Timescape - Gregory Benford

The mixed reviews of this book fascinate me! I am wondering of this is due to how hard it is to understand the hard science. I am not a theoretical physicist, so my own understanding probably didn't even scratch the surface. But I became fascinated with the idea of sending messages to the past and considering that instead of having paradoxes, the universe would split and start a new timeline.

This story had a slow start and and found it hard to get into and understand the storyline, but once I did I was hooked!

Just starting ...
Too Like the Lightning - Ada Palmer

After a really long hiatus, publisher TOR (Macmillan publishing group) just reinstated* their monthly free ebook club (join by adding your email, no charge, will all be Science Fiction or Fantasy genre ebooks).

There's a booklikes bookclub at http://booklikes.com/book-clubs/88/tor-monthly-free-ebook-science-fiction-and-fantasy if anyone cares to join in he read.  Club hasn't seen much activity because almost as soon as booklikes club started TOR tabled the program for a while.

Not actually sure about the book.  New to me author.  Book description makes it sound like could be a juicy, immersive read for me withh lots of politics, worldbuilding and religion -- or else too bogged down in politics and religion if done wrong.

*ETA or not just reinstated.  See Familiar Diversions comment, thye got a February one I missed.  My apologies to the booklikes bookclub for missing it.  I'll update club shelves when I found out what the February book was.

Book Tour: Halley's Casino: The Adventures of Nebula Yorker
Halley's Casino: The Adventures of Nebula Yorker - Mark J.G. Fahey

Halley’s Casino is a good action and adventure book. It got some historical fiction with science fiction with the time travel. I liked it. It kept you guessing and entertained. I loved the fact that you get to time travel by going back though earth history.

The author does a wonderful job. I like that Nebula Yorker is the problem solver. Is Halley a Comet or is it an Intergalactic Casino? We see what Rome looks like at 12 BCE? Who is Nebula Parents? You find all kinds of surprises and twists along the way. I enjoyed the plot.

Will Neb save earth or will not? It adventures of a lifetime. Find out by reading. This book has a few stories and adventures waiting from beginning to end. Is the world as we see it or his it something we never imagined?

Heavy think
The Dispossessed - Ursula K. Le Guin

This one strained my brain quite a bit. It's a very involved book where social, political, economical structures, customs, morals, ethics, sex and peer pressure are concerned. Yeah, it runs the gamut, and befits a character that is what we'd call an activist.

I liked how the story is built, with the the past sections filling the motivations and giving context by contrast, and the overarching and interconnecting themes of time and journeys. And walls. Following a path, going forward with an idea, beginnings and ends, coming back home, cycles. Ever-happening change.

That end was so quiet, yet lovely.

Reading progress update: I've read 227 out of 387 pages.
The Dispossessed - Ursula K. Le Guin

They are discussing how the nature and perception of time relates to ethics, and it's blowing my mind. Earlier, the were chatting about an icon/goddess of morality, and whether it was better as an outside force or an inside one. It looks like no stone will be left unturned on this one's dialogues and self-musings.
