Excerpt:

I grab a towel off a waiting stack of them and toss it onto the edge. “You can sit and put your feet in.”

She’s wearing a short little knit dress that’s been making me crazy all evening, so it would be easy enough for her to strip off those stockings, sit on the towel, and drop both feet in.

And that’s what she does. She eases one stocking down over a smooth knee and tugs it off.

I don’t want to stand there staring like a middle-school boy. Okay, I do want to. But I don’t want to make her uncomfortable. So I go over to the sound system instead, and I set my phone on the speaker and cue up a really old playlist. One she’ll recognize.

When I turn around again, she’s seated on the towel, both legs hanging down into the churning water. “Ah. Wow.” She looks up at me, her eyes sparkling. “Nice place you got here.”

“Isn’t it?” I toe off my shoes and kick them to the side.

The first song comes on, and it’s a Macklemore tune that we used to play far too often in our first office. Rebecca laughs immediately. “You didn’t! I haven’t heard this playlist in forever. But I’ll bet I still know every transition. Lady Gaga is next.”

“She sure is.”

Rebecca kicks her feet, making a splash. “I have a little confession to make.”

“What’s that?” I loosen my tie and slide the knot out.

“Well…” She grins up at me. “I used to have a crush on you. Back in the early days.”

My hands freeze on the tie silk. “Get out of town. You did not.”

“No, I really did.” Her cheeks are pink. “That first year especially. But you were taken, and you were my boss. Those two things made it pretty easy to tamp down, when you’re a practical girl like me.”

I walk over and drop down beside her, my back to the water, though, because I’m still wearing trousers and socks. “So how does that work, exactly?”

“What?” She gives me a sidelong glance, but then looks away again and won’t meet my eyes.

“How do you stop wanting someone? I’m a practical person, but I don’t see how that makes it any easier. Nothing seems to mute the raging attraction I have for you.”

Her chin turns quickly toward me, and I seize the opportunity to kiss her. And it only takes one kiss—one slide of my lips over hers, and I’m on fire again.

We’re facing opposite directions, so it’s awkward as hell. But I don’t even care. I take greedy sip after greedy sip of her mouth, until she pulls back to stare at me. Her color is high and her eyes are bright and happy. “This is like Twister.”

“It’s better,” I correct. Lady Gaga comes on, just as Becca said she would. “Are we getting into this pool or what?”

Becca kicks a foot in the water. “I’m tempted. But I don’t have a bathing suit.”

“Oh, snap.”

She smiles and shakes her head. “Are you really getting in?”

“We don’t have to.” I’m never going to pressure her.

Her fingers trail across the surface of the bubbling water. “But this is an adventure, right?”

“Right.” I stand up and remove my socks. She’s watching me. And I can’t read her expression. “What?”

“Just wondering what else you’re going to take off.” She smiles.

“Come here.” The order rolls off my tongue.

But Rebecca doesn’t blink. She gets up and turns toward me, curiosity in her eyes.

“You tell me. What am I taking off?”

She puts two hands tentatively on my chest, and I make myself be patient. Everything I ever wanted is on the other side of this moment. I just need us to break through this awkwardness—the “will we or won’t we” tension.

Her fingers find the top button of my shirt. “I’m not getting in the water unless you are.”

That’s a compromise I can live with. I find my lower shirt buttons and work upwards, until we meet in the middle. She pushes the two halves of my shirt apart and runs a hand down my bare chest.

My inner caveman stands up and cheers.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book #4, in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and to fully understand this amazing series, I recommend reading in order.

Rebecca AKA "Becca" has family obligations that come before her own needs. All. The. Time. When is it time for her? She has an amazing job, great friends and co-workers, and she is just too busy to enjoy.

Nate is a busy man. He owns many successful businesses, including a hockey team. He has worked with Becca for many years. Now he feels an attraction he is ashamed to act on. What would she think?

This is a long awaited story. I was so excited to read this book, and could not contain my excitement! It was everything I wanted and more. I got more humor, heat, banter, sexy times, hot hockey players - there is something for everyone! I just really like these characters and was so glad they were meant to be.

#Audiobook Review: Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby
Man Hands - Blunder Woman Productions,Sarina Bowen,Erin Mallon,Tanya Eby,Luke Daniels

Brynn’s life sucks. Recently divorced, she left her husband and loveless marriage. The moment the papers where signed, she lost her job as a writing professor, where her former father-in-law was her boss. Stuck in a rut, her BFFs tell her she needs to go for a man that is the complete opposite of her normal type for a single night of fun. And after a couple drinks… she does.

Tom is working hard to keep a low profile after his very public break up six months ago. Star of his own home repair show, he’s working on renovating his place in Michigan while the network decides if he’ll get another season. However, he tosses his plans for a year of celibacy out the window when a beautiful stranger throws herself at him at a party. Now he can’t stop thinking about her, hoping for a repeat experience.

Man Hands is an absolute joy to experience! Not only is a sweet and sexy romance, but the humor is laugh-out-loud funny. Brynn and Tom are adorable together. Stemming from bad breakups, each has lost confidence in love and relationships. Yet in order to move forward, they must pretend to be in one - which isn’t a hardship for either since they are extremely attracted to one another. It also helps that both are genuinely good people who don’t want to hurt the other. And of course, they have friends pushing them together, which makes for some fun times. The supporting cast is equally as intriguing as the main couple, and I look forward to their stories with anticipation.

The authors do a fabulous job of breaking convention and typical romance conflicts with their storytelling. I admire and appreciate the direction they took the story as I listened to it. More than once I was thinking I knew what would happen next - how a character would react to a situation, but the authors pleasantly surprised me each time. What could have been typical is instead sublime!

The story is brought to life by the narrators. I enjoyed both tremendously. Ms. Mallon brings just the right amount of perkiness to Brynn. She is able to convey a wide range of emotions and alters her tone to make each character distinctive. And listening to Mr. Daniels in a romantic roll was such a delight. After tying him to Atticus and Oberon from the Iron Druid Chronicles (urban fantasy), hearing him as the romantic lead was awesome. Only a few times did I hear his UF characters in his performance. He nails the wit and humor of Tom’s character, but is also tender and endearing. My only issue with the narration, is that Ms. Mallon was best at 1.25x and Mr. Daniels at 1.5x. Normally I pick one and go with it, but the speed made a big difference in my enjoyment, so I had to keep switching the speed back and forth each time the narrator changed.

In the end, I loved listening to Man Hands; it will definitely be in my Top of 2018 list! The story is fun and sweet, and I simply loved Brynn and Tom. Both hurting, both kind, both nervous, they make the perfect couple, and the perfect story to read.

My Rating: A

Narration (both): A

If only
Man Card (Man Hands Book 2) - Sarina Bowen,Tanya Eby

This is book # 2, in the Man Hands series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel,.  For reader enjoyment, and understanding of the series, I recommend reading this fun series in order!

Ash is thoroughly disgusted for being attracted to the man who, is basically her nemesis at work.  Rivals competing for each sale dollar, but who cannot resist the physical attraction that seems to consume then whenever they are in the same room together.  If only she could keep her hands, and her lips off of him!

Braht and his scheming ways only seem to entice Ash closer - while at the same time give her a reason to pull away from him.  He really does want her in his arms and in his bed.  How to keep a woman who is so determined to stay away?

This was such a fun read.  Truly inspiring, by way of the funny schemes the characters come up with to one-up each other, as well as the banter.  There is plenty of hat in this one too, folks.  Each page nearly singes your fingers as you read the fiery way these two go at it with every turn.  I though it was a good addition to the Man Hands series.  I give this book a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
