quote 2017-01-28 07:35
"Who controls the past," ran the Party slogan, "controls the future: who controls the present controls the present." And yet the past, though of its nature alterable, never had been altered. Whatever was true now was true from everlasting to everlasting. It was quite simple. All that was needed was an unending series of victories over your own memory.
1984 - George Orwell,Erich Fromm

Scary how fiction can sometimes apply to current events, isn't it? With all of the "alternative facts" stuff going through the media, social media included, right now, this quote stuck out to me as being unbelievably relevant. Those in control of the government in the book are seeking to control what is perceived as true through careful control of the past, the present, and the future.

Yes, for the record, I am reading this because many are reading this. I am also reading it because I haven't before and always meant to do so. I think it's an important book, and now is probably a pretty critical time to read and understand anything involving mass control over what we, the general public and perceived plebeians, understand to be true.

Reading is very, very important, whether you want to admit it or not. It allows for the challenging of one's thoughts and opinions, opens the mind up to different ideas, and feeds the brain to keep it from falling into complacency and disuse. Empathy grows with the reading of fiction, as does how we understand the world. Politics have always and will always play a significant role in fiction.

Read as much as you can.

The Barbed Crown: An Ethan Gage Adventure (Ethan Gage Adventures) - William Dietrich
Sinful Folk - Nikki McClure,Ned Hayes
'Sinful Folk' is a beautiful and bleak tale - a murder mystery and a journey of personal revelation - of English commoners making an unimaginable journey of two hundred miles to seek justice and answers. Ned Hayes takes the reader on a time machine trip to the harsh and hopeful life that ordinary people really lived.

Great endorsement in email today for my novel Sinful Folk by New York Times best-selling historical author of the Ethan Gage series -- William Dietrich

"He doesn't blush, and his eyes don't dart away. Instead I find myself staring into a pair of oceans -one perfect, the other blemished by that tiny ripple."
Legend - Marie Lu

Now that I was finally able to read it, I wonder why all the other times never quite worked out. Every time I have thought about buying this book it seems that something else magically caught my eye on the way to the check-out counter or the other time I borrowed it from the library I ended up reading another book instead.  Don’t push this book aside people!!  Marie Lu got the idea of the whole officer of the law chasing after the ‘criminal’ with an almost obsessed one track mind approach from Les Miserables and it was so easy to see her muse while the story itself stays original as well.

I'm new to BookLikes and absolutely love it so far. My favorite books to read are in the Fantasy Genre. I will try to update as frequently as possible what current books I am reading or have just finished and what I think about them.

I just read a new book I bought on amazon called Ovid's Valley by Eric Patrick Clayton and thought I'd share with everyone that I highly recommend it. It's an adult contemporary fantasy novel, written very well with a lot of fantastical elements and great characterization. The main character Aaron, is depicted with great detail. As I was reading, I felt as though I was experiencing what the characters were experiencing. It was one of those reads where I couldn't put the book down. It appears as if it is the first in the series, therefore, I can't wait for book two to come out! You guys should definitely check it out!
