Angel: Last Angel in Hell - Juliet Landau,Stephen Mooney,Franco Urru,Brian Lynch

*Book source ~ Library

From Goodreads: In possibly the craziest Angel volume yet, we find out what happened to Gunn, Drusilla, Angel, and Spike in the aftermath of the Fall, which includes comas, insane asylums, a comic con, and even Angel’s movie adaptation. With stories by fan-favorite writer Brian Lynch and a two-issue arc co-written by Drusilla herself, Juliet Landau, this collection shows you just how insane Angel’s world can get."

WTF did I just read? This has got to be the worst volume yet. I would give it a 1 if I hadn’t liked Drusilla’s story arc and the Comic-Con story. Those two are awesome! The rest can just suck it because Grrr Argh! The artwork is very nice though.

Angel: Aftermath - Kelley Armstrong,Stefano Martino,Dave Ross

From Goodreads:

Springing out of Joss Whedon's Angel: After the Fall story line, novelist Kelley Armstrong (The Summoning) comes aboard to explore the many repercussions following the explosive last issue of Angel: After the Fall. Artist Dave Ross also comes aboard to present the first arc of "Aftermath," wherein we learn who lived, who died, and who will be forever changed from the experience.

Originally published as Angel issues #18-22

First off, I hate the artwork. None of the characters are recognizable and half the time Angel looks like a Hulked-out vampire. Blerg. I like that Gwen, Kate and Connor are in this and I like the additions of Dez and Jamaerah. Not sure what’s up with the Elohim and the Potentates, but I’m looking forward to seeing where this is heading. As long as it’s drawn by someone else. Because I hate when characters are unrecognizable. It’s too frustrating.

It's massive! And weighs a ton. One day I will own it.
Angel: The End - Peter David

*Book source ~ Library

Final three volumes (7-9) in Angel:After the Fall: Immortality for Dummies (7), The Crown Prince Syndrome (8), and The Wolf, The Ram, and The Heart (9). Also includes eight short stories.

This beautifully illustrated final IDW volume is massive and weighs a ton. The story arcs are pretty decent and cohesive, but I have to state for the record that this time travel shit has to stop. It’s such a copout and I hate the stories that employ such a plot device. Blerg. Spike is, as always, my favorite character followed by Illyria. Love them. And I had to laugh at Spike’s prophecy storyline where he tells the out of work screenwriters to give Angel a poncy name like Dusk, Sunset or Fall of Darkness which I probably wouldn’t have caught if I hadn’t already read Season 8 of Buffy. Hilarious shit there! This is one volume I’d love to add to my personal library someday when I have, you know, money.

Angel: Immortality for Dummies ~ Interesting. I was wondering why someone hadn’t thought of that before now.

Angel: The Crown Prince Syndrome ~ Connor-centric storyline that’s kinda goofy, but not in a horrible way.

Angel: The Wolf, The Ram, and the Heart ~ Time travel, alternate universe and the artwork got comic-booky. No, just no.

Eddie Hope ~ Interesting character. I want to see more of him.

…Dust to Dust ~ Gunn and his sister’s back story.

OMG Unicorns! ~ I hate Harmony. Seriously.

All the Time in the World ~ Just rip my heart right out of my chest, why doncha?

My Only Friend ~ D’awwwwww.

Fight for the Remote! ~ Omg! The movie Gunn and Illyria bring home. Bwahahaha! I love this. I wish there were more funny short stories like this one.

This One Time ~ I really don’t like reality shifts either. But this isn’t a bad story though I wonder where that bitch went. And omg, more of Betta George please.

A Blessing and “The Curse” ~ Nice send off.

Spike: The Complete Series - Nicola Zanni

*Book source ~ Library

From Goodreads:

Spike is out on his own, away from Angel's watchful eye, and in charge of his own destiny. Old flames and new challenges arise as Spike faces a crazed killer, Wolfram & Hart, and the consequences of having a soul. This title collects the complete 8-issue series of "Spike" by Brian Lynch that connects the "After The Fall" storyline to the subsequent "Buffy: Season 8" series.

Now, I think I’ve made it pretty clear in the past that I love Spike. He is my absolute favorite Buffy/Angel character. But that doesn’t mean I’ll automatically love anything that comes out pertaining to my beloved fantasy vampire boyfriend. However, in this case, I do. It’s awesome! The storylines and the artwork are fantastic. Not perfect, mind you, but damn near. The only problem I had with it is Drusilla. She didn’t look like Drusilla at all, but at least she was in the story. I love that crazy bitch. Plus, there was Groo, the dragon and Willow. Yay! Since I’ve read the comics out of order I have no idea who Beck and Betta George are though I quite like them and will need to get up to speed on their place in the Buffyverse. Ok, I did read a bit about Betta George in Angel: After the Fall, but I still don’t know how he came into the Big Picture. No worries. I’ll get to all of the comics sooner or later. One day I’ll have them all in my personal collection. Until then thank goodness for the library! Especially mine since I suggested the purchase and they actually bought it. To my local Buffy/Angel friends: you’re welcome. To my library: you rock!

Another ok one
Angel: After the Fall, Volume 4 - Franco Urru,Brian Lynch,Joss Whedon

*Book source ~ Library

What the hell did I just read? There’s some hinky shit going on in this volume and I’m left scratching my head in bewilderment. I’m not as pleased with this installment as the others mostly because I was clueless as to what was going on. It’s the whole time slipping crap that gets me. I hate that shit. But there is some really awesome back and forth between Spike and Angel. Stuff like what made Angel Season 5 memorable for me as I was not a fan of the show in general before Spike came on to make Captain Boring’s life more amusing. For me anyway. The artwork is consistent with the previous works and is still gorgeous. My library doesn’t have Volume 5 or 6, so I’m not sure what I’m going to do about finishing this arc up. I guess I’ll suggest the purchase and cross my fingers.
