EXCERPT:

His hand caught her, long fingers wrapping around her elbow and causing all sorts of unwelcome sensations as he pulled her back around.

                “What?” she asked.

                “Waiting for my apology.”

“Sure,” she said agreeably. “When hell freezes over.” She lifted her chin, grateful for her four-inch heels so that she could almost, kind of, not quite look him in the eyes. “I’m in charge of this building, Archer, which means I’m in charge of everything that happens in it. I’m also in charge of everyone who works for this building.”

He cocked his head, looking amused again. “You want to be the boss of me, Elle?” he asked softly.

I am the boss of you.”

Now he outright smiled and her breath caught. Damn, stupid, sexy smile. And then there was The Body. Yes, she thought of it in capital letters, it deserved the respect. “If you don’t want to be walking funny tomorrow,” she said, “you’ll stop invading my personal-space bubble.”

Complete bravado and they both knew it. She’d only been at this job for a year and it’d come as a surprise to her that he’d been in the building at all. An unfortunate coincidence. Before that it’d been years since they’d had any contact, but she still knew enough to get that no one got the better of him.

He was quick, light on his feet, and physically strong. But that wasn’t what made him so dangerous to her. No, it was his sharp intelligence, his quick wit, how he was willing to go as dark as he needed to in order to do what he thought was right.

And then there was the biggie—the way he had of making her feel shockingly alive.

He did as she asked and stepped back but not before pausing to make sure they both knew who was in control here, and it most definitely wasn’t her.

No one did intimidation like Archer, and in his line of work he could be in a coma and still intimidate everyone in the room. He had muscles on top of muscles but didn’t look beefed up like a body builder might. Instead his body seemed lean and seriously badass, with caramel skin that strayed from light to golden to mocha latte depending on what the season was, giving him a look of indeterminable origin.

                And sexiness.

It worked for him, allowing him to fit in to just about any situation. Handy on the job, she imagined. But with her he was careful. Distant. And yet she’d seen the way he sometimes looked at her, and on the rare occasion when he’d touched her, like when he guided her through a door with his hand low on her back, he let himself linger. There was always a shocking and baffling yearning beyond both the glances and the touches.

That, or it was all just wishful thinking.

Not that it mattered since he still held back with her. The problem was she yearned too. Yearned for him to see her as a woman, strong and capable enough to stand at his side.

But after what they’d been through, she knew that would never happen. She turned away, annoyed by how her entire body had gone on high alert as always, every inch of her seeming to hum beneath the surface.

She should have just emailed him.

Accidentally on Purpose (Heartbreaker Bay, #3)Accidentally on Purpose by Jill Shalvis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book #3, in the Heartbreaker Bay series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and enjoyment, I recommend reading this great series in order.

Elle & Archer already have a pain filled past, before the fact they work together. If she avoids him, well who can blame a girl? Hardest part about all of it is she wants to see him everyday.

Archer just wants Elle to stay put and let him protect her for once. Can he talk her into letting him wear the pants in this relationship? He just really wants to hold her for like ever.

If you have never had the feels before, this book has brought it - Game On! I loved how the author takes you through their relationship and churns out a love story that is practically epic. So endearing, and the man is completely charming. These characters just make you feel it all.

***This ARC copy was given in exchange for an honest review only.

Sale Blitz for Invincible by Alana Albertson

Invincible

by Alana Albertson The Trident Code #1 Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romantic Suspense
Purchase: Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks

I’ll be honest with you—I’m no hero. Sure, the media tries to brand every Navy SEAL as some kind of Batman dressed in cammies. There’s even a line in one of our cadences: Superman is the man of steel, he ain’t no match for Navy SEAL. You’ve seen the movies—we’re infallible, invaluable, invincible. But that night, the one you read about in the papers … all I really wanted to do was get laid. One harmless fuck with an Aruban whore, no strings attached. I picked her out of a lineup—wild, dark hair, long legs and a crooked smile. After she sucked me off, I relaxed back onto the creaky, cum-stained cot, thankful for the blissful moments she gave me when I actually forgot for a second the faces of my buddies who died because I made the wrong call, the tears of the children I couldn’t save, and the eyes of the enemies I slaughtered during their last seconds of life. But before I left, her hazel eyes peered into my soul. She whispered in a distinct Californian accent, “My name is Annie Hamilton. I’m an American citizen. I was kidnapped on spring break five years ago. You’re my last hope. Please save me.” One desperate plea. This wasn’t a Hollywood blockbuster or a New York Times best-selling thriller. I knew this time there was no room for excuses, no margin for errors. I had one chance to put on the cape and be her hero.

