Book Review of Giselda and the Dragon by J S Rumble
Giselda & The Dragon - J.S. Rumble

Giselda feels terribly guilty that she stole from the dragon on the mountain top. It's also worrying her that he might be holding a grudge against the schools because of what happened.

Unable to forget what she did she decides to travel up the mountain and face the dragon once more. It is safe to say the encounter has an unexpected outcome and Giselda is thrown into more exciting and terrifying adventures...but does she find what she is looking for?

Review 5*

This is the next book in the Giselda series of children's chapter books. I loved it!

Giselda is a wonderful character and I really liked her when I was introduced to her in the first book. She's an eight year-old girl who found out that she's a witch. Now a student at Wigmore School for Witches, she has already had one deadly adventure. However, she is beset with guilt for her part in stealing hair off of a dragon. Determined to right a wrong, she must find the courage to face the dragon once more.

This book is a sweet children's book with an exciting adventure included. It is ideal for children with short attention spans.

The school is not your typical witch/wizard school, nor is it like Hogwarts. Wigmore teaches their students to be bad (not evil) and play tricks on others. The story continues from the end of the first book, Giselda The Witch. I love meeting Tom again. He is a young wizard who befriends Giselda through the fence that separates the two sections (girls and boys are taught separately). This time, the two set off on an adventure that introduces new characters. I was terrified of the dragon when the children faced him in the first book, but in this one we get to know him a little better. His name is Colin and he's not scary at all. We are also introduced to his friend Gerald, another dragon, as well as a mysterious mythological species called Pangles, who look like large black cats with wings.

This book takes the reader on a magical adventure that sees the two children and Colin looking for a magical mirror that had been stolen from Colin over fifty years previously. There are several challenges that they face throughout the story, with lots of magic and spells, and the action and adventure kept me sitting on the edge of my seat. I think I've lot my heart to the baby Pangle though. Where can I get one?? The story ends satisfactorily, but eludes to further adventures to come and I can't wait!

J.S. Rumble has written an entertaining chapter book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I love her writing style, which is not particularly fast paced though easy enough for children to follow whether reading on their own, or being read to by their parents. The flow is wonderful too. I would definitely consider reading more of her books in the future.

I highly recommend this chapter book to young children aged 4-10, and to adults looking for a chapter book to keep their little ones entertained. - Lynn Worton

Renegade Atlas: Renegade Star Series Book 2
Renegade Atlas - JN Chaney

Do you guys remember the show Knight Rider and the AI, Kitt, that was installed his car? Well the main character in this series, Jace Hughes, has an AI in his spaceship named Sigmund aka Siggy and he's so cool! He's like the star of the series.

I have some good memories of watching Knight Rider and Indiana Jones and this series is like a cross between the two but set in space, so I'm enjoying it tremendously. But if you're not a fan of over the top, outrageous action scenes then you might want to find something else because this is pure entertainment. You really have to be willing to believe the unbelievable as they say.

I listened to the Publishers Pack audio version and the audio performance made the story come to life even more. There's no audio for books 3, 4 and 5 though which completely sucks especially after hearing and loving the narration in this book.

New Release Review – The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh by Carolyn Arnold @Carolyn_Arnold
The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh - Carolyn Arnold

The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh

Amazon  /  Goodreads

MY REVIEW

It seems books with an Egypt locale have been dropping into my reading list and The Secret of the Lost Pharaoh by Carolyn Arnold is the latest one. I feel I am right there with Alex as she begins her descent…

Secrets surround the Lost Pharaoh’s tomb and she is determined to protect it.

What she found was so much more than she expected and she felt that Matthew Connor, her Indiana Jones, would be the perfect person to have at her side.

Matthew hops on a plane out of Alaska, swings by Toronto, Canada, to pick up his posse, and it’s off to Egypt and another treasure hunting adventure.

I am glad to be back with Matthew, Robyn, who works as the curator at the Royal Ontario Museum, and Cal who is a world class photographer.

