The Millennium Trilogy
The Millennium Trilogy - Stieg Larsson,Reg Keeland I can't remember who recommended these books to me but I really wish I did so I could thank them. Reading the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was my first foray into the thriller genre and I've never looked back. It's become a favorite of mine and these books are responsible for opening my eyes to so many other fantastic books. Loved the dynamic between Lisbeth and Blomkvist and I can easily say Lisbeth Salander is one of the most badass women in literature EVER. She made being intelligent seem cool. Really wish the author was still around today to see how greatly these books have touched people.

May Round Up
The Perks of Being a Wallflower - Stephen Chbosky
A Beautiful Dark - Jocelyn Davies
Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen
Hereafter - Tara Hudson
Arise - Tara Hudson
The Jane Austen Book Club - Karen Joy Fowler
Beautiful Creatures - Margaret Stohl,Kami Garcia
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium Trilogy, Book 2) (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard) - Stieg Larsson
Ashfall - Mike Mullin
Practical Magic - Alice Hoffman

So, you may recall that my goal for May was to read 20 books. I knew going in that there was no way that I was going to achieve it, but I made the goal anyway with the intention of at least doing my very best to get as close as possible. And, considering how much stuff I had going on this month, I am VERY proud of myself for reaching the halfway point with reading 10 books! And, looking over my May reading list post, it turns out that 10 was actually my bare minimum goal. So, while I may not have reached my impossible goal of 20, I did at least reach the more realistic one. Yay me!

Out of these books, I think that my favorite was probably Sense and Sensibility, with Hereafter coming close behind. My least favorite was most definitely Ashfall, since I didn't even finish that one. Overall, this was a pretty great book month - I read 10 books, only 2 of which earned less than 4 stars from me!

What was your favorite book this month? Have you ever read any of the books that I read in May?

The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Girl Who Played with Fire (Millennium Trilogy, Book 2) (Vintage Crime/Black Lizard) - Stieg Larsson

Lisbeth Salander is wanted for a triple murder. All three victims are connected to a trafficking exposé about to be published in Mikael Blomqvist’s magazine Millenium, and Lisbeth’s fingerprints are on the weapon.

Lisbeth vanishes to avoid capture by the justice. Mikael, not believing the police, is despairingly trying to clear her name, using all his resources and the staff of his magazine. During this process, Mikael discovers Lisbeth’s past, a terrible story of abuse and traumatizing experiences growing up in the Swedish care system.

When he eventually finds her, it’s only to discover that she is far more entangled in his initial investigation of the sex industry than he could ever imagine. (source)

My Friend is the best!
Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy Series Set: (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) (The Girl Who Played with Fire) (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest) (Millennium Trilogy) - Stieg Larsson

My friend KT just gave me all of her copies for this series. I am so grateful for an amazing friend like her. I am going to do something special for her. I am thinking of buying her the first two copies of the hardbacks and getting myself the last book in paperback. That way we would each have the full, matching set on our own.

Just....all.....the....feels....all of them. Right Now!

Day 16 - Favorite female character

I know most female readers do love kickass women, and these are some representations of such. But they’re complex kickass women. They have flaws and weaknesses and problems that don’t have easy answers. In other words, same rules as with the men: lots of character development.

Again the books from series feature my favorite moments in their storylines. Also, you can say whatever you want to say about Mockingjay, but Katniss was amazing in that book.

  • Jessie Burlingame (Gerald’s Game by Stephen King)
  • Lisbeth Salander (The Millennium Trilogy: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson)
  • Daenerys Targaryen (A Song of Ice and Fire: A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin)
  • Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins)
