Treasure
Ride the Tide - Julie Ann Walker

This is book #3, in the Deep Six series. This book can be read as a standalone.  For reader enjoyment, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading the series in the order intended.

Alexis wants Mason and she has made no secret of it.  Her uncontrollable attraction appears one sided, but he shows her repeatedly with though and deed that is not so.  Only they have to dodge attempts on their lives and search for treasure while keeping themselves apart.

Mason has no idea what to do with Alex.  One minute she is the smartest, most beautiful woman he has ever known, and the next she is the most cunning sexpot alluring him with her honest mouth.  Can they survive it all?

The pace of this book moves very fast as there is much inside.  Lots of surprises for the reader, as well as a burning heat between the main characters that may move the reader to need a fan.  The gang is all here in this one, and the new installment is satisfying, if not a slow burn.  I give this a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Good Story and Good Characters
Too Hard to Handle (Black Knights Inc.) - Julie Ann Walker

Dan “ The Man” Currington looked over at his friend and and teammate  Dagan.Dan and Dagan were Agents for Black Knights Inc.The Black Knight actually report to the president of the the USA.   They were in Peru on a mission and had been here three months already. Dan scanned the tourists as they passed him for one particular face. He had been ;looking for that face for an eternity or at least that is what it seemed like. Dan and his teammate had yet to capture the number one name on Uncle Sam’s very bad list, the rogue CIA agent traitor. Dan and Dagan now have Chelsea working with them, she is CIA agent who had only worked at a desk before now. Chelsea is determined to be a worthwhile member of the team.   . Dagan said that every night Dan dreams of the woman he worked with in Kuala Lumpur and whispers Penni. Dan and Secret Agent Penni had super hot chemistry but couldn’t do a lot about it .But before they could do much about it a terrorist attack took out Penni’s whole team. The did have a one night stand that neither had forgotten. Dan had lost his wife two years ago during a shooting. After her team all being killed Penni quit the Secret Service. Than Penni goes looking for Dan and is told he is in Peru so Penni goes to Peru. Penni believes there is more for her and dan than just that one night. Penni si caught up in the middle of a mission that is about to blow sky high. Dan and Pennui run for their lives with the rogue CIA agent after them.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read filled with danger, suspense, action, violence, and romance. What more could you ask for from a book? I advise you to read all the books in this series for a smoother more complete read. I loved the fast pace and the plot. Although this was somewhat predictable at least for me it didn’t take away from the book that much. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend it.

Hell On Wheels
Hell on Wheels - Julie Ann Walker

Well, I liked it, but didn't really like it...I have some nitpicks. So, Ali's got some people after her and she goes to her brother's best friend for help. She's known him (and been in love with him) for over a decade and vice versa.
This had a decent amount of suspense. The characters are likable. But, the romance was so-so. It's the "I'm in love with best friend's sibling" trope, but can't have them because it's my best friend's sibling/not good enough. Whatever. Last I checked both were adults and didn't need anyone's permission. I thought the back and forth (I want you, but can't have you! and Made a move/said something, but then a push back) was too much and lasted too long before they finally got together. I also thought the ending a bit rushed.
Ali was a well written character. I felt I knew her. Nate not so much. I knew next to nothing about him and that was the same at the end. While I liked Ali, be warned. She has a weak stomach and threw up 4 times. The other thing? She doesn't cuss. It's crapola. HE double hockey sticks. Frank even apologies for cussing (yes, women have delicate ears and will go ape shit should they hear a curse word!). Insert eye-roll here.
I thought Becky and Frank (who also happen to be the couple featured in the next book) had a strong story-line in this book. I am definitely pro-Becky. I thought she was fantastic and kick ass. I loved that she was so unconventional. Frank? I'm calling him a misogynistic asshole! I thought Becky was tolerated, because they NEED her skills, but at the same time, was not really one of THEM. Her goal is to be one of THEM. She takes steps to make that happen, and Frank, tells her she will never be one of them. And if she leaves, he will sabotage her chances. Now, it doesn't say what his reasoning was (beyond "for her own good"), but I can't help but think it's because: 1. Becky is a woman. 2. He likes Becky. 3. He must therefore "protect" her. I'm curious if he redeems himself because I thought this book had good, strong female characters that didn't venture into TSTL territory and could hold their own.
Featured in this book: Frank (Boss), Rebecca (Becky), Ethan (Ozzie), Dan (Dan Man), Patti
Someone does die. Wonder if Dagan will join?
Mentioned: Billy (Becky's brother), Christian, Rock, Steady, Mac, Jamin

Halloween Bingo:  Suspense square.

