Lonely hearts
Forbidden Promises - Katee Robert

This book is the 4th in The O'Malleys series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader understanding and enjoyment, I recommend reading this series in order.

Jude has sinister plans for someone near Sloan.  His past is full of secrets and lies.  What could he ever hope to offer someone as innocent as she?

Sloan has her own past full of secrets.  She has her own lies she needs to tell.  Jude is just eye candy until her curiosity cannot resist.

This series just leaves me breathless!  Just when I think nothing can surprise me.... well, I am not a spoiler so you will have to read it to find out.  Know that this author never leaves you wanting.  The characters are very rich and compelling in all sorts of ways.  I give this book a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Add to Goodreads

New York Times and USA To day bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys—wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.

Greed. Ambition. Violence. Those are the "values" Olivia Rashidi learned from her Russian mob family-and the values she must leave behind for the sake of her daughter. When she meets Cillian O'Malley, she recognizes the red flag of his family name…yet she still can't stop herself from seeing the smoldering, tortured man. To save her family, Olivia sets out to discover Cillian's own secrets, but the real revelation is how fast—and how hard—she's falling for him.

Plagued by a violent past, Cillian is more vulnerable than anyone realizes. Anyone except Olivia, whose beauty, compassion, and pride have him at "hello," even if she's more inclined to say good-bye to an O'Malley. While his proposal of sex with no strings seems simple, what he feels for her isn't, especially after he learns that she belongs to a rival crime family. Cillian knows that there is no escape from the life, but Olivia may be worth trying—and dying—for.

Excerpt:

Need another drink?” The words were clear despite the general ruckus of the bar, the voice like whiskey on the rocks. If Cillian O’Malley put a little imagination into it, he could almost taste her tone. It was the closest he’d come to having an actual drink in ten months.

Olivia.

He looked up, straight into night-dark eyes that made him think reckless thoughts about leaning across this bar and kissing the hell out of this woman. It was something the old Cillian would have done, and if the look on her face was any indication, he would have gotten the shit kicked out of him for the effort. He smiled despite the dark mood that had brought him wandering into Jameson’s to begin with. “Hey, gorgeous.”

The guarded look on her face was the same as the first time they’d met, like she expected him to whip out a gun and start shooting or threaten her or some shit like that. Since he knew for a fact he’d ever so much as raised his voice at her in the two times they’d interacted previously, it stung a little that that was her knee-jerk reaction to him.

And it made him want to show her how wrong she was.

You know, I’d pay good money to know what I did to piss you off so much.”

Olivia’s expression iced over in a way that would send a smarter man running. It just made Cillian more intrigued. He’d been caught up in his family’s dramas for so long, it was refreshing to having an unconnected interaction—even if it was with someone who hated him. Hell, it was almost better this way.

It just added to the tangled mess inside him caused by sitting in this bar. Jameson’s and he had a complicated history that he’d never be able to escape. It was the last place his family had felt whole. He’d been here with his brothers, Aiden and Teague and Devlin, on the final night when they’d been celebrating Teague’s impending marriage. Devlin had been shot in a drive-by on the way home, and the O’Malley family had lost the closest thing to an innocent they could call their own. Cillian hated this place as much as he loved it, but it was here his feet brought him when he wandered.

Olivia crossed her arms over her chest, which only served to accent the way her breasts pressed against her shredded T-shirt. It wasn’t ripped enough to be truly indecent, but he could see several slices of her dusky skin beneath the black fabric, and it was distracting as hell. She cleared her throat, but he still gave her body a slow look, taking in her spiked combat boots, tiny skirt, coming back to that shirt, and then settling on her face. She was beautiful in the way good models were—a little too sharp for strictly traditional good looks, but all the more striking because of it. The mass of dark hair and the anger in near-black eyes took her over the edge into devastating.

She looked like the kind of mistake he would have jumped at a year ago. He had jumped at her six months ago when they’d first met, and it had gone in the same direction their current interaction was headed. She’d taken an instant dislike to him, and nothing he could say seemed to convince her that he wasn’t this monster she seemed to label him as.

So much had happened between then and now, so much that weighed him down and threatened to drag him under for good. He hadn’t even been out by himself since he was shot—the same night he’d last seen Olivia. He rubbed his shoulder, half-sure he could feel the scar beneath the fabric of his shirt.

What would it be like to be that carefree and crazy version of himself, just for one more night?

An Indecent Proposal (The O'Malleys, #3)An Indecent Proposal by Katee Robert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book # 3 in The O'Malleys series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and understanding, I recommend reading the series in order.

Olivia and Cillian are flying sparks all over the room when they are both in it. She just does not want to have anything to do with him or his family. Been there, done that.

Cillian cannot escape the feeling he has for her. The attraction both physical and other are immediate. He thinks he can talk her into more, little does he know....

Such an amazing story! The characters have a lot to offer since they are rich and deep. I loved that this book held many surprises, and a few familiar faces as well. Good series. I hope we see more and I cannot wait for the next book.

