never fit in his world.

After his latest prank lands him in hot water, Chris has to get serious about school or lose hockey. Not an easy thing for someone as carefree as the defenseman. The biggest problem, though, is how much he wants to help his cute, buttoned-up tutor loosen up a little. But while confidence has never been a problem for him, around Claudia, Chris is all nerves. Why would a girl as smart as her ever fall for a jock like him?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Cate Cameron grew up in the city but moved to the country in her mid-twenties and isn’t looking back. Most of her writing deals with people living and loving in small towns or right out in the sticks—when there aren’t entertainment options on every corner, other people get a lot more interesting!

She likes to write stories about real people struggling with real issues. YA, NA, or contemporary romance, her books are connected by their emphasis on subtle humor and characters who are trying to do the right thing, even when it would be a lot easier to do something wrong.

In one word: Awesome!
Playing Defense - Cate Cameron

LE Sigh!

In one word? AWESOME!

Playing Defense ticks every box when it comes to cute&fluffy. It was an easy and extremely enjoyable read, two interesting MCs, good support cast, many cute and funny moments, loads to swoon and hot Hockey boys. What's more to want? But Playing Defense offered much more than that. While lighthearted there are some interesting issues highlighted. And while it's defo a cute and swooney romance the two MCs do some considerable growth because of each other.

I loved Center Ice, in fact it was one of the novels the set me on the Entangled-Crush path. So I knew that I like Cameron's witty and fun writing. I was not disappointed, in fact I feel that Cameron did an even better job in this one. She managed subtly to add even more depth.

The story line was swoony, just like one would expect. There are naturally some problems, but also a lot of funny and very defining moments. I adore Chris and Dia's story. Love the friendships they both formed. My favorite part was the Sisterhood of Awesomeness. It's inspiring but also so much fun- and the interactions of the characters was the best.
On a sidenote I love how Cameron handled the smexy-stuff. It's fab, that she showed that the characters can be all headover heels, totally taken by each other, without being explicit- yet they discuss things and respect each other. It's definitely one of the things that gives it depth.

Let's just put it out there: This is awesome not just because we got super hotties and swooney cute stuff- but mostly because of the character building. In my opinion the character building makes this fabulous.
I love both Chris and Claudia. Love most of the support cast. But more than that it was amazing how two very different people, both kinda stuck but ok, help each other to become more authentic and to overcome their fears. The character growth is exhilarating and is what made me happy sigh on many occasions. Best thing ever.
I hope that we get to revisit the group of friend in the next installment of the series! Because now I am totally invested in them and I have a few questions that weren't answered.
Sadly, I also had a little issue with the character building. One being the mother. I got that she was anxious and all. But can you say extreme? She is supposed to be this intelligent person but I just couldn't believe her prejudice.. or her rudeness.
Then there is Annalise. I got that she was jealous, but she obviously just didn't want Claudia to be happy.. Or at least that's how it comes across. There was never an explanation for her behaviour nor were we told if Claudia and her worked things out. It's kind of like her character was created to cause friction, she was a baddie, because there was a need for one. Full stop. Which is nearly painful, when set in contrast to all the other characters.

While this does work as a stand-alone. DON'T miss out on Karen and Tyler's story. Trust me, read both.
A fabulous addition to a good series.
An absolute must read for lovers of the genre.

I can't wait for the next installment that is due to be published in May!

Playing Defense - Cate Cameron

This is book # 2 in the Corrigan Falls Raider series.  It can be read as a standalone novel  For reader enjoyment and understanding I recommend reading series in order.  This is best to avoid possible spoilers.

Claudia and Chris meet when she becomes him tutor.  Her counselor thinks she needs more on her college application.  She assigns her to Chris.

Chris is just trying to juggle it all.  He has a mom who wants him to go to college.  He is trying to do what he can to get by.  Can he do more?

