A Precautionary Tale: How One Small Town Banned Pesticides, Preserved Its Food Heritage, and Inspired a Movement by Philip Ackerman-Leist, foreword by Vandana Shiva

A Precautionary Tale: How One Small Town Banned Pesticides, Preserved Its Food Heritage, and Inspired a Movement by Philip Ackerman-Leist, foreword by Vandana Shiva is a shocking tale about a little italian South Tirol town called Mals and some citizens like Gunter the first believer in this dream, helped by a new young mayor, and a lady called Annemarie. They created a town pesticide-free and a movement against the use of pesticides. A strong battle, as you will read.

The area where they live in, Val Venosta, in fact is shockingly productive regarding a fruit everyday we all eat on our tables: apples.
Only Val Venosta produces the author tells the 10-12% of all European apples available in a year.
Apple producers wanted to create a cohesive brand giving quality and origin adds the author. The product created in less than 50 years with this expansion. Orchards tells the author are sprayed also 20 times per season.

For this reason and many other ones Mals, this little town started a crusade for staying out from all of it, preserving its food traditions and they do it with success.

At the end of the book useful informations and what to do if also your community lives a situation like the one of Mals.

The book doesn't forget legislative informations regarding the use of pesticides in the USA.

I thank NetGalley for this  ebook.

"325 First Fights" by E. L. Todd

My Thoughts....

The story continues for these five friends...Cypress, Bree. Amelia, Ace, Blade and lets add Evan.  I will say a few of these characters had me shaking my head and saying WHAT?  There is so much going on you will have to keep up.  Hopefully you have read this first novel in this series...'400 First Kisses' so that you will be able to know what has happened previously in this story. I found this series quite a read and it seems to continue on from who can trust who with there being a lot of twist and turns.  I did feel that with all that was going on in this story there was a lack of communication and being totally honest with one another. Anyway we will be left wondering what will come next for Bree, Cypress, Amelia, Ace. Blade and that Evan in the next series: 218 First Hugs.'

The Challenge is to know what you're really fighting for
The Challenge - Kim Iverson Headlee

The Challenge is a part of Kim Headlee’s The Dragon’s Dove Chronicles and although it is the first story of the series I’ve read, that does not impede its enjoyment. It is a short story set in the world of the Arthurian legends and although it mixes fantasy elements (not that there are no fantasy elements in the story we’re all familiar with) it does refer back to older stories and traditions. Considering its length, the story packs an incredible amount of detail, not only of the action and fight itself (with vivid descriptions of weapons and gear), but also of the relationships of the queen, Gyan, with her men, of her feelings about her people and her kingdom, and also of her mental state at the time. She confronts a rival with supernatural strength, but more important than that she also has to fight her doubts about her relationship with the King. And although I’m not going to give you any spoilers, I can tell you that the ending won’t disappoint.

If you fancy a short read, full of action, with a good mix of historical detail and fantasy, and a superb strong female lead, I strongly recommend it.