Excerpt

Lathan laid Honey in his bed. Her body was dead weight and awkward, so he adjusted her arms, her legs, her head as if she were a life-sized ragdoll, until she looked comfortable. He tore off his gloves, pressed his fingers to her neck, and concentrated on finding her pulse. The steady pressure of her heartbeat tapped against his fingertips in a Morse code rhythm all its own. He laid his other hand on her chest, just below her clavicles, to ensure the rise and fall of her breathing. He tried not to notice how close his hand was to her breasts. Failed. The side of his hand rested next to the gentle slope of her breast. If he fanned out his pinkie finger—no. He pulled his hand away. She must’ve just passed out. He went into the bathroom, soaped up half the stack of clean washcloths and washed the lingering scent of decay from her hand. Her skin was rough and red, her fingers knobby and strong, her nails ragged and short. She had the body and clothing of a stripper, but he expected something more faux sexy than torn up fingernails and blistered feet. What kind of job abused her hands and her feet? Nothing seemed to fit. He had questions and not one answer. What was her name? Why didn’t he get SMs from her? Why was he able to touch her? Where the fuck did she get a human eyeball? He stared at her face as if the answers were written in the delicate arch of her brows, or in the gentle curve of her lashes. Or in the small sickle shaped scar at the corner of her mouth that curved upwards giving her the curious appearance of smiling out of one side of her mouth, while the other side frowned. Her eyelids fluttered. Opened. “How are you feeling?” That question was more appropriate than interrogating her on how she came into possession of a human eyeball. He’d wait until she was fully conscious before tripping down that trail. “Cold. So cold.” Goose bumps pimpled over her bare skin. She scooted toward where he sat on the edge of the bed, wrapping herself around his hips, seeking his body’s warmth. He should get the heavy sleeping bag from the closet. He should cover her with it and leave the room. He should, he should, he should. He didn’t. He pulled off his boots, eased into the bed—she latched onto him before he fully reclined. She molded herself to him. His shoulder her pillow, her arm around his middle, one of her legs draped over his thighs, her knee just a few miniscule inches from his groin. Everything vanished, except the vivid sensation of her feminine curves burrowing into him, seeking his safety, his comfort, his warmth. She was cool where he was on fire. She was soft where he couldn’t bend. She was sweet where he felt bitter. She fit into his arms, against his body, and into his soul, like she was designed especially for him. He wanted to believe he could have a happy ending with her, but his reality was a cruel hard place where good things just didn’t happen. Or if they did, they never lasted.

Seven Things About Abbie Roads

IMG_2582
  1.  She loves Snicker Parfaits. Gotta start with what’s most important, right?
  2. She writes dark emotional books featuring damaged characters, but always gives her hero and heroine a happy ending… after torturing them for three hundred pages.
  3. By day she’s a mental health counselor known for her blunt, honest style of therapy. At night she burns up the keyboard. Well… Burn might be too strong a word. She at least sits with her hands poised over the keyboard, waiting for inspiration to strike. And when it does—the keyboard might get a little warm.
  4.  She can’t stand it when people drive slowly in the passing lane. Just saying. That’s major annoying. Right?
  5.  She loves taking pictures of things she thinks are pretty.
  6.  She’s represented by Michelle Grajkowski of 3 Seas Literary.
  7.  Her first book RACE THE DARKNESS was a Publishers Weekly Top 10 Pick for Fall.

What I would lose would unknowingly become my fight for survival. An escape from the clutches of evil seemed almost an impossible task. Warring with Mexico’s leading cartel would only see me closer to my grave. Or worse, used as a bargaining chip to seal a sickening deal my brother had played a part in. To hunt or to be hunted? When you escape Mexico’s leading cartel, expect retribution. When you escape from Juan Florez, a man who lives for the thrill of the chase, expect to run from the shadows that follow your every move. I was “his”. He craved and demanded my fear. He destroyed me in every way he enjoyed. It was power. Seduction. I could run. I could hide. But for how long? He had one objective and that was to reclaim his prize, even if it meant putting to rest the one man who stood in his way. Aiden. His brother. When yesterday I had nothing to lose and today I have everything to keep, can I trust the very man whose family of monsters is now chasing me?