Author Katee Robert – Top 5 List

Top 5 Netflix shows (or TV shows if you don’t have Netflix):

Sense8 – This show is one of those that, if you’ve seen it, you know EXACTLY why it’s on this list. If you haven’t… What are you waiting for? Go. Watch! Give it 2 episodes, because the first very much thrusts you into this world and expects you to find your feet, but it is SO worth the payoff. You have a diverse cast with diverse characters in settings across the world. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will be baying at the moon for season two (it’s coming! I promise!)

Jessica Jones – Oh, the feels. Jessica Jones has some of the most compelling characterization of the aftermath of an abusive relationship and rape that I’ve seen to date. It’s dark. It’s definitely a slow-boil story, and she’s self destructive to a clinical degree…but you can’t look away. And the emotional payoff at the end is just perfection.

Daredevil – So I loved the first season. The fight scenes are great, and Matt and Foggy’s relationship is gold. But season two is where I just lost it because of one character—Frank Castle, the Punisher. That particular character has been played before and played well (depending on who you ask) but his portrayal in this season was just… God, I have no words. Raw and dark and completely, heart-wrenchingly relatable. I can’t wait for him to have his own season (and to see him again in other Daredevil seasons?).

Empire – This is a new-to-me show. It was on my radar, but I finally got around to watching it this month…and promptly binged the entire first season. The music is amazing, the family dynamics are on point, and the plot unravels so pitch perfect. Cookie and Lucious give me life (even though I want to punch him in the throat 75% of the time).

UnReal – This show is one of the most compelling on television right now. Seriously. The characters are all complex and, let’s face it, not particularly good people. But you can’t look away, and you end up rooting for them despite yourself. Rachel and Quinn have one of the best and most nuanced friendship that transcends everything around them. If you haven’t watched this show, I’m not above shoving it into your hands. I love it SO SO much!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Katee Robert learned to tell stories at her grandpa's knee. Her favorites then were the rather epic adventures of The Three Bears, but at age twelve she discovered romance novels and never looked back.

Though she dabbled in writing, life got in the way-as it often does-and she spent a few years traveling, living in both Philadelphia and Germany. In between traveling and raising her two wee ones, she had the crazy idea that she'd like to write a book and try to get published.

Her first novel was an epic fantasy that, God willing, will never see the light of day. From there, she dabbled in YA and horror, before finally finding romance. Because, really, who wouldn't want to write entire books about the smoking-hot relationships between two people?

She now spends her time-when not lost in Far Reach worlds-playing imaginary games with her wee ones, writing, ogling men, and planning for the inevitable zombie apocalypse.

Blog Tour w/Review - THE WEDDING PACT

The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert

Date of Publication: April 26, 2016

Blurb:

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katee Robert continues her smoking-hot series about the O'Malleys-wealthy, powerful, and full of scandalous family secrets.

Carrigan O'Malley has always known her arranged marriage would be more about power and prestige than passion. But after one taste of the hard-bodied, whiskey-voiced James Halloran, she's ruined for anyone else. Too bad James and his family are enemy number 1.

Hallorans vs. O'Malleys-that's how it's always been. James should be thinking more about how to expand his family's empire instead of how silky Carrigan's skin is against his and how he can next get her into his bed. Those are dangerous thoughts. But not nearly as dangerous as he'll be if he can't get what he wants: Carrigan by his side for the rest of their lives.

WEDDING PACT

James had thought he'd imagined the fear in Carrigan's voice when she called. If she was in actual trouble, she sure as hell wasn't going to call him—no matter how much he liked the idea of being the one to swoop in and save her from her problems. He liked the idea too much.

But then she walked into the quiet little pub where he was waiting and he realized he hadn't been wrong the first time. There were faint bruises beneath her eyes, like she'd been sleeping even less than he had, and she held herself like a woman who'd been beaten for the first time. He was on his feet before he made a conscious decision to move. "Who hurt you?"

"No one."

"Don't play that martyr bullshit with me, Carrigan. Who the fuck put that look on your face?" She'd gone through hell and back because of him and it hadn't put that haunted expression in her green eyes. He clenched his fists, trying and failing to get control of his temper. She wasn't his to protect. Hell, even if she was, he had a pretty shitty track record of keeping people in his care safe. There was no reason why she'd be any different.

Except that he wanted her to be different.

She brushed past him, drawing his attention to her clothing. "What the hell are you wearing?"

Carrigan spun and glared. "I don't need your shit right now."

"You called me, lovely, so my shit is exactly what you're going to get." She looked like an angel—one that had had its wings clipped. He wasn't sure what gave him that impression, but the long white dress was opposite of everything he'd found the woman to be in the short time they'd known each other. She was wild and impulsive and free. She wasn't…this virginal almost-bride. He didn't like the change. He didn't like it one bit. "Sit your ass down. I'll get us drinks, and then you're telling me what the fuck is going on."

"Don't hold your breath on that."

He wouldn't have to. She might be prickly as all get out, but she wanted to talk. She wouldn't have called him otherwise. The bartender met him halfway, a nervous little mouse of a guy. James made an effort to speak softly because the man looked half a second from pissing himself at the idea of a Halloran in his bar.

