FOREST – Love, Loss, Legend

Matthew and Raminder are young, idealistic and in love.

As soon as they can they plan to leave behind the small town and small minds of Pitt Landing. They will embrace life and experience the world, maybe even change it.

Man plans, God laughs. Raminder’s father has a stroke and her commitment to her family means she must postpone her plans and stay in Pitt Lake. It’s just the opposite for Matt. A family tragedy leaves irreconcilable differences between him and his father and forces him to leave.

They promise to reunite, but life happens.

Twelve years later, Matt is an acclaimed war correspondent. He’s seen it all and it’s left him with post-traumatic stress, a gastric ulcer, and an enlarged liver. He’s never been back to Pitt Landing though the memory of Raminder and their love has more than once kept him sane.

He’s at his desk in the newsroom, recuperating from his last assignment and current hangover and reading a letter from his father, the first contact they’ve had in over a decade. It talks about a legendary lost gold mine, a map leading to it, and proof in a safety deposit box back in Pitt Lake. He’s sent it to Matt in case something happens to him and cautions his son to keep it a secret.

Matt is about to dismiss the letter when the telephone rings. It’s Raminder telling him his father has disappeared somewhere in the wilderness that surrounds Pitt Lake.

Lost gold, lost love and lost hope compels Matt to return home to a dying town on the edge of the wilderness.

The forest is waiting.

★★★★ FOREST...neatly encapsulates the battleground of humanity’s greed for natural resources versus the cost to the environment... a compelling story, studded with evocative detail and under laid by a very real question – definitely worth the read.

★★★★ Definitely worth reading!

“Intriguing story about a man's quest. Searching for a father, gold, peace of mind, love”

★★★★★ Wow! A very well written mystery, suspense book.

Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great foreign film adventure movie, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
- Tony Parsons, reader review

I truly enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it. If you are looking for something meaningful, you'll certainly get a lot of true love, trust, relationships, friendship, childhood memories, and a lot more in this excellent book.

★★★★★ A fantastic nature adventure. The author has a great writing style that is easy to read and very enjoyable.

★★★★ A strong character driven novel

“… a snapshot into so many lives and somehow the author was able to create a believable story behind all this was spot on. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a deep character driven novel.”

★★★★ “The author did a wonderful job of pulling me in and caring about these people. This is the second book I have read of Rod Raglin. Both times I have been impressed with his work. I'm happy I came across this one.”

- Bryan Fagan, author of Dempsey’s Grill

99 PERCENT MINE by Sally Thorne
99 Percent Mine - Sally Thorne

Darcy and her twin brother Jamie have inherited their grandmother's house which they are to remodel and sell, dividing the proceeds of the sale. Jamie hires Tom, a childhood friend, to do the remodel. Darcy is there to make sure the remodel is what she wants. Tom has always carried a torch for Darcy as she has for him but neither will admit it. This has caused Darcy to travel the world, hooking up for one-night stands while Tom has been engaged for some years to the same woman. Will working together finally make them admit their need and love of each other?

I enjoyed this book. There was a lot of subtle humor in it especially on Darcy's part. Tom is strait-laced but she does get to him. They are a perfect couple. I like how they work together. It made me smile throughout the book watching them dance around each other. This was a fun read!

Audio Review: Tell Me You're Mine (The British Billionaires #1) by: J.S. Scott, Narrated by Rupert Channing, Elizabeth Powers
Tell Me You're Mine (The British Billionaires #1) - J.S. Scott

Tell Me You're Mine by J.S. Scott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sweet takes a saucy turn when hormones come out to play. Scott pushes boundaries, stirs up emotions and keeps the heart invested. Tell Me You're Mine gives the senses a reason to sing. With sexy accents and explosive chemistry, Channing and Powers entrance even the most skeptic of romantics. Scott let's life create the fantasy and irresistible becomes only a page turn away.

Always Mine (Roommate Duet: Liam and Madelyn, #1) by: Kennedy Fox
Always Mine (Roommate Duet: Liam and Madelyn, #1) - Kennedy Fox

Heart first and head first collide to create complicated. Always Mine pulls emotions into chaotic romance. With a not too distant past that didn't end well and a chance reunion that could lead to ultimate disaster, Fox sets hearts up for a humdinger of a ride. Liam is the boy that walked away. Madelyn is the girl he can't forget. When past regrets lead to a dangerous present, odds are more than their hearts are at stake. From heartbreaker to page turner, Always Mine doesn't hold back when it comes to bringing on the burn.

This Book of Mine - Sarah Stewart, David Small
This Book of Mine - Sarah Stewart

Outside it is sunny, but chill and windy with occasional strong gusts. The leaves are mostly gone now, so not so much for the cats to watch with close interest. But every gust causes the lightweight chairs on the porch to move a bit and that hollow sort of wooden noise makes them feel threatened and startled and they have to go see what that was, but there isn't anything.
On such a morning it is a lovely thing indeed to be tucked up in the sun with two blankets (the sofa fabric isn't a good texture) and a mug of coffee (very pale and very sweet) and as many of the cats as I can mediate between, and a stack of books. I had a Santa Raptor cookie for breakfast. This is Sunday morning goals.
And this book, This Book of Mine, is the literary embodiment of this contentment. Stewart and Small are always excellent, individually and together. And there's a charming Small-designed bookplate printed in on the flyleaf. I am a sucker for special endpapers.
So if you happen to be choosing a gift for a child, one who may not have their own books, or maybe doesn't have any yet, this would be a lovely idea. There are a diverse collection of readers portrayed, different ages, different settings, which is always a positive.

This is a library copy, but I have a couple of gift-drives to shop for, so yay, I found just the one to order in bulk. W00t! contentment multiplied by knocking out a little more shopping without having to leave my nest.
