Codename: Chimera by J K Persy #JKPersy
Codename: Chimera - J.K. Persy

Very pretty cover for Codename: Chimera by J K Persy. I got this book back in February of 2014, but didn’t read it until 1.15.15. I loved it and I don’t have any excuse for waiting so long to share it with you. The cover does not make me think of the cozy mystery that it is.

MY REVIEW

During their investigation, they learned about a project called Chimera and now the mystery deepens. Is it a conspiracy? Will they kill anyone to keep a secret?

A convoluted mystery centered around a medallion. Who does it belong to?

Codename: Chimera lacked a sense of urgency, but a lot of cozies do. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy them and I loved this one. I was super curious about the outcome and the deaths that follow the medallion.

I loved the trio and was happy to be along for their adventure. Codename: Chimera by J K Persy is not what I expected from looking at the cover, but it all made sense in the end.

The brain teasers are a bonus. I stopped and spent a lot of time trying to solve them. I wonder if you will too.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Codename: Chimera by J K Persy.

Book Review: Codename: Chimera by J.K. Persy

The authors were very kind and generous and sent us a copy for review.

Title: Codename: Chimera
Author: Jake & Kate Persy
Published: Published July 5th 2013 by J.K. Persy (first published November 3rd 2012)

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
A famous millionaire dies under mysterious circumstances in the Brooklyn ghetto. What it was that made him go to such a dangerous place at night remains a mystery. The only clue is a book, Mythical Creatures of Ancient Greece, left on his body and opened at a page on Chimera. Private detective Kevin Kris takes on the case, helped by Penny, his trusty assistant, and Michael, his best friend. They soon uncover a chain of bloody events shrouded in mystery from the past. Little by little the private detective and his friends discover the real truth hidden by the Man With No Face.

This book was a really quick, fun and easy read. I always love to read a good murder mystery and see if I can figure out who the killer is before the book tells you...I didn't succeed this time.

The writing style and plot outline were very basic, not that this is a bad thing. It just makes it quick and easy to get through as it is not a heavy or dense read. It was strange to me that there was no filler writing. Everything was written for a reason. I always feel like authors add useless writing and paragraphs just to fill or increase length, but not with this book. Everything moved along and progressed nicely. The authors also added some riddles to a few chapters which were really neat and it made me want to get through it faster to find the answers.

The only problem I had with this book was the characters. I felt like there was not enough information about them to get to know them well enough to establish any emotion or connections.

I gave this book 3/5 stars.

Thank you so much to Jake and Kate Persy for sending this my way!

October Wrap Up

I read nowhere near as much as I wanted to in the month of October, so in November I'm going to really try and step it up.

1. Destiny (Rogue Angel #1) by Alex Archer. I gave this one a 3.5/5. It was a fun, easy read and I will continue on with the series, but I will be in no rush.

2. Living Dead In Dallas by Charlaine Harris. I gave this a 3/5 and I have already posted my review of this one.

3. Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke. I gave this a 3/5. This was my friend read book choice of the month and our discussion review has already been posted.

4. The Shining by Stephen King. I gave this a 4.5/5. This was my first Stephen King novel and I cannot wait to read more of his works. My review is written and will be posted within the week.

5. Codename: Chimera by J.K. Persy. I gave this a 3.5/5. The authors were very kind and sent me a copy of this for review. This review is also written and will be posted within the week.

Have you read any of these books? Let me know what you thought of them.

Will you guess? - A puzzle from Kevin Kris, private detective

“Once I was in Moscow, buying an antique Russian gun for my collection. One kindly antiques trader offered me a cup of tea and some gingerbread. When he heard of my passion for brain twisters he told me a riddle that had been posed by one of the great Russian writers. I knew the answer at once. What about you?”

“A hat is on sale in a store for 10 rubles. A customer tries it on and wants to buy it but he only has a 25-ruble bill. The salesman sends his assistant next door to get change and he returns with two 10-ruble bills and one 5-ruble bill. The salesman gives the customer the hat and 15 rubles change. Later the neighbor calls in and says that the 25-ruble bill is a forgery and demands her money back. The salesman has no choice but to take the money from the cash register and give it back to her. The question is, what was the salesman’s loss?”