We will have some sexual tension and a bit of goo goo eye romance. I’m not sure what’s what and I don’t think they do either, so it should be interesting. Matthew is a bit of a dufus. Can’t see what’s right in front of him. Oh well, I think we will have plenty of time, even if it’s in future books, for him to wake up.

Underground…oh man…I can handle larger spaces for a short period of time with easy exits, but being lowered into a welllike hole, a cavein, rolling down the river with tons of earth your sky, entombed snakes (yep, we have to have snakes)…They are hanging on, tamping down their fear. Could I? NOPE!!!!

When they went to the airport, I thought, hmmm…something has got to happen…and it did.

The twists and turns, action and adventure, mystery and suspense, kept me on my toes. I thought this would happen, then it didn’t. I thought that would happen, then it didn’t. Carolyn Arnold does a good job of leading me down a familiar path, then jerking the rug out from under me. Think it’s over, oh no, not by a long shot.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of City of Gold by Carolyn Arnold.

Animated Animals. Pictures, Images and Photos 4 Stars

Release Day Review! Fearless Mating (A.F.L.A. #4) by Milly Taiden!
Fearless Mating - Milly Taiden

Their jobs have set them at odds, but the attraction brewing between them is too strong to resist in this all-new paranormal romance from the author of Dangerous Mating.

Sergeant Major Candace Obermier has arrived at Alpha League Federal Agency headquarters with one task in mind--shutting it down. While A.L.F.A.'s pledge to protect humans from paranormal threats is noble, they've caused nothing but mayhem as far as Candy can tell. And their director? He's the worst of the lot.

Director Josh Tumbel has finally found his mate. And she's doing everything she can to shut down operations, while he struggles to control his mating instincts. But when A.L.F.A. headquarters is taken in a hostage situation, Josh has a chance to demonstrate the critical nature of the agency's existence, and prove his worth to Candy as a protector and lover.

Fearless Mating is another exciting A.L.F.A. read that gets the adrenaline pumping and the heart pounding.  Josh and Candace have strong chemistry that grabs reader’s attention and keeps them entertained throughout the story. These strong, compelling characters’ relationship starts off on the negative side of any kind of get to know each other measurement which really makes things interesting since Josh immediately recognizes Candace as his mate, and from this rocky relationship just keeps getting more interesting and the steamier.

This fast paced plot if full of adrenaline pumping action and thrills that keep readers on the edge of their seats and wondering what will happen next as the bad guys keep the characters as well as the reader guessing just what they are really up to and there are some exhilarating danger filled moments that add to the thrills and excitement.

Once again, Milly Taiden’s shifter law enforcement world kept me glued to the pages and once again the A.L.F.A. team has another sensational event where they need to put their skills to the test but this one is even spicier because Josh has met his match and she just may be tougher than he is. I can’t wait to see what Milly Taiden has in store for us next.

Renegade Star: Renegade Star Series Book 1
Renegade Star - JN Chaney

I've read some of Chaney's other books and really enjoyed them but I'll be honest I've been hesitant to read this series because of the awful covers. I know, I know, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I think subconsciously I still do it. Anyways, I was in the mood for a light story last night so I said what the hell, lets go for it and it actually ended up being the perfect book. It was so much fun! It seriously reminded me of an Indiana Jones movie set in space with it's similar group of scholarly characters following a map, silly banter and the same non-stop, stay one-step ahead of your pursuers, action.

The main character, Jace, is a Renegade which is basically a thief that takes odd jobs stealing and transporting things for money. Jobs have been few and far between lately and he's in desperate need of quick cash to pay back the money he borrowed from a loan shark to buy a cloaking device for his ship. So against his better judgment, he takes on a job transporting a "nun," Sister Abigail, and her suspicious crate of supposed medical supplies. When he starts hearing sounds coming from the crate, he learns what it really contains and that the Union military and every Ravager in the system is hunting Abigail and her package. With no option to return home now, he decides to go all in with Abigail and her group, joining them on their ultimate quest to find the long lost planet Earth.

If you're an Indiana Jones fan or really liked Revenger by Alistair Reynolds, I think you would enjoy this. It has the best of both worlds.