The attraction between them is immediate.  The sparks are flying everywhere and others are noticing.  Really good addition to the series with some of our favorite characters thrown in.  I give this story a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

The List Thingy : Shelved W33
Playing with Fire (Hot In Chicago series Book 2) - Kate Meader
His Pretend Girl (An Emerald City Novella) - Sofia Grey
Seduction's Kiss (The Allure Chronicles) - Alyssa Rose Ivy
Here All Along (The Kelly Brothers Book 7) - Crista McHugh
Joni, Underway - Jonathan Harrow,Kelly Oram
Center Ice (Entangled Crush) (Corrigan Falls Raiders) - Cate Cameron
Magic Shifts - Ilona Andrews
Aimee and the Heartthrob (Entangled Crush) (Backstage Pass) - Ophelia London
A History of Glitter and Blood - Hannah Moskowitz
The Undying Legion: Crown & Key - Clay and Susan Griffith

I did damn well in my opinion considering that I read all of the books I had planned to read.

And some..

This is my read- list for the last ten days. I had planned to read 6 of them, and just finished the last one on me TBR list.

I am in the middle of making a new list. But thought I would make sense to post what I read, with a short comment on each book.

Apparently I like doing lists and accounts on books... well I do like lists of anything really, I am that much of a nerd apparently, which still surprises me. I was supposed to be the rebel, you know. Guess my undercover geek might not be as undercover as I hoped.

Back to my shelved list

  •   Joni, Underway - Jonathan Harrow,Kelly Oram
  • This is the absolute favourite of the bunch. In fact it's on my favourites of all times list. Joni, Underway resonated with something deep within me. Incredibly beautiful book. 4.5Stars

Playing with Fire (Hot In Chicago series Book 2) - Kate Meader

Sizzling and cute romance about the hottest men in town and the fiercest firefighter, ever.

His Pretend Girl (An Emerald City Novella) - Sofia Grey

I stumbled over this on kindleunlimted. It's quite well written, but the storyline is more or less a string of cliches. 2.5Stars

Seduction's Kiss (The Allure Chronicles) - Alyssa Rose Ivy

I liked the world building, the character building is done quite well in this short span but I felt like this might be too much of the usual PNR dramas. So I am not sure if I will read more of the series. 3Stars

Here All Along (The Kelly Brothers Book 7) - Crista McHugh

A wonderful end to a great series. Story of besties becoming more. McHugh absolutely shines with the character building.I just wish there would be more to come in the series! 4Stars

Center Ice (Entangled Crush) (Corrigan Falls Raiders) - Cate Cameron

I am not sure how or why, but I am kinda hooked by Entangled Crush. The first book in the Corrigan Falls Raiders series gave me exactly what I expected. A cute and fluffy fix. Though there were bits that dug deeper, I wish that somehow there would have been more of that. It's rather predictable but a fun read. 3.5Stars

Magic Shifts (Kate Daniels) - Ilona Andrews

Well written as always. But sadly the action scenes did overshadow every other aspect of this book.

I listened to the audio of this and in my opinion Renee Raudman can't do any wrong. It's the best way to enjoy an Ilona Andrews novel, seriously. Except for a tad little problem, there was no whispersync available for this instalment. Besides the fact, that I do get a discount on buying both the ebook and the audiobook with that feature, I love it for that fact that I can switch between the audio and ebook seamlessly. Since I didn't get that option I decided to only get the audiobook, which meant it took me several days to finish this.

Find my full review here

Aimee and the Heartthrob (Entangled Crush) (Backstage Pass) - Ophelia London

Cute and all, but also a lot of been there done that. Very well written mind you! I already got the next book in the series.. so my Entangled Crush obsession's still going strong.

3.5 Stars

A History of Glitter and Blood - Hannah Moskowitz

This is a book one is either going to love to bits or not. I wish I would be in the former group, because I think it's quite clever. But I really struggled through this one, mainly because I didn't like the writing style at all. Sadly just not for me. 1.5 Stars

The Undying Legion: Crown & Key - Clay and Susan Griffith

Extremely well written: Great action, good character building & fab steampunk gadgets but it does sadly have second book syndrome. It did build up my expectations for the next book and I shall be reading it very soon. 3.5Stars

I shall post my TBR for the coming week this evening..

And that's it for my mememe this week.

Any books you read this week that you feel are the bomb?