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

Monsters…. They are real. They watch you from their safe place, taunting, knowing. They breathe down your neck and chase you in your dreams. You wake, but they are still there. Saving everyone was impossible. The destruction, heartbreaking. One man was to blame. Anna knew he was there. His eyes following her every move, his presence beckoning a fate she needed to escape. This was a war where good never stood a chance. Danny knew he was a target, trapped in a place that would bring him to his knees, survival holding no promises. How do you win a battle that was lost from the very beginning? Monsters… They will destroy you.

●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●

He smiles. Winks. Eyes glistening an evilness known to no other. And then… I lose everything. It takes a heartbeat. A silent promise. A guarantee that it’s all only just the beginning. Everyone has a story. Mine is one I don’t want to remember. Deceived by those closest to me, I was thrown deep into a world of violence, corruption and trafficking. The dark, sinister world belonging to one Hector Florez, Mexico’s leading cartel boss. What he wants is control. What I crave is freedom. They say everyone has an angel watching over them, protecting. Me? I had my very own demon.

Lover of dark, fast-paced stories with a dash of romance, Melissa Jane’s books are a ruthless combination of dangerous cartel Kingpins and beautiful strong heroines. No one is safe within the pages she writes and the underdog is always favored to win… most times.
When not writing, Melissa loves relaxing with her family and a good glass of wine.

Sale Blitz: The Enclave Series by Jessica Lee ~ Giveaway

The Enclave Series

by Jessica Lee
The Enclave #1-4
Genres: Adult, Paranormal Romance, Vampires, Series

FREE for a Limited Time!

Amazon – B&N – Kobo – iBooks

SYNOPSIS:

Over 300 years ago, an ancient female vampire turned Kenric St. James against his will and killed the woman he loved. Now, Kenric has found a woman he finally burns to claim as his own again, but he knows loving her means giving his sire another target.

Emily Ross just wanted a fresh start. She’s a survivor, coming off the tail end of an abusive relationship, and craves time alone to learn who she is. The last thing she needs is a controlling alpha male calling all the shots.

Meeting Kenric might just have changed her mind, though. He is wrong for her in all the right ways. But in order to keep her heart from breaking, he first has to keep the hordes of evil vamps from stealing her very breath.

goodreads-badge-add-38px

What was she doing to him? “Kenric!” Emily cried again. She had to get him awake. Had to get him away from her. The look on his face. The strain in his body. Marguerite was torturing him, and the sight of it was like a knife through Emily’s heart. She bent over and clasped his cheeks, forcing his face in her direction. “Kenric, it’s Emily.” His eyes were glazed, pupils dilated, staring at some point beyond her. “You have to hear me. Come back to me.” Her voice choked. “She’s not here. Marguerite is in your head.”

Emily gritted her teeth then cried out, “Let him go!” She had no idea if the woman could even hear her, but she had to try.

She shuffled closer, placing them face to face. “Kenric!” His fangs were extended, touching his bottom lip.

The sight of the sharp points should have freaked her out, but at that point, all she could see was the man. A man in pain. The man who had placed her life before his own.

“Emily?” he mumbled, and his brow wrinkled.

Her heart raced. “Yes, yes. It’s me.” She ran her fingers through his hair. “Look at me. Focus on me.”

“Get out of here!” He shook his head as if trying to break her hold and back away.

“Kenric,” Emily said, her tone dropping to an, I’m-a-woman-who-won’t-be-moved level. “Focus on me. Get her out of your head.”

His eyelids slammed shut, then he blinked, and his gaze bore into hers. Seeing her for the first time. “I said get out of here,” he growled. “I can’t…I can’t promise you I’m in control.” He sucked in a deep breath. “Leave me.” His attention shifted to something in the distance. “Need you,” he began, the words fighting for birth from his throat. “Need you safe.”

“Oh, hell no!” Like she could live with herself if she walked out that door. The very thought had her gasping for air. His head slipped from her grasp, and his eyelids _ uttered. His eyes rolled back in their sockets. The bed jerked and his body stiffened. “Kenric?” Emily lunged forward, nearly on top of him.

