The Perfect Bargain (Entangled Lovestruck) (How to Marry a Highlander) - Jessa McAdams,Julia London

Sloane goes into Galen's pub daily.  He has the best WI-FI and cell service.  The only way she can stay in touch with her life in the States.  She tells him her ideas to improve his pub while she is there.  He very much hates that she has all these ideas.  He is annoyed by these daily conversations.

Galen is trying to make it work.  He has the pub that was his Grandfather's.  His family gives him little to no help and thinks he is crazy for trying.  He left his job as a solicitor to make this happen.  Now he has a crazy American woman offering him a deal.

This story was so fun to read.  There was a lot of humor.  I enjoyed the banter, and the heat was literally of the charts HOT!  I found myself rooting for this couple early on.  They really were the perfect set of opposites attract.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Pound of Flesh by Jessa Kane
Pound of Flesh - Jessa Kane

This little story is about a recently released, bulldog faced convict, built like an ogre who takes a young (but not too young) beauty hostage to get back at her brother for some reason or another (but mostly it's the sex he wants, if you're wondering).

She's pretty cool with it. Guess she likes monstrous men who take what they want. Hey, we all have our things . . .

This is "ravage me, I love it" soft porn. My brain was tired and I needed something slightly offensive and silly to take my mind off my real life woes and this one did the trick.

Sorta recommended, I guess?

Why I Am Not A Feminist: A Feminist Manifesto
Why I Am Not A Feminist: A Feminist Manifesto - Jessa Crispin If I was to summarize this book's message, it's that we've given up radical ideals for comfort and convenience. Act on your conscience. Demand the change in society by actually forcing it to change. It's hard to ignore that point. The problem I see is that by keeping a movement on the fringe, we delegitimize its mission and it's harder to encourage much-needed change in the greater population. People burn out, and other people don't pay attention. Crispin is of the opinion that watering down the message won't get us anywhere either.

So yeah, support local businesses, get involved with grassroots activism and put yourself out where it's uncomfortable. I'm on board with that, and it's something that people should hear. It's a quick read, but packed with opinion. Add this to discussions of capitalism, feminism, racism, and how Western society works.

Queen of Starlight: Sheerspace Book 1
Queen of Starlight: Sheerspace Book 1 - Jessa Slade I quite enjoy the "last of their kind" stories, but they never give me a satisfactory epilogue on what life is like for the last person. It's just like "Oh yeah, they're the last of their race and life will be a whole new adventure for them. The End."

Agh! Motherfuck, that is so annoying.

Whatever. This story... I thought the crystals and bonding could have been better explained to the reader. And I was annoyed that the h refused to explain things to the H, instead letting him operate under dated and ignorant assumptions. It went against her character and I felt the author only wrote it that way to create conflict that wasn't truly necessary. Still, I enjoyed reading it, so don't take my complaints too seriously.
