Yearn
Common Goal - Rachel Reid

This is book #4, in The Game Changers series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader enjoyment and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Eric is a goalie who is on his last season. He has never had to deal with this before, and he is all out of sorts.  Now he can be who he needs to be, love who he wants to love.

Kyle tells himself he will find someone his own age and be happy.  Then he meets again the man that makes his heart pound, and all his plans fade away.  Can he stick to his guns on this one?  Or will a certain hockey player blow his plans out of the way?

This was a definite sexy book with a slow burn twist.  I loved how the characters seemed obvious to be together.  I also loved the humor, the sparks, and the sexy thrum of heat throughout the entire story.  Such amazing characters, with definite qualities that show they are both individuals and meant to be a couple.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

GAME CHANGER by Rachel Reid
Game Changer - Rachel Reid,Rachelle Goguen
Scott Hunter, closeted captain of the NHL New York Admirals, meets Kip at the local smoothie shop when Kip makes a lucky smoothie for Scott.  Attracted Scott goes back and they begin a secret affair.  It all comes to a head during the Stanley Cup playoffs.

I enjoyed this story.  I liked Kip.  He was funny and truthful.  I could understand Scott's hesitation and fear.  I liked Kip's family and friends who were supportive.  His dad was a shocker.  It was a fun book and I look forward to more in the series.

Game Changer
Game Changer - Rachel Reid,Rachelle Goguen

Game Changer is well-written and the characters are interesting. I was impressed that even the secondary characters are engaging and often witty and fun. Considering its length, I was surprised that the story is fairly low on angst. However, I finished this one with a middle of the road feeling. I didn't dislike it, but it didn't leave a big lasting impression either. With Scott being so closeted, I would've expected at least some angst about starting a relationship with Kip, but these guys go from zero to sixty really fast, which leaves a lot of lag time in the story with quite a lot of steamy time. Now, I've got nothing against steamy goodness, and these guys can't keep their hands off each other, but after so much, it becomes repetitive and starts to seem like so much filler. We do finally get some angst as Kip wants more from the relationship, but again, it's fairly low level and it's pretty obvious how it will all play out. It is primarily a feel-good read, but I felt like it needed to be tightened up some. A little less time between the sheets and a little more spent on relationship building could've made a big difference.
For me, this was an entertaining read for the most part, but there's really nothing to set it apart from any other book like it. It runs the standard formula of a closeted sports figure meeting Mr Out and Proud. There are no hiccups that we don't see coming, including the sweet and hopeful conclusion. All in all, it's a solid story and I'll be interested to see how this author's work grows with future books.

Patiently
Game Changer - Rachel Reid,Rachelle Goguen

Scott plays hockey and he loves it.  He hopes to do it for a long time.  He is also starting to see how lonely his life is.  It is time he does something about it.  Not lying about who he is might be a place to start.

Kip is a barista who is thrilled to meet someone as hunky as Scott.  Never thought he would see him again, the flirting seemed innocent.  When he starts coming to his shop often, he starts to think there may be more to these visits.

This was a sweet and sassy book about two people meant for one another.  The banter is right on, the pace was nice and steady, and the heat was off the charts!  I loved this book and had a hard time putting it down.  I give this story a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