A brooding covert operative and a spunky CIA agent discover a burning passion in the next installment of Julie Ann Walker's red-hot BKI series

Dagan Zoelner has made three huge mistakes
The first two left blood on his hands.

The third left him wondering...what if? What if he had told the woman of his dreams how he felt before his world fell apart?

Spitfire CIA agent Chelsea Duvall has always had a thing for bossy, brooding Dagan. It's just as well that he's never given her a second look, since she carries a combustible secret about his past that threatens to torch their lives...

DNF’d this one at pg. 169 about 47%.

We’ve met Chelsea and Dagan in previous books. They have had this unspoken attraction to each other for years and now they are getting their story.

Fuel For Fire just isn’t pulling me in nor is it keeping my interest like, so many others in the series have. I’m not getting that all consuming pull or suspense to keep me interested.

I have really enjoyed and liked many of the Black Knights Inc. series…up until now. This wasn’t what I was expecting for Dagan and Chelsea. I just didn’t care for the writing direction. We are inundated with pop culture references. Also with memories from Chelsea; where every sentence she thinks (utters) about her dad, her mom, her mom and dad, and on and on it went. It made it hard to stay connect and focus on what was actually happening. The books just aren’t what they use to be when the series started. We are close to the the end of the series and Full For Fire is the third to the last book in the series; which is wrapping up this long standing storyline on finding out who Spider is.

What made me stop and say no more was Chelsea’s BIG SECRET that she has kept for years that has something to do about Afghanistan and why Dagan was fired from the CIA. I’m not sure why she’s kept it, but at the beginning when it all happened it was because she was thinking about herself, her mom, and their family home. Now well she wants to tell him this secret before they go further aka try for a relationship. When she tries to tell Dagan, he says not now – all I want is you naked. I’ve waited so long to have you in my arms and all I want is you. So what does she do? She resigns herself to having this one time sexy fling with him by saying it’s ok; because she’s giving him what he wants; because last time she thought all about herself and her mother first. AHHHH!!!! This secret she knows will change things. Who knows how or what it really is, but to sleep with him before telling him. NOOOO!!! I threw my hands in the air, shook my head, yelled, and almost threw the book. I closed it at that point and said no more. I can’t keep reading. So here we are DNFing a book in the Black Knights Inc. series. I had some other issues, but this was the main issue that had me throwing in the towel.

Fuel For Fire was not the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Reading progress update: I've read 169 out of 384 pages.
Fuel for Fire - Julie Ann Walker

DNFing this one here at pg. 169 about 47% in.

We've met Chels and Dagan in previous books and they have had this unspoken attraction to each other, so this has been going on for some time, years, and now they are getting their story.

Fuel For Fire isn't pulling me in nor is it keeping my interest like so many others in the series have. I'm not getting that all consuming pull or suspense to keep me going.

I just don't care for this new writing direction. The books aren't like they use to be when the series started. I've loved the books in this series, but Fuel For Fire is't working out. I don't know if it's because it's the second to last book in the series. The Black Knight Inc is closing it's doors. The new President doesn't want them. They are trying to wrap up this Spider thing up; before everything is said and done.

What has really put me in a mood on this Fuel For Fire is that Chels has a BIG SECRET something to do about Afghanistan and why Dagan was fired. She's kept this for years. At the time she was thinking about herself and her mothers well being, before anything else. Well she wants to tell him this secret; before they go further aka try for a relationship, but when Dagan says, no all I want is you naked now. I've waited so long and I want you. She resigns herself to this one time being with him by saying it's ok because she's giving him what he wants all because last time she thought about herself and her mother first. AHHHH. This secret she knows will change things. Who knows how or what it really is, but to sleep with him before telling him. I through my hands in the air, almost through the book, and said nope I'm done.