"Whiskey for me. Dirty martini for the lady."

He made his way back to where Carrigan had picked a booth. Ignoring the empty side, he slid in next to her.

The bartender appeared with their drinks, and James waited for him to scurry away before he spoke again. "Talk to me. I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong."

"No one can help me."

The raw pain in her voice made him want to comfort her, but that was one skill James had never learned. Maybe if his mother had lived…But there was no room in this world for "what if" and "maybe." So he did the one thing that he knew how to do. The single thing guaranteed to distract her.

He kissed her.

Carrigan went rigid for half a second, but he waited, his lips on hers, and let her choose. That hesitation was all it took for her to melt, turning to fire in his arms. He wanted to haul her against him, to let this feeling consume him until none of the bullshit mattered anymore. Right now, in this moment, there was only her. They could be the last two people in the world for all he gave a fuck. Hell, part of him hoped they were. As her tongue stroked his, a small, treacherous thought wormed into his brain and took root.

With this woman by my side, I'd be content to let the rest of the world burn.

The Wedding Pact (The O'Malleys, #2)The Wedding Pact by Katee Robert
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 2nd book in The O'Malley's series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and enjoyment, please read this series in order. The contents in later books may have spoilers.

Carrigan and James have a hot history of hookups and kidnapping. Complicated does not begin to cover this. They are attracted to each other in a very electric way.

James cannot stop thinking about her. He knows her father intends to marry her off to another man and it is eating him alive. Carrigan is out of time and options for her future. James is her one vice.

This book was so full of heat it was nearly on fire! The story is fast paced and steady. Some of our favorite characters make appearances too. I think this series is incredible. If you love a slow and fierce burn this is the book!

 ********************************

 EXCERPT:

What are you wearing?”

A pause, as if she’d shocked him. “You’re hitting on me.”

Are you complaining?” She twisted around in her chair and stared into the mirror on the wall across from her. When he didn’t immediately respond, she kept going. The only alternative was to back down, and Carrigan was so goddamn tired of backing down. The only reason she kept taking James’s calls was because of the distraction he offered her. If he wasn’t going to play, there was no reason for her to stay on the phone.

She really wanted him to stay on the phone. “Shy? That’s okay, I’ll go first. I’m wearing a thin white tank top and a pair of black panties.” She was a liar, but it would take all of five seconds to make it the truth.

Lovely, you’re testing me.” His voice gained an edge.

Good. At least someone was feeling as out of control as she was. “I suppose you’d like photographic proof.” She stood and shimmied out of her long skirt, and then pinned the phone between her ear and shoulder while she unhooked her bra and took it off.

“Hold, please.”

Ignoring his cursing, she adjusted her angle so he would have to be blind to miss the faint outline of her nipples against the fabric of her tank top, and snapped a picture. She knew she was playing with fire. Good lord, of course she knew. But she wasn’t about to stop. She grinned as she sent the picture.

Carrigan put the phone back to her ear in time to hear his sharp inhale. “Your turn.” She held her breath, waiting to see if he’d actually do it. Receiving pictures was one thing. Putting them out in the world was entirely another. Really, she shouldn’t have taken the risk in the first place. There was no telling what he would do with them—they might show up on the Internet. Then who would want to marry her?

Funny, but the idea of countless men checking out her rack didn’t bother her nearly as much if it meant she dodged the marriage bullet. The shame on her family might be enough that her father would send her away permanently. She’d like to spend some time in New York or LA or even New Orleans. Maybe Rome or Paris or Tokyo. The world was so damn big and she’d only seen a little slice of it.

Her phone beeped, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the picture he’d sent and started to shake. Oh my God. James was shirtless, wearing only those goddamn jeans she couldn’t seem to get enough of. And they were unbuttoned—a clear invitation if she ever saw one. An invitation she desperately wanted to accept. “Damn, James. Somebody taught you how to selfie.”

Maybe I’m a natural.” His voice was little more than a growl. “You started this, lovely. Tell me what’s next.”

The strange mix of command and handing her the reins got her head back in the game. She walked over to her bed and climbed onto it, trying to ignore the trembling in her legs. She could be in charge. She wanted to be. “I’m lying on my bed.”

What color are the sheets?”

The question seemed to carry far more import than it should. “White.”

They don’t suit you. Red is your color. Go on.” He sounded so damn imperial, as if he actually knew her. He didn’t. No one did, really. She wore so many masks, sometimes she worried she’d forget the woman at the center of them all.

But this time he was right. She would have chosen red for herself.

Carrigan put the thought away and focused on the now. “You talk too much.”

My mistake.” He didn’t sound the least bit sorry. Good. She wasn’t, either. “How do you want it, lovely? Rough, I’d bet. You’re not fucking breakable, and I think you love to be reminded of that fact.” Something rustled on his end of the line. “Close your eyes.”

She obeyed without thinking, and then instantly snapped them open. “I thought I was in charge.”

You let me know if I get something wrong.” His laugh told her how unlikely he found the possibility.
