CHRISTMAS WISHES by Joann Baker and Patricia Mason
Christmas Wishes (BBW Holiday Romance) - Joann Baker,Patricia Mason

Susie has had a crush on her boss for the year she has worked for the company. Her best friend, Mark, comes over after work but she is off hand with him, and he leaves her apartment. The next day her boss tells her she is going to a charity function with him, so she asks Mark's advice for an outfit. Since he does not answer her calls all weekend, she buys lunch and goes to his worksite. Will he be happy? Will Susie be happy? Who will she choose--her boss or her best friend?

This story was so short that everything happens so fast. I never had a sense of the characters. I had no idea of who she should be with. I assume she made the right choice, but this was a vignette where I knew what was happening but not what emotions were being felt. I would like to see this expanded and more character and plot development.

Temper
Wild Fire - A.K. MacBride

This is book # 3 in the Breathing Hearts series.  This book can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader enjoyment and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Frankie is just baking as usual when she feels tired and woozy.  Next thing she knows she is face to face with a blast from the past she did not want to see.  Rescuing her was nice, but coming back for more is just wrong.

Gage wants to move on from the past.  He comes back to his hometown with his daughter to start over.  Seeing Frankie puts him on alert.  Seeing her all the time gets his heart racing.  Can they get along long enough to work things out?

This story moved at such a quick pace.  The characters are strong with the heated backstory that sets the book on sizzle right from chapter one.  Sexy and smart, this was an enjoyable and relaxing read.  I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Longbourn ★★★★☆
Longbourn - Jo Baker

This was a terrific first-half read. The back half lost some steam and I lost some of my buy-in to plot and characters. What was a fascinating look at what life might have been like for the servants propping up the various featured characters and households in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice became a meandering and increasingly unlikely story.

Still an enjoyable read and the first 2/3 of it was absolutely worthwhile. Certainly better than any other Jane Austen fan-fic type stories I've picked up.

Audiobook, borrowed from my public library via Overdrive. Excellent performance by Emma Fielding.

Loved You Once (The Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers #1) by: Claudia Burgoa
Loved You Once (The Baker’s Creek Billionaire Brothers #1) - Claudia Burgoa

Another sad love song finds the heart to be happy. Loved You Once is a tale of battered emotions, bruised egos and finding the courage to fight heartache back from the brink of despair. Hayes and Blair are one regret short of a happy ending. Will they have the courage to turn what if, into forever after romance? Burgoa dares to be vulnerable. Blair and Hayes are perfectly, flawed. Haunted by the past. Fearful of the future and hopeful in the present. Burgoa and her characters are a beautiful kind of mess that speaks to the deepest recesses of a heart and inspires it to take a chance on love.

Ready
Last Slice of Pie (Starving for Southern) - Kathryn Andrews

This is book #2, in the Starving For Southern series.  This story can be read as a standalone novel.  For reader enjoyment, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this great series in order.

Lexi is making her way as a small business owner in her small town.  She is gaining notoriety for the pies, even though she has always been known for them locally.  She has been in love with Bryan all her life, but he does not seem to know she exists anymore.  He has not been home in a decade.

Bryan is trying to outrun a past filled with pain and heartache.  The best way to do that is to stay away.  Football is the one thing he does right, and he does well.  It has made him well known and feel as if he is deserving of Lexi.  The questions is if he does something about it how will she respond?

This was such an amazing story! Filled with a slow burn, it was like a match lit early on and then somewhere along the way caused the heat to just explode!  I loved reading about these characters and their journey.  Both very rich and compelling characters as people, watching from my view felt like a privilege.  Their book was honestly really good and I could not put this one down.  I give this read a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!