“Kenric,” she shouted and grabbed his head, rocking his face forward. “Don’t you die on me,” she uttered, her voice fierce. “You put me in the middle of this, and I need you to stay with me. You hear me?” she asked, her lips next to his. “Come back to me.”

Emily pressed her mouth against his, willing him back to reality. To her. There was a lot about Kenric that scared the hell out of her, but she realized suddenly that the thought of him not being in her life frightened her even more.

At first there was no response. Only her lips moving across his. She choked on a sob, then poured herself back into action. He jerked, and then his palms were on her upper arms, air filling his lungs. Kenric pushed her back.

“What are you doing?” His eyes narrowed, the pupils no longer human, obscuring almost all the white. “You have to get away from me.”

Emily shook her head. “I’m not leaving you like this. She’s trying to kill you.” She reached out and gripped his face. “Because of me,” she whispered.

“You don’t understand…,” he began, his voice hoarse, as if he’d emerged from a long desert journey.

“I understand you need me. That’s all I need to know.”

SYNOPSIS:

Arran MacLain is a vampire on a suicide mission, driven to kill his former partner who betrayed him and the Enclave they served. But two things stand in his way: Gabrielle, the human female who holds his heart, and the past that won’t let him go. If only death was enough to cleanse his soul.

Gabrielle Steven’s sister is missing. Her hunt for clues brings her face to face with the one vampire she can’t forget. Their missions combine and thrust them into the heart of evil. Will their passion be enough to overcome the pain from their past, or will their dark desires destroy them both?

goodreads-badge-add-38px

Elle flipped up the image of her sister. “You ever see her around here?” The bartender’s eyebrows shot up, followed by his eyes, which went up and over the photo and straight into her face.

“Why you want to know? You a cop or something?”

“She’s my sister. And no, I’m not a cop—or something.” Elle wiggled the photo. “Have you seen her?”

He shrugged. “Lady, I just serve ‘em the booze. I don’t babysit. Couldn’t tell you if I saw her or not.” He grabbed a bar cloth and mopped up the wet rings off the bar. “So are you drinking or wasting my time?”

Yeah. She was drinking. “I’ll have a Bud Light.” He nodded, headed toward the cooler, and she slipped the photo back in her purse. Strike two. At this rate, she’d end up with a serious case of whiplash.

Two pasty-white girls, dripping in chains and draped in black, crowded next to her in the spot tattoo man had vacated. They ordered beers, then in loud, overly excited voices started gushing about a hot guy who’d just sat down at the bar a few seats away. Each wanted to be the first to get a bite of him.

Curiosity had her glancing over to check out their version of a “hottie.” Her chest constricted, forcing her next breath to fight its way into her lungs. There was no mistaking that face, even though his hair was longer, below his shoulders, and the former deceptive halo of blond hair had been slashed with thick lines of black. It looked as though he’d dipped his hands in dye and raked them through his hair in an I-don’t-give-a-shit manner. Crazy. But striking.

And she’d have known him anywhere.

Arran MacLain.

He tipped his beer up to his lips for a swallow, drawing her attention to the dark shadow of hair along his jaw. He’d tied his hair back, and a large black-and-platinum cross swayed at his earlobe. She shook her head and squirmed in her seat. Damn, he looked even sexier than… Her mind raced back to the Enclave’s former headquarters and the last moment they’d shared together on the staircase. She strummed her nails against the glass bottle in her hand.

Forgettable.

Yeah, that was the word he’d used to describe their kiss. She had the sudden urge to march over there and bash her beer bottle over his head. Instead, she tossed back a gulp of the cold, bitter liquid.

Above her head, chilled air blew from the vent in the ceiling, a welcome temporary relief from the overheated bodies steaming up the crowded floor space. A lock of hair from her wig blew across her face. She brushed it back, making room for another sip of her beer, her eyes never leaving Arran’s face.

He went for his bottle again and lifted it to his mouth, but his arm stilled before the beer met his lips. She knew the moment he sensed her presence. His nostrils flared, and his beer made a slow descent back to the counter. Her heart hammered against her chest, and a shudder raced across her body. Another round of Nine Inch Nails’ haunting cry for help filled the room. Perfect timing. She had a feeling that in a few seconds, she was going to need it.
