The Witch House of Persimmon Point by Suzanne Palmieri
The Witch House of Persimmon Point: A Novel - Suzanne Palmieri An interesting story. It jumps around in time a lot, so be prepared for just a tad bit of whiplash at times. There were a few jumps that really threw me and I had to go track back until I knew when I was again. The story follows a family of special women - witches, for lack of a better word - and the house that holds them. The story is just as much about the house as it is about the people. A house that was witness to many tragedies and holds on to the women it likes. There are several generations of women, and we learn about their history through diaries and tales told by their ghosts. Most of these stories do not have what most would consider a happy ending, but somehow they are all satisfying. An interesting and engaging look into the history of an incredibly interesting family. I want to know them better and learn more about what happens next.

Beauty and the Highland Beast by Lecia Cornwall
Beauty and the Highland Beast: A Highland Fairy Tale - Lecia Cornwall

So much fun! This was such a great, light-hearted, historical romance with just a enough of a hit of classic fairy tale. Dair is a wonder beast - haunted by tragedies in his past that he blames on himself, he haunts Carraig Brigh with his nightmares and terrors. When it is foretold that only a virgin can save him, everyone loses hope (apparently there aren't many in the area). But when Dair's father visits the lands of the Fearsome McLeods, he finds a couple that just might work.

Fia was a breath of fresh air. She was a helper and a healer. Satisfied with her place in life and the knowledge that she would be there for the rest of her days - until Dair. Once she meets Dair her dreams change, and she finds that her presence and voice offer a comfort to him that none have been able to provide. She may really be able to magically vanquish his crazed side.

But there are rumors of a witch, and Fia will find herself caught up in the superstition. Her life will be at risk, and along with it, the very sanity that allows Dair to be laird of the land. A great mix of suspense and daring, love, and a bit of fairy tale magic (but no actual magic) brings this story together in a way that I just loved.

London Belongs to me by Jacquelyn Middleton
London Belongs To Me - Ms. Jacquelyn Middleton
This was a really fun story. I was drawn into Alex's world from page one, when she lands in London and all her perfectly laid plans fall apart one after another. Her luggage is lost, her ride can't pick her up, and her room is more of a closet. But that's just the tip of the iceberg, things quickly get even worse as she struggles to find her place in the world of the London theater. From plagiarism, to theft, to just people being really crappy.

There is a bright side. She re-connects with an internet buddy in person,a and they open a new world of people of places to here. They show her a new attitude and that lifelong friends are possible. Alex faces a lot during her first year in London, and she doesn't always handle it well. Those are the times I loved her the most, when she was down and out and making the worst decisions possible. We've all been there and it only encouraged me to cheer harder.

There is a great ending. Mean people get what they deserve and the good people find happiness. I loved the characters - they were so believable and likable that I wish I think I'll need to go visit them again sometime soon.

My Guardian Gryphon by Krystal Shannan
My Guardian Gryphon (Sanctuary, Texas Book 5) - Krystal Shannan

This was a very intense edition to the Sanctuary, Texas series. I learned a lot about the House of Lamidae, not all of it very good. There are a few people that I look at quite differently after seeing a more 'anything for the greater good' side to them, willing to sacrifice the feelings of one in a grand attempt to move closer to their goals.

Gretchen was a bit of an enigma. She was different than the rest of the House of Lamidae, and it made her intriguing and a little frustrating at the same time. She wants to break the mold and be something different that the rest of her sisters. She wants to find love. But her search causes all sorts of problems.

This is a bit of a dark story. Not everything ends up ice cream and roses. I lost faith in some characters, and I just completely lost others. I will warn you that the ending isn't as hopeful as ones in the previous books. But the tenacity and determination of the citizens of Sanctuary really shine through.
