Single dad and star defenseman Matt LaRue lives for his kids and hockey. He's had one failed marriage and doesn't have any interest in going through that hell again. As conservative as they come, he can't comprehend his unexplainable attraction to a free-spirited female who changes hair color more often than his boys create new excuses to avoid doing their homework.

Violet Strider is fleeing the past. She has a new start, new identity, and is hiding a big secret. Matt and Vi are a classic case of opposites attract, but neither expects the attraction to extend beyond a few hot trysts, especially Vi. Only her heart isn't listening, and her head is following her heart down a path of no return. As Vi grows closer to Matt and his boys, she fears her secret could rip them apart.

Relationships are built on trust, and Vi's house of cards is about to take a tumble. Can Vi confront her past and finally put it behind her, while earning Matt's forgiveness?

review SPOILER ALERT! 2017-09-05 23:46
DNF - 40%
Penalty for Holding (The Games Men Play Series) - Georgette Gouveia

Unfortunately I had to call time on this one at about 40%. I actually started skimming at 33% and then finally had to give up.

I felt like I was reading this book forever. The narrative would jump from one event to another, past to present, until I lost the thread. It seemed to meander along. It took forever for the MC, Quinn, to meet the love/sex interest (both of them). And that's when things went from bad to worse for me. There was no connection between the MCs before the 'relationships' started, and because of the way the story was written I never got any sense of relationship. One relationship was almost dub-con, and was definitely abusive. And then Quinn started a relationship with another character (who also had history with the abusive character), a character he thought himself in love with, but chose not to say anything. I got to the point where I couldn't stomach anymore.

On a positive note, I did like the cover.

Good Story and Characters
Penalty Play (Power Play Book 3) - Lynda Aicher

Henrik was the Minnesota Glaciers starting defenseman. Henrik is a serial dater. and can’t stand to be alone. Jacqui is a music major who has been in remission from cancer for the last eight years. Henrik met Jacqui at the music store when he goes to get some guitar strings.Jacqui was playing the piano when he came into the store. ten years ago Henrik gave up his true love of music ten years earlier his younger sister had died of a drug overdose that he felt he should have prevented.  Jacqui had four hockey loving brothers who are overprotective of her. Jacqui doesn’t fall at Henrik’s feet like most girls and he likes that. He eventually gets Jacqui to agree to have lunch with him. The two are crazy attracted to each other Henrik wants more then one night but Jacqui pulls away to protect Henrik even though she cares about him. Henrik was psychologically abused by his brother, father, and mother. But Henrik is willing to open up to Jaqui if only she would trust him.

I liked this story a lot. It talks of letting go of the bad things in your past and to learn to trust and heal to become whole again. Story is interesting learned a little about hockey. I loved the characters especially Henrik and Jacqui and all the ups and downs they go through. I recommend.

I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.
